Sam Bell is causing all kinds of problems down the left for the hosts at the moment.

A graduate of the Robins academy, he's one of a number of home-grown young players Bristol City have in their first-team today.

We're approaching half-time and the tempo has not let up one bit through this first 45 minutes.

Matt Crooks has his head in his hands as he can't quite keep his header from a corner on target.

Bristol City are missing three of their big, tall defenders to injury at the moment and are looking fragile whenever the ball goes up in the air.

Half an hour in and it's Bristol City who are pressing forward more frequently and creating more of the chances.

That being said, Chuba Akpom's header was definitely the best of the half so far.

Bristol City try and catch Boro napping as Matty James takes a corner and pulls it back short to Jay Dasilva.

Rather than cross it in, Dasilva takes a stab at goal from distance and almost bends it into the top corner, but it curls high over the bar.

Nahki Wells loses possesion for the hosts inside their half and Middlesbrough quickly pounce.

It comes to Chuba Akpom on the edge of the box and he tries to get a pass away that would have surely set up Matt Crooks to score, in loads of space, but the Robins defence are quick to block it.

The wind is really whipping around Ashton Gate as Middlesbrough win their first corner.

It's so strong they have to take a few goes at setting it up as every time Jonny Howson puts the ball down, the wind moves it off its marker.

Bristol City clear the danger fairly comfortably.

Bristol City defender Zak Vyner is the first player to go into the referee's book for a late tackle.

Bristol City might not have a huge amount left to play for this season, sitting right in the middle of the table, but ending the campaign strongly is a huge deal for manager Nigel Pearson who has slowly been trying to overhaul and rebuild the club since he took over in February 2021.

After Luton's win this afternoon his side are three points behind the Hatters in fourth as it stands and eight points behind Sheffield United in second, who play later this evening in a blockbuster clash against already promoted Burnley.

Bristol City might be scratching their heads how they're not 1-0 up here.

Harry Cornick takes another strike at goal but it's not the most fierce effort and it's relatively easily saved by Zack Steffen.

Seconds later they break into the box again and Andi Weimann gets lucky, scrambling the ball past the Boro defence into space right in the middle of the box.

He gets his shot away but it goes right at Steffen, who comes off his line and stretches his arms out, when it really should have been in the back of the net.

Oh my word, Chuba Akpom has to bury that.

I don't know whether he's stretching but he's two yards out, near the back post, and he has to put that into the back of the net.

How many times have we seen Chuba Akpom put chances like that in the net?!

Middlesbrough break really dangerously forward as Ryan Giles is picked out in loads of space on the edge of the box.

He pulls it back and crosses it to Akpom, who leaps up and heads it but sends his effort wide of the post.

Really positive start from Bristol City who are looking lively down the right wing and breaking forward these opening few minutes.
