    FT: Leeds 1-3 Man City

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on Amazon Prime

Very professional from Man City. They missed some good chances in both halves. Leeds rallied a little bit when they got that goal but City were never under much threat. It was a very good professional performance from them.

    And that is that!

Manchester City reduce Arsenal's lead back to five points on their Premier League return, thanks to Rodri's opener in first-half stoppage-time and Erling Haaland's second-half double.

    Leeds 1-3 Man City

Pep Guardiola said this was far from an ideal first match for his side as they resumed their Premier League campaign, and you can see why with Leeds' players chasing down everything until the final whistle - regardless of the scoreline.

Fortunately for Guardiola, his side have made their superior quality in attack tell this evening and they're heading back up to second.

  5. CLOSE!published at 90+3 mins

    Leeds 1-3 Man City

Cole Palmer has a go, then Joao Cancelo, then Erling Haaland, but each time there's a white shirt in the way. Good defending. Jesse Marsch will be pleased to see his side going right until the end here.

Steady! John Stones is a little bit too relaxed as he plays a pass back to Ederson and Darko Gyabi almost makes him pay - but Ederson is fast off his line to boot the ball clear.

    Leeds 1-3 Man City

Good pressure from Leeds but they're running out of time to find the goal that really would test Manchester City's mettle.

  9. 'Leeds will go right to the end'published at 21:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2022

    Leeds 1-3 Man City

    Steve Stone
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Leeds still believe they can get something out of this game.

We've talked about them being the late, late show in every game they've played recently. Whether it goes for or against them, they'll go right to the end.

It could go the other way: you could see City catching them on the counter-attack, as well.

    Leeds 1-3 Man City

Nathan Ake, up for a corner, leans back to connect with a loose ball but misses the ball and Leeds scramble clear.

Pep Guardiola sends on Cole Palmer for Riyad Mahrez for the final few minutes.

Martin Tosh: That is an unreal stat.

Phillippa Jane: Erling Haaland is worth every penny. Twenty PL goals already and we're not in 2023! Wouldn't want to guess how many he'll get before May.

Slow in Greece: The kid's unreal. We'll be talking about Haaland's successors like we're talking about Messi's.

The Manchester City fans chant Kevin de Bruyne's name as the visitors are able to take charge of the ball and hush the home support.

  13. Haaland's Golden Boot?published at 21:45 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2022

    Leeds 1-3 Man City

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Elland Road

Erling Haaland now has 20 Premier League goals.

To put that into context, that would have been enough for at least a share of the Premier League's golden boot in five seasons.

In the last four seasons, no-one has scored more than 23.

City still have 23 games to play.

Darko Gyabi, a former Manchester City youth player, is on for Leeds. What a story that would be if he can help his side get back into this.

The hard-working Brenden Aaronson is brought off. Just over five minutes to go.

Now then, Leeds have a free-kick in an excellent position here, 20 yards from goal.

Wilfried Gnonto drives towards the Manchester City box and he goes down under a challenge by Rodri, who is booked.

    Big moment here.

  19. CLOSE!published at 80 mins

Joe Gelhardt curves a low shot towards the far bottom corner but it passes agonisingly wide of the goal - almost in slow motion. Huge chance.

One of those substitutes, Phil Foden, has been involved in seven goals in his last five Premier League starts, scoring six and assisting one.

However, just one of his 10 goal involvements so far this season has come away from home. Can he come up with something in these closing stages to end Leeds' belief?
