  1. CLOSE!published at 29 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Brighton's turn to almost take the lead now.

Poppy Pattinson, who joined from Everton this summer, plays a ball in behind, that is completely missed by the Reading defence.

Lee Geum-Min races onto it and her effort is steered round the post.

Ah, the flag has gone up anyway. A goal doesn't feel too far away though.

  2. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 28 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

    Almost the opener.

Reading have a free kick about half way into the Brighton.

A brilliant delivery by Rachel Rowe is met by Emma Mukandi at the back post and she sends her header into the back of the note, but the flag goes up for offside.

  3. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Reading are starting to be a bit sloppy with the ball, with Rachel Rowe giving it away this time.

It allows Norway's Elisabeth Terland to run at goal but her effort is deflected behind a corner, which comes to nothing.

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

    Chris Slegg
    BBC Radio Sussex

Neither of these teams have really so far in this opening period managed to get a sustained period of pressure under their belts. Reading perhaps just getting into their stride here.

  5. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

BIG chance! Brighton should be ahead.

The ball is cleared by Brighton and Jorja Fox flicks the ball on.

It falls in between two players and Diane Caldwell slides in for Reading, trying to send it back to her keeper, but doesn't get enough on it.

It allows Katie Robinson to break through and she has two unmarked team-mates waiting for a cross, but shoots instead.

    She's got to square it!

  6. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

The first real effort of the game.

The hosts work the ball nicely down the left wing and it falls for Lee Geum-Min, but she skews her effort comfortably wide of the far post from just outside the area.

  7. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Reading are definitely growing into this game.

Gemma Evans gets away down the left and finds Lily Woodham in the area but she can't control properly and the ball runs out for a goal kick.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 10 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

    That's late.

Diane Caldwell flies into Veatriki Sarri, a summer signing from Birmingham, and although she takes the ball first, she flies into the ankle.

It initially looks like Caldwell was going to get away with just a talking to, but referee Lauren Impey brandishes the yellow card.

The centre half is under pressure for the rest of the game now.

  9. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Reading have settled down a bit and are starting to have some possession.

They haven't won in the WSL since 6 February 2022. They lost seven of their final 10 games last season, before starting with a defeat last weekend.

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

It's a beautiful sunny day in Brighton. There have been just under 5,000 tickets sold at the Amex, apparently.

They hosts are doing the early pressing, and look to get in behind but the offside flag goes up.

  11. Postpublished at 1 min

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

    Hello!

An early high press from Brighton almost forces a mistake out of Grace Moloney but Reading just about force the ball clear.

  12. KICK-OFFpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 25 September 2022

    Brighton 0-0 Reading

Reading get us under way at the Amex, after both teams take the knee.

Goals should hopefully be guaranteed with both sides' defensive records in 2022.

I appreciate that means I've probably just cursed us.

  13. 'It drives the girls on'published at 13:54 British Summer Time 25 September 2022

    Brighton v Reading (14:00 BST)

Could the Amex Stadium be a happy hunting ground again for Brighton? They’ve won their last three games there.

“I’m hoping that those people who were going to come to the opening game will come to this game,” said manager Hope Powell.

“It gives our players an opportunity to showcase their talents - it gives them an opportunity to see it for themselves and perhaps see the enjoyment.

"It really helps the girls and drives them on. They want to put on a show and show those people who come and support that they can play.”

  14. Record crowd 'still just the beginning' - Meadpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 25 September 2022

    Arsenal 4-0 Tottenham

Saturday saw a record Women's Super League crowd as 47,367 attended Arsenal's 4-0 trashing of Tottenham, but Gunners and England forward Beath says it is "still just the beginning" for women's football.

Arsenal's usual home, Meadow Park, has a capacity of 4,500 and was sold out for their season-opening fixture against Brighton, another 4-0 victory.

Mead said the Emirates Stadium crowd "brought so much energy" to Arsenal's dominant display against Spurs.

"It was incredible what we did in the summer but now we want to continue this and hopefully this is still just the beginning," said Mead.

Vivianne Miedema, who scored twice, said it is important to play well so that "people come back to the stadium".

"You feel like something special is happening," she added. "It is just really nice to be a part of it."

  17. First win for Seagulls or Royals?published at 13:42 British Summer Time 25 September 2022

    Brighton v Reading (14:00 BST)

    Hope PowellImage source, Getty Images

Brighton boss Hope Powell sees shared ambitions between her side and opponents Reading after both lost 4-0 on their travels in their first WSL game of the season.

“I'm sure they will see it as an opportunity as well,” said Powell, who took ample positives from her team’s defeat at Arsenal.

“It's going to be a very, very tough game. We expect that. But the girls are keen to go again.

“We recognise it's probably going to be a closer contest than the one we played against Arsenal. Since we've been in the WSL, we've kind of been near each other in the league standing. This is where both teams will want to try to pick up points.”
