All of a sudden Southampton seem to have imploded. They've lost their composure, they've lost their centre-half. It's stupid by Caleta-Car.

Jan Bednarek, back at the club after being recalled from his loan spell at Aston Villa comes on in the heart of the Saints defence with Kyle Walker-Peters the man who has to give way.

Duje Caleta-Car got a yellow in the 28th minute then gets another one for a shove on Bruno Guimaraes after bringing down Allan Saint-Maximin.

Two yellows = red. The Saints have to play the last four minutes with only 10.

Lyanco is a very lucky man.

It was a little bit of a flashpoint but as far as I was concerned Guimaraes was flat on his back and Lyanco stood over him and pounded him on his chest to shove him back onto the ground.

It was a needless act.

Newcastle want Lyanco to have a red card, but the Saints man gets away with just a yellow. He challenges Bruno Guimaraes and then pushes down on the Newcastle man when he's lying on the floor.

Allan Saint-Maximin then talks himself into a booking for complaining.

On Southampton's disallowed goal...

It's a big call from VAR. It did strike his arm but it's so unlucky because he didn't know anything about it.

On the Joelinton goal...

He missed a couple of chances earlier on but this time he makes no mistake.

Isak leaves Caleta-Car down the right, cuts into the box and puts a tantalising ball across for Joelinton, who smashes into the side netting.

The Newcastle fans are going wild.

Adam Armstrong was challenging for the ball along with Sven Botman, the VAR official says the ball hit Armstrong's arm just before the ball went in and the goal is ruled out.

That's both sides who have now had a goal disallowed for a handball following a VAR check.

Adam Armstrong's goal does not count. Newcastle still lead 1-0.

At the moment Southampton are in control of this game and Nathan Jones will be a very happy manager, but they need to capitalise on this possession.

Kieran Trippier sees yellow, striding in for challenge but Samuel Edozie is too fast, got their first and the England man gets a yellow card.

Sven Botman does well to head the James Ward-Prowse free-kick away for a corner and Nick Pope claims the follow-up corner.

It's now Newcastle's turn for a double attacking substitute with Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak coming on and off go Callum Wilson and Joe Willock.

Without a doubt the best chance of the evening.

It's great movement from Che Adams, he spins in behind Trippier and he's one-on-one with Pope, bearing down on goal but it's a great save with the left leg.

Southampton are definitely in the ascendancy.

Che Adams shot is again saved by a diving Nick Pope, with Lyanco slicing the follow-up over.

That's twice in three minutes Pope has kept it goalless. It's a good save too, with James Ward-Prowse's free-kick from the right nodded down into Adams' path, he spins, shoots but sees it saved.
