England defender Harry Maguire misses out for Manchester United tonight due to illness.

  3. Team news - Rashford starts for Man Utdpublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

Man Utd v Burnley (20:00 GMT)

Many of the Manchester United stars who played in the World Cup have been back in training this week - apart from Argentina's Lisandro Martinez and France's Raphael Varane, of course.

How many of the returnees from Qatar would start against Burnley tonight was the big question.

England forward Marcus Rashford is one of five picked by Erik ten Hag, but there is no place in the squad for Harry Maguire.

There are also opportunities for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and forward Anthony Martial to shine.

Man Utd XI: Dubravka, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Malacia, McTominay, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Garnacho, Rashford, Martial.

Burnley have earned comfortable victories in both of their matches since the Championship resumed and Clarets boss Vincent Kompany largely sticks to a winning formula.

Kompany makes just two changes as keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell and experienced striker Ashley Barnes start.

Burnley XI: Peacock-Farrell, Roberts, Harwood-Bellis, Beyer, Maatsen, Cullen, Cork, Brownhill, Gudmundsson, Benson, Barnes.

It's been a strange old month at Old Trafford - without the club even playing.

Their highest profile player has left after an extraordinary interview criticising the manager with the club's owners also saying they want out too.

Now, finally, it's back to business as Manchester United plays their first competitive match in more than a month.

They're not the only ones back in action too as Nottingham Forest and Brighton both return as well with the Premier League trio hoping to not be on the receiving end of cup shocks tonight.
