  1. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

    Man City 0-0 Brighton

Here's Erling Haaland now though as he breaks to the near post to meet Kevin de Bruyne's cross. Haaland knocks the ball beyond Robert Sanchez and goes down, wanting a penalty. The VAR check is quick, however, and no spot kick is awarded.

  2. First of the season for Calvert-Lewinpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

    Everton 1-0 Crystal Palace

That was Dominic Calvert-Lewin's first goal in the Premier League this season.

Crystal Palace have conceded three goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half, only Bournemouth (six) and Aston Villa (four) have conceded more in the Premier League this season.

    Man City 0-0 Brighton

Almost 20 minutes in and no shots on target yet for either side. Erling Haaland has barely had a touch of the ball but, as we've seen, he never needs many to cause some damage.

    Man City 0-0 Brighton

Manchester City stepping it up a bit as they win a couple of corners. Brighton half clear the second before Kevin de Bruyne swings in a ball that is not quite a cross and not quite a shot.

Pep Guardiola is very animated, doesn't seem best pleased with his side's start.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin helped create that goal too. Everton have been pressing high from the first minute successfully and he put Luka Milivojevic under pressure.

When it came back into his feet from Alex Iwobi it was a stunning turn and the crowd are chanting his name now. Everton have deserved that!

Brighton are setting traps for Manchester City. They are allowing them possession deep in their half, but as soon as they get to a certain area, Adam Lallana, Solly March and Danny Welbeck press.

They have a high line as a back four and putting City under pressure.

  7. Akanji on the rightpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

    Man City 0-0 Brighton

It's interesting that Pep Guardiola has opted to play Manuel Akanji at right-back, rather than switch Joao Cancelo and bring in Sergio Gomez or Nathan Ake on the left.

That suggests Guardiola feels there will be attacking opportunities down the left for Cancelo to exploit.

  8. goal

GOAL - Everton 1-0 Crystal Palacepublished at 11 mins

    Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton strike first at Goodison Park and it's Dominic Calvert-Lewin with the goal.

Luka Milivojevic loses the ball 25 yards from his own goal, Alex Iwobi gets it and passes it to Calvert-Lewin, who is too fast and too good for Marc Guehi.

Calvert-Lewin gets clear of his marker and drills a low finish past Vicente Guaita.

Oooh Ederson gets away with a big mistake!

The Manchester City goalkeeper hits his clearance straight to Danny Welbeck, who has work to do from range but his attempted lob goes over.

What a sublime pass that was just then by Amadou Onana over to Anthony Gordon on the right-hand side for Everton. There was a lot of appreciation from the stands and it has been a strong start from Everton so far.

Anthony Gordon looks in the mood today for Everton. He again gets free down the right flank but the low cross is not the best and easily with by Joel Ward. Neither goalkeeper with anything to do just yet.

  12. 'If we can beat Liverpool we can beat anyone'published at 15:09 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Liverpool

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates, speaking to BBC Sport: "We needed that, a few weeks ago it was tough, five consecutive defeats. We had to go back to basics and get that team shape and slowly week by week we're getting points.

"We knew what the fixture meant to the fans and from minute one we wanted to put them on edge of their seats with a high energy game.

"It's been weeks of nearly being there and at the wrong end of a few things of our own making. We've put in a great performance today, it's three points but it's not enough. We need to be out of the bottom three."

On his own high-energy and industrious performance: "I need to be a nuisance and show that quality on the ball. I thought I'd scored, could not believe Alisson saved that.

"The strikers said he comes out quick so wait an extra second and lift it. I did that and he still saved it!"

On what the win must do for Forest: "It's got to propel our season. If we can beat Liverpool we can beat anyone. It is not going to be smooth sailing but it has got to give lads confidence."

Entertaining is not how I'd describe this game so far. A very tepid start with both goalkeepers having had nothing at all to do.

There is an air of expectancy here today.

City have gone two games without a win, playing a team they would expect to beat and the crowd a very quiet.

There is an air of 'go on then, entertain us'.

  15. Postpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

Nice play by Brighton as they work the ball down the left to Leandro Trossard, whose cross is cleared and Manchester City then break before Kevin de Bruyne puts an uncharacteristically poor ball into the box and Brighton deal with it.

  16. Postpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

Anthony Gordon, high up the right wing, gets in a cross after outpacing Tyrick Mitchell, but the ball doesn't stay in play and Palace have a goal kick.

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira was having a long catch-up with former Arsenal team-mate Ashley Cole, now a first-team coach at Everton, before kick-off.

Vieira's managerial counter-part Frank Lampard was at Manchester City when their paths crossed, while both he and Vieira ended up at New York City in the MLS - a few months apart.

    Brighton have started brightly.

They were too open at Liverpool, which gave chances away. Here they are engaging with Manchester City's defence high up, pressing them and not allowing possession.

  19. Postpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

Brighton are keen to play it out of the back but it is a bit risky with Manchester City pressing high and Lewis Dunk does well to get himself out of a bit of a nervous moment.

Manuel Akanji is lining up at right back for Manchester City, with Aymeric Laporte and Ruben Dias at centre back and Joao Cancelo on the left.

Plenty of City possession in these early stages.
