Roberto Firmino shoots from the edge of the area but his effort is blocked by Mohammed Salisu.
Most of Liverpool's shots have been hopeful rather than convincing. They are struggling to get through the Southampton defence.

I miss Virgil van Dijk out there in terms of his prescence. Southampton will have thought it's an opportunity. They're missing him and his leadership tonight.
Southampton 1-0 Liverpool
A reminder that if Liverpool lose, Manchester City will be crowned champions tonight.
Lots of football still to be played, though.

Liverpool had looked comfortable in possession up to the goal but there was nothing even Alisson could do about that.
Jurgen Klopp thought there was that foul in the build-up but Liverpool must put it behind them right away with so much at stake.

How in any shape or form is that not a foul on Jota? The ref was 5 yards away and said he got the ball when he was nowhere near it
Bill
shwanchalabi: Liverpool need to stop going down so easy .. They are building a bad reputation now. Which is sad for a brilliant side that can play football.
Joe Baker: Great goal by Redmond but how has the ref not given a free kick for a foul on Jota just before? Completely took him out!

Pep from Manchester
Southampton 1-0 Liverpool
The good news for Liverpool is there's plenty of time for them to turn things around. A nice link up play between Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota results in a corner for the Reds but once again it is dealt with by the Southampton defence.

I thought it was a definite foul. I'm not sure why it hasn't gone to VAR. Jurgen Klopp is fuming but take nothing away from Nathan Redmond. It's a fantastic finish.

Jurgen Klopp is frustrated with a foul in the build-up. I felt it was a foul.
Southampton smash it wide to Redmond, who picks the ball up with conviction. He cuts inside and bends it top bins. Alisson has no chance. The shot, the pace, the quality from Redmond - there's a slight deflection but you have to give credit.
But I did feel there was a foul on Diogo Jota in the build-up.
Southampton 1-0 Liverpool
A bit of panic in the Liverpool back line and fire in the Southampton belly.
The fans are bouncing as Southampton come forward again.
Nathan Redmond
Well then!
Southampton once again exploit Liverpool's high line as Nathan Redmond charges down the left. He gets to the box, cuts inside and bends a brilliant strike into the far corner.
A beautiful goal but Jurgen Klopp is fuming. He feels there was a foul on Diogo Jota in the build up. VAR checks and nothing is given.
Liverpool are behind in a game they have to win.

It’s the last week of the season and still all 20 league positions to be decided! One of the best PL seasons ever?

A scare for Liverpool.
Southampton do really well to play out from the back and the ball is played to Armando Broja. He gets the better of Joel Matip but his shot is saved.

I like the way Liverpool have started, they're on the front foot ready to pounce. They might have to be patient at times against two banks of four. They have to feel their way into the game and I'm sure chances will come.
Southampton 0-0 Liverpool
Ibrahima Konate is down as it looks like he got a knock to his head when jumping for that corner. He appears to be OK after a check by the medical team.

Any negative pass, Liverpool pounce on it. Even though it's not their first team, Southampton know they cannot hold onto the ball, Liverpool will press, press, press and hunt you down.
