Spain not picking David de Gea for the World Cup seems like the worst decision since the one I made last night when I scratched my eye after cutting some chillies. He's playing out of his skin lately.

Monaco are in control against Red Star Belgrade in Group H. Kevin Volland has netted his second of the game to give them a 2-0 half-time lead.

That means they will go through in second place. Trabzonspor are leading themselves against Ferencvaros, but need a favour from Red Star if they are to go through in place of the French side.

The whistle goes for half time and Alejandro Garnacho's first goal for Manchester United is the difference.

The visitors need one more without reply to win the group, however.

A corner deep in injury time for Real Sociedad but it is cleared and that may well be the last meaningful action of the half.

There's a VAR check for a potential handball as Manchester United defenders went up to clear a ball inside the box.

More whistles from the home fans tell you what they think but the check is quick, no penalty.

The Manchester United goalkeeper dives to his right to punch away a shot from distance but Pablo Marin is there and looks certain to strike from the loose ball but De Gea reacts quickly to get his head in the way of the shot.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in! The goalkeeper breaks off his line and Ronaldo executes the lob. Everyone is expecting the ball to land inside the goal but instead it drops on the roof of the net.

Ronaldo looks to the linesman, perhaps more in hope of an offside flag than anything. He should have finished that.

An opportunity for Pablo Marin as he runs at the Manchester United defence. He gets to just inside the box before deciding to have a shot but doesn't connect well and scuffs it to the keeper.

Marc: I feel bad for Van de Beek. Shadow of a player, literally no presence on the pitch and I really cannot see what he brings to a team. What has happened to him?

Anon: Alejandro Garnacho looks like he'll be a pretty decent player.

Real Sociedad have a free kick after a foul by Donny Van de Beek. I think that's the first time I've mentioned him because it has been a quiet game by the midfielder.

Some lovely play down the left by Manchester United.

They break quickly from a Real Sociedad attack, with home fans screaming for a penalty for handball.

The referee waves play on and Cristiano Ronaldo flicks the ball into Alejandro Garnacho's path and the teenager surges down the left and towards the area. He passes to Luke Shaw, who takes a bit too long to cross and the chance is gone.

Will: I'm very sorry Lady Gaga, but I will calling his name, Alejandro, for years to come. What a talent!

Lisandro Martinez reads the game so, so well. He's alert to danger inside the box in the shape of Alexander Sorloth but forces the Real Sociedad forward to turn away from goal before then getting a foot in to clear.

Great defending.

Pablo Marin is into a pocket of space some 25 yards from goal and he decides to have a pop but the ball sails well over.

Diego Rico fouls Casemiro on the edge of the Manchester United box and there's jeers from the home fans as they think the Brazilian is making a bit much of it.

Paul: Great finish by Garnacho. Why on earth did Man Utd ever waste so much money on the over rated Sancho when they’ve got this lad? He’s better than Sancho.

JB: It looks like Man Utd have been holding back but you can see it's their game plan. They have held deep to suck in the opposition and hit them hard and fast on the counter. Brilliant tactics by ETH and now Real will be nervous.

Tom: Not a bad pass that from CR7 and what a finish from Garnacho.

Alejandro Garnacho is clearly brimming with confidence. He is found inside the box by Bruno Fernandes and does really well to create some space for himself but slips as he shoots and the ball flies over.

Mikel Merino is able to continue after receiving a bit of treatment...oh wait he's down again after the ball smacks him square in the chest. I think he's winded this time.

When it rains, it pours.

A potential blow for Real Sociedad. They are already depleted because of injuries and they may have another to the list here with Mikel Merino down injured and looking in real discomfort.
