Manny: Ronaldo is offering almost nothing in this team. It might not be completely his fault but it's just not working for him and United. Both the stats and display on the pitch show this. Best for all parties if he goes in Jan.

    Southampton 0-1 Newcastle

Oh, almost the opening Saints are craving.

The ball is fed again to Che Adams on the edge of the box and this time he turns his marker to open up space. He can't get the ball under control for a shot, though, and in steps Bruno Guimaraes to nick the ball off him.

    Chance!

It's Newcastle again, who work a crossing chance for Jacob Murphy on the right and he doesn't disappoint with a dinked ball that Sean Longstaff meets but heads over.

    Wilfried Zaha

What a mess by West Ham at the back!

Wilfried Zaha pounces on a mistake by the Hammers defence and smashes it past Lukasz Fabianski from about 15 yards.

Fabianski had rolled the ball out to one of his defenders but West Ham quickly lost possession and Zaha punished them.

All square in the London derby.

    Southampton 0-1 Newcastle

A Saints attack starts with promise down the left as Ainsley Maitland-Niles charges forward. It fizzles, though, when his ball in field to the edge of the box is a fraction behind Che Adams, who can't control.

    Aston Villa 2-0 Man Utd

Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey have been superb. Villa have weathered that recent United spell of pressure and look comfortable.

They are organised and disciplined. There's a long way to go but this has been an outstanding first 45 by Villa.

    Southampton 0-1 Newcastle

Newcastle really have hit on something good.

Yes, the take-over and all the money that came with it was a huge, huge boost to the club, but that is only a part of this story.

The way that money was spent and the job Eddie Howe has done in turning this team into a force to be reckoned with is remarkable.

They are up to third as it stands.

Wilfried Zaha is brought down just outside the box.

    A big moment for Palace.

Eberechi Eze is going to take the free-kick but blasts it straight into the wall.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2022

    Aston Villa 2-0 Man Utd

United are enjoying their best period of the game.

Two saves in a short space of time to keep out a shot by Alejandro Garnacho and a header by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Two important stops by Emi Martinez.

    Miguel Almiron

    He can't stop scoring!

Miguel Almiron is in the form of his life. As soon as he manages to latch on to a ball dummied by Callum Wilson, you know what's going to happen. He even has a man to beat but manages to get past him through sheer will. The finish is low and true and in.

That is seven in seven games for the Paraguayan.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2022

    Southampton 0-0 Newcastle

Saints are forced into a change.

Juan Larios went down holding his thigh and after a bit of treatment it is determined he can't carry on.

On comes Romeo Lavia to replace him. The midfielder signed in the summer from Man City returns from injury to huge cheers.

Ralph Hasenhuttl took the break in play as a chance to law down the law to his players.

Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Donny van de Beek took absolutely five years to play the ball out and that's why he isn't up to the pace with it. It was great play from Diogo Dalot, when Van de Beek gets there he should just spin it in the channels straight away. Marcus Rashford made a great run and can't get back onside by the time Donny van de Beek plays it.

    Clinton Morrison
Former Crystal Palace striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Bruno Fernandes is key for Manchester United. Donny van de Beek hasn't played a lot of football. I watched him the other night against Real Sociedad and he looked a bit short, so I was surprised and it's a big call for Ten Hag to put him in there.

    .

Unai Emery is the sort of manager any fan loves to see in their technical area. He is right out there, animatedly giving out instructions to his players. You wouldn't think it was his first game the way he has got stuck straight into things.

Declan Rice is down after a hefty challenge and is clutching his lower back.

That's not good news with the World Cup around the corner but it looks like he's going to be OK to carry on for now.

One to keep an eye on.
