  1. 'Conceding three goals is too much'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    FT: Tottenham 4-3 Leeds

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte to Match of the Day: “At the end, after 13 games, I think it’s better to see the positive side. To come back in a difficult game and to finish with a win.

"But if you ask me about the game, when my team concede three goals, I’m never happy because it means you need to improve.

"This period has been difficult because of preparing games every 2-3 days. We need to rest and then we need to work.

"If we want to be competitive then conceding three goals is too much.

"We have to change conceding quickly, to go every game 1-0 down is not positive so for this reason I want to take the positive side because my players showed great will and desire to win the points."

On Rodrigo Bentancur, he said: “Rodrigo has enormous potential, he’s strong physically, he has good endurance, he has everything. For this reason I’m pushing him to push himself, to become a top midfielder because he has the characteristics to be a top midfielder. I think he’s playing really well but I’m sure he can also do much better."

On the break, he added: “I’m really happy to have this break because we arrived today very tired, with a lot of stress.

"I think for sure we have to continue to improve. I hope there's no injures from the World Cup because those injures could affect the rest of the season."

  2. 'We are underachieving as a group'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    FT: West Ham 0-2 Leicester

    West Ham United

West Ham captain Declan Rice speaking to Sky Sports:

"Fine margins, I didn't see a dominating Leicester performance. I saw a West Ham performance playing on the front foot, tried to have energy and we missed our chances and they caught us with two counter-attacks - that was the story of the game."

On whether boos were fair: "Yes because if you look at quality of players we are underachieving as a group. It is down to us to create chances, score goals and defend and it's not working for us at the moment."

On pressure on David Moyes: "Nonsense. Look at what he's done at this club, the way he's brought us back from where we were. This is probably the best West Ham side we've had in years. There's always pressure in these moments but no way should that pressure be on the manager."

On James Maddison going to World Cup: "Delighted for him top player and person. Fully deserved his call-up and can't wait to see him show his quality on the biggest stage."

On refocussing on England: "When I'm with England on Monday my full focus will be there but as captain of West Ham I don't want to be in this position. It's a lot of stress and a lot to deal with, I don't think I will be able to switch off tonight. It will be hard to get through that but my full focus will be on England on Monday."

  3. 'Shocking, horrendous'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    FT: Bournemouth 3-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton defender Conor Coady: "One hard look in the mirror for every single one of us, that is not good enough.

"Personal pride and standard is what we have to set in training, it is nothing to do with the manager or staff, we don't have them at the minute. We need to look at ourselves long and hard and are going into a break now. It was shocking, nowhere near good enough. We have to be better in the second half of the season, we HAVE to be better. We have had a long chat about what we need to do.

"Jordan Pickford has come in and apologised, he has been a fantastic goalkeeper for this football club and does not have to do that. They wanted it more than us.

"Massively short (of where they should be). This is Everton Football Club. We are not representing that at the minute. There is a lot of looking at our ourselves to do, I don't know what it is. The only good thing that has come out of this is the second half of the season. We have a lot of learning to do.

"World Cup, everyone is excited. I am looking at today and for me it will take a lot of time to take over. Some of that at the end was horrendous, you don't want to feel that. How can you expect them to be behind us when we are doing that?"

  4. 'We tried to protect World Cup players'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    FT: West Ham 0-2 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers to BBC Sport on James Maddison: "He’s OK. He’ll be fine. It was irritation on the side of the knee. It’s not a muscle. He hadn’t trained much after the Everton game. It was a precaution with him and Youri [Tielemans, who also came off].

“It was a difficult day for players going to the World Cup. We’ve tried to protect them.

“For all the players it’s a challenging situation. You’re very focused. You want to play but in the back of your mind it’s natural to be thinking of the World Cup, meeting up with your national team on Monday. It’s testament to both sets of players. The game was really competitive. There were no challenges shirked.

“We could have been better with the ball. It was not one of our most fluid performances but what we have is this resilience. We played well and lost in the first seven games. Those moments we got punished in. We have done a lot of work on on defensive mentality and organisation. That was needed today.

"You come away to West Ham, who have really talented players, who can score goals. The mentality of the team was superb.

"It’s a long season. We didn’t start well. There is no mystery - hard work on the training field."

On whether it's disappointing to have the break now: "Not really. We knew the break was going to be there. Our idea was to climb off the bottom of table and be mid-table by this break. We’ll have a rest, work hard and then we have a very exciting game against Newcastle on Boxing Day."

  5. 'I learnt a lot today'published at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton manager Nathan Jones: "It would have been really easy for me not to take the game today but I wanted to learn and see how my players handled Anfield.

"I learnt a lot today and that's the main thing. In the first half we were way too passive. In the second half we were much better and much more aggresive and created far more. In the first 10-15 minutes I thought it was an even game. We will get better at it.

"We created some really good chances in the second half but we have to get better out of possession and show a little bit more aggression. We sat off and allowed them to do things that Liverpool are very good at.

"We have to be better than that as good players will carve you open. The goal right before half-time killed us. I've learnt a lot today.

"Teams I manage usually create chances but it's work, confidence and we can't concede three goals.

"We have to pick up points quickly but we have six weeks to really work on certain things we need to do and that's vital. I'm excited to work with this group. We showed in the second half what side we can be. It just has to come together."

  6. 'Nothing was good enough'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2022

    FT: Bournemouth 3-0 Everton

    Everton

Everton manager Frank Lampard to BBC Match of the Day: "I Fully agree [with what Conor Coady said]. We started ok. Played quite well and controlled the first minutes. And as the game turned there was a mistake for the goal, but Jordan has saved us enough times.

"The second goal the referee gets it completely wrong, the game should stop, we have been told that. But you get past those details and nothing was good enough.

"They had more desire than our players, we made mistakes that they didn't make. Do that and you are going to lose games."

On the team's lack of goals: "You can win if you don't score so yeah, [it is worrying].

On the fans reaction at the final whistle: "As good as they are for us with the [team coach] welcomes they gave us last year and the plaudits they gave us after the Crystal Palace game, you have to accept that they have a right to voice their opinion. And they have travelled down to Bournemouth to do that.

On dropping to 17th in the table: "We were probably favourites to go down at the start of this season. There was a reason why we ended up where we did last season. So there is no right to be given anything in the Premier League. It doesn't matter about your history, you have to earn it."

While I recover from being slammed for being negative by my fellow dour Yorkshireman, let's hear some more from the players and managers after the 3pm games...

BBC Sport at St James' Park

    Phil likes his cup half-empty. I'd say it's half-full.

A very intriguing tactical battle, and what you might not be able see on the telly is how hard Newcastle are making Chelsea work.

The difference so far is that Newcastle's midfield is far more fluent with Bruno Guimaraes at its heart. Also impressive has been Joe Willock. Wonder if he was in Gareth Southgate's 55-man long list?

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+2 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Chelsea

That's the break. It is greeted by boos, but not for either side. The home fans are unhappy not to be given a penalty late on there.

  10. Postpublished at 45+2 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Chelsea

Hold on.... this could be interesting!

Dan Burn is fed in down the left and his low cross is blocked by the arm of the sliding Trevoh Chalobah.

VAR will be on this... but they decide no penalty to back up the call by the on-field ref.

They clearly think Chalobah had no option but to have his arm to steady him as he slid.

You want a bit more from Chelsea going forward. They're looking nervous and giving the ball away. As for Newcastle, they need to slow down. They've got more time than they think in the final third.

  13. Postpublished at 45 mins

Edouard Mendy belts a ball at Mason Mount, who can only head it out of play. Not sure what the Blues keeper expected his colleague to do with that?

I saw Gallagher play for Palace last season and he was very impressive in that number 10 type role in midfield, backing up the strikers.

He's given the ball away very cheaply. He's not impressing at the moment. Tonight he is playing right of a three up front but he is not getting much joy.

Graham Potter is pacing, stroking his bottom lip with his thumb in contemplation. His side are putting plenty of effort into this, but they're fashioning precious little. Doing more digging in than flying forward.

It's a hard job for Potter. Chelsea have had a lot of success and he's trying to change things gradually. It's not going to happen overnight.

The corner is taken short and then swung in by Kieran Trippier. Too close to Edouard Mendy, though, and he claims.

  18. Postpublished at 41 mins

Newcastle are finishing the half strong.

Sean Longstaff's cross from the right is behind everyone in the box but falls to Dan Burn to fire in a shot that deflects behind.

    Alistair Magowan

There is a lot more fluency to Newcastle, especially in their midfield. No surprise really when there is consistency in their team selection. That's not something which can necessarily be said about Chelsea.

  20. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Chelsea

Newcastle try to be clever with the corner as Kieran Trippier fires it towards the penalty spot for Fabian Schar to try and hit. He fluffs it, the ball lands at the feet of Joe Willock but he can't get the ball out of his feet quickly enough and Chelsea are on him to block his shot.
