Stevo: Southgate is spot on...if Leeds (no disrespect) can consistently skin TAA and Gomez, what hope do they have trying to stop Brazil, Belgium et al? No point having the best crosser of a ball if you're already 4 nil down.

Alisson plays a long ball down the right which is perfect for Mohamed Salah. He cuts inside and picks out Roberto Firmino but he loses control. Liverpool manage to keep possession though.

I think all the talk of Liverpool being two games away from winning everything last year has only papered over the massive crack of them also being only two penalty shootouts away from winning nothing last year.

Brenden Aaronson's free-kick is headed away but only as far as Rasmus Kristensen. He snatches at it on the edge of the box though and it slices well wide.

Paul: I think Leeds have played well so far even if the goal did come from an howler. I’ve seen them a lot and don’t think I’ve ever seen them play truly badly. I’m an Arsenal fan and they were better than us and didn’t deserve lose. I hope they stick with Marsch.

Christopher: Liverpool's defenders get a lot of stick, but they arent helped by the fact that Liverpool's midfield is like Swiss cheese

I'm convinced some of our players aren't putting it all in and saving themselves for the World Cup. Not Salah though as he's not going!

  8. CLOSE!published at 21 mins

    Liverpool 1-1 Leeds

Another big chance for Leeds as it comes across to Jack Harrison on the right-hand side of the box. His first touch is decent but late pressure from Virgil van Dijk forces him a little wide and his shot is too close to Alisson.

What a chance! It's a lovely ball in from Rasmus Kristensen on the right but Brenden Aaronson can't quite keep it down as he directs it onto the crossbar.

Dennis Ethan: ROBBO ASSIST! How good is Robertson going forward??

Jude in Wales: The good, the bad and the ugly. The good, van Dijk and Robertson. The bad, Arnold and Gomez. The ugly, Liverpool's season so far.

Roberto Firmino flicks it on for Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right. He's in behind but can't curl it across to Darwin Nunez. It's blocked and out for a corner, which Pascal Struijk deals with.

Jack Harrison then carries it immediately up the other end before he loses out to Thiago on the edge of the box.

Liverpool needed to get back on level terms quickly to get their fans buzzing again and they've done just that.

There was a slightly nervous silence for 20 seconds or so while the VAR check was under way but Anfield is bouncing once again with Mo Salah's name ringing through the air.

    Liverpool are back in it.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's curling cross comes all the way through to Andy Robertson on the far side. Leeds don't react and he picks out Mohamed Salah.

He adjusts his body and volleys it in from close range as he's left unmarked.

Rachel: I think every Liverpool fan needs a hoilday away from this club at the moment. Thank god the world cup is only a few weeks away. The suffering is nearly over.

Paul: Joe Gomez and “howler” in the same sentence. I’m shocked. Not. He makes so many howlers you could stick his face in the dictionary next to the word. He’s a liability.

Nice move. Andy Robertson plays it across the edge of the box to Roberto Firmino. He lets it run through his legs for Darwin Nunez and gets the return pass. Illan Meslier has to be sharp to block him at the near post.

Everton boss Frank Lampard to BBC Sport: "I will take that. We got a lot of credit last week and today we were not at that level. Last year we would lose that game so there is progress, but I want more.

"Fulham have got an individual up front [Aleksandar Mitrovic] who is big, he holds it and they play off him and create momentum. People get excited by one performance last week but I don't. We are still in that process. It's a long road and we are in the early stages of it.

"It was a red card for Mitrovic, I have nothing against him but he knew, he put his arm up straight away. VAR is there to deal with these things. Last year our midfielder Allan got a yellow, it was upgraded to red and he got a four-game ban. It was nowhere near as forceful as that one tonight. It was a red card and we haven't had those decisions this year.

"Jordan Pickford has been great, he's top-level. Last week he had his feet up, this week he did his job. We are delighted to have him."

    Liverpool 0-1 Leeds

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Anfield

I make it eight out of their 12 Premier League games so far this season that Liverpool have conceded the first goal and that statistic is clearly troubling for a side chasing a top-four finish.

More sloppy passes are met with groans and shouts of "wake up" from fans around me.

It is another sluggish start by Liverpool.
