Aaron Wan-Bissaka needed to have a positive evening if he wants to get in the Manchester United side and if he wants to make any claim to be a player for this club. He has to perform when the opportunities come.

He has in the first half, particularly offensively, where he has been criticised in the past.

He saw the opportunity and saw Burnley were narrow. He timed his run perfectly and he put the cross right on the money. It was quality.

We knew this would be an opportunity for some Manchester United players to impress Erik ten Hag and you've got to say Aaron Wan-Bissaka - who many believe should leave Old Trafford in January for a fresh start - is doing that.

Or maybe the United right-back is trying to impress other managers...

Julio Enciso hasn't made the most of his chance to impress either and is replaced by Kaoru Mitoma for the second half.

Vincent Kompany looks like a manager you'd want to play under.

His players have put a couple of passes out and I'm thinking I'd be getting shouted at for that, but he's up running from the bench, giving them a little thumbs up.

He is encouraging them to play the way he wants them to.

The goal was the real moment of quality from Manchester United.

They've had a number of other opportunities to score, and they will think they should be further ahead, but Burnley will feel they are not out of this.

There is plenty of work to do for both managers at half-time.

Nottingham Forest have had 16 shots, seven on target, while Blackburn have had three shots and just the one on target. Yet, somehow, it's 1-1 at the break.

United keeper Martin Dubravka is chewing on his gum as hard as Fergie did when heading inside at half-time to turn on the hairdryer.

Dubravka is more relieved than raging.

Christian Eriksen's goal is the difference between the sides, with Manchester United's quality in the final third proving the difference against a confident Burnley side.

The first half is gone in 60 seconds. No more scenes of thrilling action to report.

Nottingham Forest took the lead with an early penalty through Brennan Johnson, which he had won.

Forest should have moved further ahead, couldn't take their chances and get hit with a set piece just before half-time with Scott Wharton heading in an equaliser following a free-kick taken by brother Adam.

United keeper Martin Dubravka's heart-rate is still a little high. He drills the ball to Aaron Wan-Bissaka at about 100mph.

Very good, actually. Great work from the right-back who then finds Marcus Rashford, but Anthony Martial sets off too quickly and the offside flag goes up.

Adam Wharton has just registered an assist for Blackburn but then concedes a free-kick to Forest just outside the penalty area.

Neco Williams takes it, but it is a good save from Aynsley Pears to push it wide for a corner.

That is Aaron Wan-Bissaka's first goal assist since May 2021, against Liverpool in the Premier League.

The former Crystal Palace man is having quite an effective performance, getting forward quite a lot whilst at the same time keeping an eye on Johann Gudmundsson, who is pushing forward quite a bit.

Five minutes until the half-time oranges are dished out.

Christian Eriksen's goal - superbly laid on a plate by Aaron Wan-Bissaka's athleticism - remains the difference.
