    Leicester 0-1 Aston Villa

A slick Leicester move culminates in Simon sending in another low delivery from the right. Carrie Jones is on the end of it but cannot respond to telling effect as Villa repel the danger.

Leicester are yet to have a shot on target and you suspect they may be punished at some point if they do not start converting these chances into meaningful attempts on goal.

  2. Kelly gets a big cheerpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 25 September 2022

Chelsea v Manchester City (16:00 BST)

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Kingsmeadow

The teams have just been read out by the announcer on the sound system and there was, understandably, a loud cheer for every Chelsea player.

There is a very small pocket of City fans just over to my left, who are making themselves heard, and gave a cheer for their team.

The biggest cheer of the lot went to City forward Chloe Kelly, a round of applause from both sets of fans.

    Can't think why, though?

    Leicester 0-1 Aston Villa

Alisha Lehmann scored a 93rd-minute winner when these sides met last season, but the Switzerland striker cannot trouble Kirstie Levell with a tame low shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Villa have struggled to put together attacks and supply their forward line so far.

  4. Postpublished at 33 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Man Utd

A quiet period in the game at the moment.

    It's become a bit scrappy.

  5. Postpublished at 27 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United look really dangerous from set pieces.

Katie Zelem is taking them and she is whipping them right under the cross bar every single time.

Somehow West Ham have dealt with them all so far. There has been quite a bit of luck involved.

The goal aside, Lydia Bedford will be pleased with how Leicester have played in this first half.

The Foxes pour forward again, forcing Villa to block a succession of shots from the edge of the penalty area.

Molly Pike shows determination to chase a cause down the left, pressuring Rachel Corsie into conceding a corner.

Leicester cannot profit from the ensuing delivery from the same side.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 68 mins

    Brighton 1-0 Reading

Natasha Dowie sees Reading's latest effort tipped round by the post. They are really pushing in this half.

It will be Dowie's final contribution, as she's replaced by Charlie Wellings.

  8. Huge game early in the seasonpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 25 September 2022

Chelsea v Manchester City (16:00 BST)

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Kingsmeadow

    Well, here we go.

A loss a piece for two of the league's top sides. It seems ridiculous that we're talking about a six-pointer at this stage in the season but this is a huge game between two of the heavyweights of the WSL.

Defending champions Chelsea, who lost to WSL newbies Liverpool last week, and Manchester City, who conceded a late goal last week against Aston Villa to lose 4-3.

What a treat to have this game so early in the season, should be a corker.

    Can't wait.

  9. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Brighton 1-0 Reading

Every time I look up Reading are attacking at the Amex Stadium.

Gemma Evans goes close this time, hooking an effort over the barm before Deanna Cooper skews one over.

  10. ouch!

    Postpublished at 21 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Aston Villa

There's a break in play while Leicester's Sophie Howard receives attention after going down following a collision with Hanson midway inside her own half.

The defender rises to her feet after a prolonged period of treatment and is ready to continue.

  11. Postpublished at 20 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Man Utd

Man Utd are continuing to press for the opener.

Ona Batlle does brilliantly to get round her marker on the right-hand wing, and she cuts back for Ella Toone.

The England midfielder settles herself but drags her effort. It nicks off the head of a defender and goes behind for a corner, which West Ham clear.

Alessio Russo then has a strike from outside the area, but it is easily collected.

  12. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Aston Villa

Leicester have had more possession since Aston Villa scored. Visiting manager Carla Ward takes advantage of the chance to offer some of her players instructions at close quarters during a break in play, perhaps wary of the momentum shifting following those good opportunities for Leicester.

Simon swings a cross from the right towards the centre of the penalty area as the hosts continue to probe. Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton quickly advances from her line and leaps to confidently claim.

  13. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 18 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Man Utd

Leah Galton has the ball in the net for the visitors but it won't count.

It was a lovely move by the Reds with Maya Le-Tissier spreading it forward and a flick on is met by Galton, who slides home with her left foot, but the flag goes up immediately.

  14. Postpublished at 17 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Man Utd

West Ham are finally in the Manchester United half.

Viviane Asseyi hits an effort into the defender and the ball falls for Lisa Evans, who signed from Arsenal this summer, but her effort skews wide.

  15. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Brighton 1-0 Reading

Reading are pressing at the Amex.

They work a crossing opportunity from the left but the ball just drifts harmlessly alongside the six-yard box in the Brighton area.

Someone has to be getting on the end of those.

  16. CHANCES FOR LEICESTERpublished at 14 mins

    Leicester 0-1 Aston Villa

The Foxes have their best chance of the game so far as Erin Simon holds off Kirsty Hanson - a repeat of the tussle that led to Villa's penalty - and reaches the byline inside the penalty area on the right.

The defender pulls a low cross back into the path of Shannon O'Brien in space in a promising position, who can only curl a low shot wide.

O'Brien, who played for Villa's youth set-up and is starting her first game of the season today, then takes aim from distance, fizzing an effort wide of Hampton's left-hand post. Encouraging for the hosts.

  17. Team news - three changes for both sidespublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 25 September 2022

Chelsea v Manchester City (16:00 BST)

Defending champions Chelsea make three changes - Sophie Ingle, Niamh Charles drop to the bench for Jess Fleming and Maren Mjelde.

But the most notable change is the return of Ann-Katrin Berger in goal, after Zecira Musovic started last week.

Chelsea XI: Berger, Bright, James, Reiten, Kirby, Eriksson, Fleming, Mjelde, Kerr, Cuthbert, Buchanan

Subs: Musovic, Ingle, Carter, England, Svitkova, Perisset, Kaneryd, Charles, Cankovic

Manchester City make three changes to the side that lost 4-3 to Aston Villa last time out. Demi Stokes and Filippa Angeldahl drop to the bench with Esme Morgan not involved as Kerstin Casparij, Deyna Castellanos and Leila Ouahabi join the fray.

It's the same front three, though, with England stars Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly linking up with Khadija Shaw.

City XI: Roebuck, Casparij, Houghton, Greenwood, Ouhabi, Aleixandri, Castellanos, Coombs, Kelly, Shaw, Hemp

Subs: Maciver, Keating, Stokes, Fowler, Angeldahl, Raso, Losada, Hutchings, Blakstad

    Brighton 1-0 Reading

    Reading should be level.

Tia Primmer sees a shot saved but the ball falls for Natasha Dowie and it almost just hits her and goes wide.

The visitors have been much better since the break.

  19. Postpublished at 10 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Man Utd

Man Utd have almost 80% possession so far.

They work a crossing opportunity down the right for Ella Toone but it is well collected by Mackenzie Arnold in the Hammers goal.

    Leicester 0-1 Aston Villa

Rachel Daly has now scored in each of her last four appearances in the top flight, having also scoring for West Ham in consecutive games in December 2020.

Villa have continued to have the better of the chances and look the more threatening since their new signing made the breakthrough.
