I thought Gray was going to go for the shot but in the end he's tried to slide a pass through a tight gap and it comes to nothing.

He's probably been Everton's brightest player this half. Whenever he's had the ball, he's looked to get Everton up the pitch, get at the United defence and get them backpedaling.

    Man Utd 1-1 Everton

Manchester United have now had five shots since Conor Coady prodded in Everton's 14th minute equaliser.

The onion bag has not been troubled again though.

Two minutes to half time and the opening period has flown by.

  3. Ten Hag's frustrationspublished at 20:43 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2023

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed frustration with his players on a couple of occasions.

He is stood at the edge of his technical area with a stern look on his face.

He was not impressed with Bruno Fernandes when he gave his free-kick away recently and, after that, demanded to know why David de Gea had gone for a long clearance downfield rather than play a pass - admittedly under pressure - to one of his defenders, who were in close proximity.

Poor decision making from Demarai Gray, in a very presentable position but then makes the wrong choice and gives the ball away to a red shirt.

  5. 'Added assurance'published at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2023

    Man Utd 1-1 Everton

    Alan Stubbs
Former Everton defender on BBC Radio Merseyside

The back three definitely does give Everton an added assurance. Conor Coady reads the game so well in a three and it's a surprise Frank Lampard doesn't use it more often.

    Inches, millimetres in fact.

United win the ball back deep in the Everton half and Christian Eriksen almost scores a sensational goal, but a left-footed strike from the edge of the box drifts narrowly over the crossbar.

Jordan Pickford was not stopping that one.

He needs to be careful here.

De Gea seems to have kick-started Everton's season.

Everton have 11 players in their defensive third when United go forward. United have struggled against this style of defence for a long time, let’s see if anything has changed in that respect.

It's end to end action at Old Trafford, like an FA Cup tie. Oh it is.

Everton lose possession allowing United to break forward, but Antony cuts back and the momentum of the attack is lost.

  12. 'Exciting for the neutral, nervy for Everton'published at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2023

    Man Utd 1-1 Everton

    Alan Stubbs
Former Everton defender on BBC Radio Merseyside

It's certainly an open game. You've got Everton attacking one second and in the blink of an eye, the ball is down the other end.

It's an exciting game for a neutral but from an Everton perspective it's a nervy one, too. Plenty of sloppy play is putting them under pressure.

    Oooh, good effort, good save.

Marcus Rashford has space to run from the middle of the park then had a go from range, a really difficult one for Jordan Pickford as it bounces just in front of him, but the England number one keeps his eye on the ball to bat it to safety.

It's a real cheap shot from Bruno Fernandes. He puts his studs down Onana's calf and it's certainly worthy of a yellow card.

Everton have shown a bit more patience in possession and are not trying to force it.

Onana needs to show a bit more composure on the ball, though.
