Joe Gomez is standing and on the side of the pitch. He should be able to get through to half time when Liverpool will assess him.

This shows the difference between City and even Liverpool. This team looks like a B team, whereas every team City put out looks class. Liverpool really have 4 or 5 world class players, City have more than 11.

Joe Gomez goes down awkwardly on his ankle as he tussles for the ball and that looks painful. He's receiving some treatment but Jurgen Klopp might be forced into a change here.

Klopp will be delighted with how Liverpool are playing. They're showing all the right signs. Hopefully they can keep progressing and have a chance or two before the break.

Joe Gomez puts in another cross but this one isn't as good as the one a few minutes ago as it sails over the bar.

    Southampton 1-1 Liverpool

Southampton have pretty much everyone back in the box as Liverpool keep up the pressure in pursuit of a second goal before half time.

The Saints aren't even looking like catching their opponents on the break anymore. Not sure they can keep this up for the remainder of the game without conceding again.

Saints defending is awful - only a matter of time until Liverpool put the game to bed

Southampton have been rocked since the goal. It's all Liverpool. Southampton are trying to play out not looking over the shoulders, and Milner is counter-pressing. Southampton need to reset and regroup.

Liverpoool are firmly in control of this game and threatening a second goal. Roberto Firmino is taking up some lovely positions and there has been little or no action around Alisson's goal since Nathan Redmond's strike.

Roberto Firmino, who has been excellent tonight, turns on the edge of the area and goes for goal but the ball flies over.

It is just constant pressure from the visitors now, however.

Southampton's goal is under real pressure now as Liverpool look to get ahead.

Lyanco defends well to stop Diogo Jota getting connection inside the box before Alex McCarthy has to stretch to push away James Milner's strike.

What a finish. It's not easy. It's a massive goal.

Southampton sat into the 4-4-2 and Liverpool gradually got a foothold. They've got their goal and will look to add to that in the first half.

That's what quality does. You switch off for a second, I didn't even see it coming. It's a really good first touch, the second touch was a tidy one which kept him away and set him up. Brilliant finish, power into the top corner.

    Takumi Minamino

    Great finish!

The former Southampton loanee scores against his former club as Diogo Jota plays the ball into his path and Takumi Minamino thumps a shot into the roof of the net with so much pace Alex McCarthy can do nothing about it.

A 10th goal of the season for Minamino.
