Erling Haaland almost gets on the end of a ball through the middle but it's just slightly too far for him. Relief around Anfield.

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a really tough game, Leeds did well, especially in the second half and they put a lot of pressure on us so it is extra nice to leave to leave with three points Big momentum for us, we have won one another game, we need to keep this going and today we have showed we can win no matter what."
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Good work from Harvey Elliott gets the crowd going again, but another Manchester City wave follows. Intense start.

Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard told BBC Match of the Day: "We were much better today, we created lots and lots of chances, the way we played in and out of possession, the intensity.
"The first hour was how I want this team to look. We made a costly mistake and they punished us. The performance was outstanding up to the second goal, which knocked the wind out of us. Up to that point we dominated large parts of the game and on another day could have had a handful of goals.
"We have to keep performing. If we have that level of performance I have every confidence and belief in the players. We hit the woodwork three times, the goalkeeper had made a number of saves, we gave everything to the game.
"We need to turn these results into wins and try to move up the table. For me it's about protecting the players. There will be criticism and I need to take the responsibility away from the players.
"If we can replicate that [first] 60 minutes we will move up the table quickly as Chelsea could not live with us. I've had support from above [the board] but a lot of that support is injured. I have to keep fighting and I will take any criticism that comes my way and accept it."
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Diogo Jota does well to regain possession for Liverpool on the left but once again Manchester City quickly set about winning it back.

CM: Think Arsenal just used up a season's worth of luck in that half.
Saqub: What a dramatic match between Leeds and Arsenal full of debatable incidents. VAR heavily involved. Leeds played so well in the second half and deserved something. Credit to Arsenal for battling so hard to secure a precious win.
Andy: As a Man Utd fan I have to salute the Arsenal board for sticking with Arteta. A year ago they could have taken the easy option and bowed to fan pressure/hysteria. They are now seeing the rewards of keeping him though I still think City will win the league.

Manchester City are trying to get on the ball and take the heat out of this Anfield atmosphere. They have just had one lengthy spell of possession that came to nothing but already look composed on the ball.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Liverpool managed to rush City quite effectively in the opening five minutes or so but the visitors are dictating the play now. Liverpool are looking to pounce on any loose passes but they can't keep hold of the ball when they do get a sniff.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Joao Cancelo gets the ball deep on the right but he can't deliver the goods with his cross and Liverpool will be allowed to build again.

What a fantastic game of football! That's one of the most exciting 1-0 score lines I've ever seen!
This game will be talked about for a long long time. Arsenal got very very lucky and Leeds were very unlucky. If they keep playing like that, don't worry Leeds fans, you will be fine.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
This is better from Manchester City, who enjoy a decent spell of possession for the first time.
Liverpool continue to hunt them down and the hosts are keeping them at bay fairly effectively for now.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
City slow things down at the back but spring into life as Erling Haaland picks up possession and drives his side upfield. Nothing comes of his first chance to impress at Anfield.

Ahmed: This is why you want VAR. Leeds would have a penalty and Gabriel would have been sent off.
Marc: Good decision and perfect use case for VAR. Why don’t they do that more often?
Jake: Can those people calling for the match to be played without VAR understand why they couldn't do that? What decisions they would have missed!
FT: Leeds 0-1 Arsenal
Good luck to our friend Shamoon who is writing the match report for that game...
Leeds 0-1 Arsenal
What a game. It was frantic, it was wild and there was drama all over the place.
Bukayo Saka's excellent finish gives Arsenal victory after Patrick Bamford missed a penalty and there was plenty of VAR intervention.
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Mo Salah can't quite catch up to a long ball forward over on the right wing as we await the first attempt. It's all in Manchester City's half for now though.
Leeds 0-1 Arsenal
Aaron Ramsdale comes a long way to deal with a cross and doesn't quite clear it. It's curled in and Leeds have a corner. The keeper is up!!!
Liverpool 0-0 Man City
Rodri calmly sends the ball back to Ederson as Liverpool continue to press high and rush the visitors.
The home crowd are getting right behind them too. City aren't being allowed to settle into a rhythm.
