Big chance for Bristol City to open the scoring but Harry Cornick sees two efforts go begging.

George Tanner makes a good break into space down the right and plays it across the pitch to Sam Bell in the box. Bell tees it up for Cornick and his shots are on target but excellently blocked twice by Boro centre-half Darragh Lenihan.

Middlesbrough’s loss to Burnley on Friday – which sealed Vincent Kompany’s side’s promotion back to the Premier League – leaves them in fourth, nine points behind Sheffield United, with automatic promotion surely out of reach now.

Boro lost when they travelled to Bristol last season and the Robins produced a good win against Stoke in their last outing, to move them up to 13th.

The hosts’ are strong at home although their form generally has been inconsistent of late; of their last seven games they’ve won two, lost three and drawn two.
