Obviously we're in cup action tonight, but this is how it stands in the Premier League and maybe why Dan (below) has so little faith in his Southampton side.

4-1 to Newcastle tonight, sad to say I'll probably take that as a Saints fan with Jones in charge, whilst wistfully dreaming of what might have been had we gone for Howe ourselves several years ago!

Talk about low confidence in your side at home!

  5. It's been a while...published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2023

Southampton won the EFL Trophy in 2010, but you have to go back to 1976 for their last major success when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final to win the FA Cup.

For Newcastle fans it has been an even longer wait since they got their hands on a major trophy - winning the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (what would now be the Europa League) in 1969.

For a domestic trophy, you have to go back to the 1955 FA Cup final when they beat Manchester City 3-1.

Safe to say that both sets of fans in this semi-final will be desperate to see their side win a trophy this season.

  7. Glory days?published at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2023

    Southampton v Newcastle (20:00 GMT)

It's been a long, long time since Southampton or Newcastle fans could celebrate their team winning a major trophy.

Could this year be glory for one of them?

They are both three games away from winning the Carabao Cup and guaranteeing a place in European competition next season.
