    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Rodri takes the ball from Mohamed Salah - Liverpool are appealing for a free-kick - and it leads to a chance for City as Virgil van Dijk's headed clearance is a poor one. The shot is blocked before Kevin de Bruyne wins a corner a few moments later.

Klopp will be happier with the start from his team. I've seen City so many times this season and they have come flying out of the traps and have a real fluency to their passing but that hasn't happened today. I think that's a credit to Liverpool and the way they've set up and the aggression they are playing with.

Joe Gomez comes across to put in a strong tackle on Phil Foden and wins the ball. Foden gets back up quickly to try and beat James Milner to the loose ball but the Liverpool skipper reaches it first.

Liverpool are certainly taking this to Manchester City and Mohamed Salah is a real threat. He has often looked isolated on the right wing this season but he is roving today and carries much more menace.

  5. 'We were better than the best team in the league'published at 17:03 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Leeds 0-1 Arsenal

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a really good performance from us. Discipline, concentration over the entire match even with the late start, which was strange on the day.

"A performance that showed that when we play the way we want to play, we can be very good. That's the best team in the league right now and today we were better."

On individual mistakes: "We're making it hard on ourselves and not capitalising on moments when we're on top in games. We could have scored four or five goals and we'd walk out of here feeling like it was the perfect match.

"But that's where we are right now. I'm not discouraged. The goals will come. If we keep playing like that and keep believing in what we're trying to achieve, we have big potential this season."

On the delay: We said that none of us have been through this but the key for us was to stay concentrated and I think we did that."

On Bamford's missed penalty: "We practice penalties every week. Patrick's one of our best guys in training. It's disappointing he couldn't finish it, I think it would have changed the game. At 1-1, I think we could have pushed the game. It's a funny game sometimes."

On VAR overturning the second penalty and Gabriel's red card: "I didn't see it, I don't know what happened."

Erling Haaland is so dangerous. He gets there before Virgil van Dijk and tries to chip it over Alisson. The Liverpool goalkeeper just reaches it.

    That was close...

  7. Man Utd unhappy over Ronaldo disallowed goalpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 16 October 2022

    FT: Man Utd 0-0 Newcastle

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester United are still simmering over Cristiano Ronaldo's disallowed goal at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Ronaldo nipped in as Nick Pope was lining up a free-kick, believing Fabian Schar had played it back to the Newcastle keeper.

Manager Erik ten Hag went straight to referee Craig Pawson at the final whistle and said afterwards: "I don't have a comment, everyone has seen it. I shared that with them."

Newcastle counterpart Eddie Howe was more effusive.

"It was clear Fabian wasn’t taking the kick and he was allowing Nick to do it," he said. "Nick was waiting to deliver the free-kick when Ronaldo took the ball.

"That would be a very, very difficult decision to swallow."

Keivin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland are involved as City move it across from right to left with pace.

Haaland tees up Phil Foden but like Harvey Elliott a few moments ago, he doesn't shoot and the chance goes. Eventually he goes back to Ilkay Gundogan and he skies it.

Nathan Ake does brilliantly, that was a really important challenge otherwise Harvey Elliott would have been in on goal after Mohamed Salah initially outmuscled Ruben Dias.

Some bad news on the injury front from Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

Sweden forward Aleksander Isak has suffered a recurrence of the thigh injury that has kept him out for six weeks.

Isak was expected to be involved in today's game at Manchester United but missed the game at Old Trafford.

"Isak has injured his thigh," said Howe. "We probably won’t see him again before we break for the World Cup."

What a ball from Van Dijk, out to the right hand side. It must be about 50-60 yards. Ederson flies out with a right handed save but Robertson should hit the target.
