The half-time whistle goes.
No shots on target for either team. Villa will be the happier team.

Brilliant football whether it was a foul or not. Challenge was physical, the crowd lifted, Ashley Young did really well, then the break was quick. Ollie Watkins went wide and you fancied it was going in the corner. The atmosphere - that's what these Aston Villa fans have been waiting for. But when they get those chances you feel Villa have to put them away.

For most of this match Aston Villa just haven't been able to get the ball. Manchester City are hogging it, but Emiliano Martinez has still not had a save to make, although has twice had to show some good handling.
Villa have managed to keep the league's top goalscorer Erling Haaland quiet so far, with the Norwegian only having four touches of the ball in the opening 30 minutes.
The home fans are desperately trying to lift their side with even just a good challenge getting a huge cheer. And Ollie Watkins nearly gave the hosts the lead against the run of play. He ran at John Stones, produced a stepover to create space but the England defender did well with a sliding block to deflect the shot away for a corner, which came to nothing.
But it has cranked up the volume at Villa Park and the visitors are starting to show some signs of frustration.
Aston Villa 0-0 Man City
City start an attack from the back with Ederson finding Kyle Walker. Kevin de Bruyne plays a through ball to Erling Haaland but Tyrone Mings defends very well to hold him off.

Gerrard needs to sub himself on for villa, their midfield is spineless. Training session for De Bruyne and co.

Re: Josh Hammond. Just be careful what you’re saying. I’m still trying to finish off my shoe after losing last-minute bet because it was silly in my opinion to believe that Man Utd would lose first two games of the season.

Re. Simon. Can you not say that about the Man City line up every week?

Great defending by Ashley Young to stop Kevin de Bruyne getting away down the left...
Villa counter and Ollie Watkins gets into the box and has a shot which is deflected by a defender and goes just wide. Huge chance.
Aston Villa 0-0 Man City
Erling Haaland plays the ball to Kevin de Bruyne and immediately makes a run into the box for a return ball which he knows will come. Luckily for Villa, Emiliano Martinez is alert and off his line to catch that pass.
Aston Villa 0-0 Man City
Good work by Tyrone Mings and then Douglas Luiz to stop a City attack. Now Joao Cancelo has a cross blocked, and a follow-up one held by Emiliano Martinez on the ground.
Aston Villa 0-0 Man City
Does 33 minutes count as a goal drought for Erling Haaland?
Aston Villa 0-0 Man City
It's still all City but it's been a while since they've created a real chance.
Aston Villa 0-0 Man City
City goal machine Erling Haaland is inches away from getting onto a through ball.
He's only had five touches so far.

Ashley Young got a great reception from the Manchester City supporters. This is a big test for him to come on at right-back. He is the club captain, he has the experience, but we will have to see how he gets on.

Apparently Matty Cash's yellow card was for "leaving the field of play". An unusual one.

Millions of us Fantasy Football managers are counting on a Haaland bucket full and are thankful Salah wasn't our captain this week!

Aston Villa 0-0 Man City
Matty Cash's last act was to concede a corner after Kevin de Bruyne basically kicked the ball against him.
The corner comes to nothing.
