  1. 'Fulham have surprised me'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Fulham v Newcastle (15:00 BST)

    Chris SuttonImage source, .

Newcastle aren't on a particularly good run and have only won once this season, but I like the way they play and they have deserved more from a couple of games they have drawn so far.

But the Magpies might be short up front here, with Alexander Isak definitely out, Callum Wilson on his way back from injury and Chris Wood picking up a knock on international duty.

So, I am going for a draw here. Being honest, Fulham have surprised me with the way they have started this season so well and they have a bit of confidence in defence as well as their attack. They clearly believe in the way they play.

    Sutton's prediction:1-1

  2. 'We've used the time to get to know people'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

Crystal Palace v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

This is Graham Potter's first Premier League game as Chelsea manager, having replaced Thomas Tuchel last month.

They drew 1-1 with Salzburg in Potter's first game on 14 September - but have not played a league game since 3 September because of the queen's death and then the international break.

“We’ve used the time to get to know people but at the same time we want to play as that’s where you find out about everything, learn a lot and make progress," he said.

On picking a team when most of his players have been away with their countries, he said: “It’s part of the challenge. You’ve got to start somewhere."

  3. 'Hard to keep consistency'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Liverpool v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Final Score

Its hard to keep consistency levels year on year and Mohamed Salah has done well so far. We saw a consistent Liverpool team for so long but with so many changes its hard to get that consistency again, its overloaded.

  4. Could new players bring spark?published at 14:53 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Southampton v Everton (15:00 BST)

    Marc Webber
    Final Score

Quite a few Southampton fans getting excited in the tea queue at today’s selection. They feel today’s three debutants (Maitland-Niles, Caleta-Car and Larios) could be a new spark to a team that didn’t seem to have earlier in the season.

They’re happy to give them a go in a game like Everton whilst returning internationals are eased back.

  5. 'I don't know what to expect from Chelsea'published at 14:52 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

Crystal Palace v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

    Sutton's predictionImage source, .

I don't really know what to expect from Chelsea here, and whether anything will click at all or change dramatically in Graham Potter's first league game in charge.

It is going to take time for him to mould them into his team, doing what he wants to see.

But what we do know is that, so far this season, too many Chelsea players have not been at the level required - and that has to change.

Crystal Palace will make things difficult for them, but I think we will see an improvement from the Blues, and it might be enough for them to edge this.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-2

  6. 'Brighton knew what they wanted'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Liverpool v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Final Score

The job Graham Potter did at Brighton was phenomenal, his styling shows what a manager is and is tactically very good. They have players used to playing in an attacking style. Brighton have taken their time to appoint a manager and would have known what they wanted when they brought in Roberto de Zerbi.

  7. 'Potter had few tasty derbies here'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

Chelsea v Crystal Palace (15:00 BST)

    Chris Wise
BBC Radio 5 Live commentator at Selhurst Park

Another small part of this whole occasion for Graham Potter is that he begins his Premier League reign with Chelsea at a location that’s been a rather hostile environment for him in the past.

Potter had a few tasty derby games here with Brighton, but interestingly, he’s never beaten Crystal Palace as a manager.

  8. 'Everton have been better recently'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Southampton v Everton (15:00 BST)

    Chris SuttonImage source, .

I don't really know what to make of Southampton. They sometimes play with blood and thunder under Ralph Hasenhuttl, but other times they don't seem to attack very much at all.

Everton have been better recently but, along with Newcastle they are the draw specialists in the Premier League this season, and I can see the points being shared again here.

    Sutton's prediction:1-1

  9. 'Red card ruins game'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    FT: Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Final Score

With that red card, these type of decisions are ruining the game, 62 minutes in and 2-1 down, it ruins the game. Spurs became disjointed and it affected their game plan, they probably did give up on the result at the end.

  10. Attacking line up from Vieira and Palacepublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

Crystal Palace v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport at Selhurst Park

Patrick Vieira is showing he thinks attack is the best form of defence. In his starting XI he has named Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Jordan Ayew and Odsonne Edouard.

There is one blow for him though as Joachim Andersen misses out with a calf problem.

  11. 'We made big mistakes with easy passes'published at 14:44 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte speaking to BT Sport: "I think the first half was in the balance. We had many chances to score. We made a big mistake with the last pass because we had great space. In the second half we conceded a second goal early and we could do much better.

"With the the red card, [went] the game. It was a really difficult game after that. We had to change totally then. It was the referee’s decision and I don’t want to comment.

"We had the opportunity to exploit much better and stay up and I repeat that I think we made big mistakes in the last pass and with easy passes but it happens and straight after the national team it is a bit difficult because players arrive at a different time.

"Now we have to move on but we know our role in this league and we have to try and do our best to stay close to the other teams at the top. I tried to give minutes to players because the game had ended and also to try and save energy.

"I wanted to give players time especially [Oliver] Skipp and [Matt] Doherty because we need the whole squad because we have many games in front of us in a short period."

  13. 'We can go again'published at 14:43 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's Eric Dier speaking with BT Sport: "They started better in both halves, and scored a good goal from outside the box. After that we were much better, got to 1-1 but lacked quality in the final pass.

"Same again in the second half. We didn't start well, conceded a poor goal after the sending off and it was difficult.

"It was 2-1 at that point and they scored straight away again. We couldn't really organise ourselves before they got the third.

"This is the beginning of the season so it is not too much of a big blow. It's disappointing, of course, but we lost here at the start of last season as well and built again and had a good finish. I am sure we can do the same and go again this year."

  14. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

Fair to say that Arsenal legend Ian Wright is pretty happy with how the afternoon has unfolded so far..

  15. Postpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Liverpool v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

More from Brighton CEO Paul Barber speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We do a lot of checks on the players and staff coming in, not just their playing and coaching backgrounds but who they are as people, what they do in their spare time, their family situations, what they are like as human beings.

"The background checks we did on Roberto with the things that went on in Ukraine, a very sad situation, we knew that Roberto had conducted himself at the highest level. The people we spoke to in Ukraine had nothing but very good things to say about him so we knew that we were getting a good person and obviously work starts for him today on the pitch."

  16. 'Roberto was top of our list'published at 14:37 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Liverpool v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton CEO Paul Barber speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "The work Roberto de Zerbi did with Sassuolo and Shakhtar was very good. It was the sort of football that Graham Potter had been working with us on, it was attacking, possession-based football, encouraging players to be brave and express themselves on the field without getting hung up on individual errors form time to time.

"That was very much Graham’s way. Roberto has a similar style. He is demanding but he is also a good human being who gets to know the players both on a personal and a profession level. We felt that both from a footballing and cultural point of view he would be an excellent replacement for Graham if we were to ever lose him.

"Of course we weren’t expecting to lose Graham six games into the season but these things happen, we have a succession plan in that eventuality. Roberto was top of our list and we’re delighted to get him."

  17. 'A tough act to follow'published at 14:36 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    Liverpool v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Guy Mowbray
Match of the Day commentator on BBC Football Focus

Brighton with Roberto de Zerbi - I don't think it will be much different than with Graham Potter. It should be stylish football. Brighton would have factored in a continuity plan. They are a well-run club and would have thought about this for a while. It's a tough start and a tough act to follow.

  18. 'From the first second we were the better team'published at 14:35 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    FT: Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham

    Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka speaking to BT Sports: "We didn't have a lot of weeks to prepare because of the international break, but we saw yesterday in training that we were ready.

"From the first second I think we were the better team. After we conceded we were struggling a little bit, but in the second half we were much better and I am so happy to score and help the team to win. My first derby goal in England. I’m more than happy to help the team. The team is the most important thing."

  19. 'We are in a good way'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    FT: Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham

    Arsenal

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus speaking to BT Sport: "To be honest it’s the second time I scored in a derby. The first was for Brazil against Argentina. I’m very happy, I want to score in every game and the way team played from the first minute showed how we wanted to play.

"We deserved to win, I don't know how many chances we created. I am feeling at home because of the guys, the staff, the club and it’s helped a lot. I’m really happy here and we are in a good way."

  20. 'Spurs masters of their own downfall'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 1 October 2022

    FT: Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham

    Glenn Murray
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Emerson Royal's soft, stupid red card killed the game. Within five minutes of the red card, Graham Xhaka put the game to bed at 3-1. For all of Arsenal's good play, I feel Spurs were masters of their own downfall.

The second goal was soft, there were poor decisions in key moments. Antonio Conte conceded defeat making a quadruple substitution and taking his attacking players in Son and Richarlison off.
