Maguire, De Gea, AWB & Martial need to go. Not up to how ETH wants the side to play and earning top dollar that can be used on decent replacements. All have had far too many chances and blown them.

Brighton v Manchester United (Sunday, 16.30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag speaking ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton:

On whether his squad is playing for its future: "I think we are always playing for our future as professional players. Every game is a test, every season is a test, you have to earn the right to wear the shirt.

"It’s the same for me as a manager. We are in the same boat. During the season we make huge progress. We have the experience but we have a way to go.

"A good thing is that Sunday is a huge opportunity, semi-final of the FA Cup, a better event you can’t imagine. After that we have a lot of great games to go, we have to prove it and this group of players has to prove it."

  5. 'Maguire has an important role'published at 17:39 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag speaking ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton:

  6. 'We can't deny it, it's mental'published at 17:35 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Brighton v Manchester United (Sunday, 16.30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag speaking ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton:

On his team's mentality: "We can’t deny it, it’s mental, definitely, we have to learn that you keep going, you carry on.

"What this team can do very well is bounce back in between games, what they can do less is bounce back during a game to a setback. That is what we have to improve."

  7. 'I don't think about the summer'published at 17:32 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Brighton v Manchester United (Sunday, 16.30 BST)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag speaking ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton:

On what the defeat against Sevilla last night taught him about his team: "In this moment I don’t think about the summer, I’m thinking about improving this team and these players, that’s my job with the coaching staff and the players. We have all our focus on this process and not on other processes, that will distract you.

"I know this group of players can do better, they’ve proved it so many times this season, we’ve made huge progress during the season but we have steps to go. We have a lot of games to play and occasions to prove it."

Mike: Manchester United should let De Gea go at the end of the season. They shouldn't pay him millions more and be dreading each game if he plays like he did against Sevilla yesterday. Thank you but it is time to move on with your future endeavours.

DSSBrooks: I would let De Gea leave in the summer. The side desperately needs to evolve with a new style of play from the back. It just cannot do that if he stays.

I promise you, we will be hearing from Erik Ten Hag at around 17.30 BST.

  11. Bright 'out for weeks' with knee problempublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Chelsea v Barcelona (Tomorrow, 12.30 BST)

It's more bad news for the Lionesses regarding their centre backs ahead of the World Cup, I'm afraid...

Emma Hayes says Chelsea and England defender Millie Bright will remain “out for weeks” with a knee injury.

She hasn’t played since the end of March after coming off in the first leg of Chelsea’s Women's Champions League quarter-final win over Lyon.

That includes their Champions League semi-final tie with Barcelona, the first leg of which takes place at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Here first choice central defensive partner for the Blues, Kadiesha Buchanan, is also out of tomorrow's game.

  13. 'Man Utd are going to show a reaction against Brighton'published at 17:10 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Brighton v Manchester United (16.30 BST)

Despite a chastening defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League, BBC Radio Manchester's Joe McGrath is still confident Manchester United can beat Brightonin the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Manchester United's 3-0 lossto Sevilla on Thursday night leaves the FA Cup as the sole trophy available for Erik ten Hag's side.

McGrath believes a combination of key players returning and having a point to prove will be enough to help the side advance to the final.

"I really think we're going to have a bit of a reaction" McGrath said on The Devils' Advocate podcast. "I think it's going to be a great game of football."

"Ten Hag is going to get his men in shape. He's got to."

Manchester United will be boosted by the return of Bruno Fernandes, who was suspended for the game in Spain.

Marcus Rashford, who was only fit enough to make a substitute appearance against Sevilla, may be ready to start at Wembley.

  14. WSL defends pitch standards after Eidevall warningpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Arsenal defender Leah Williamson receives treatment on the pitch at Leigh Sports VillageImage source, Getty Images

The Women's Super League has defended the standard of pitches after Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall warned poor pitch quality is causing injuries.

England captain Leah Williamson limped off the field in Wednesday's 1-0 defeat by Manchester United, and has now been ruled out of this summer's World Cup with an ACL injury.

Eidevall later said facilities need to improve to "keep players on the pitch".

But a WSL spokesperson said pitches at WSL stadiums are monitored throughout the season with "steps taken" to support clubs where necessary.

The spokesperson said: "We monitor pitch performance at WSL stadiums throughout the season and during this process we take steps to support the clubs when necessary.

"Significant progress has been made in recent seasons with several clubs delivering new hybrid playing surfaces following investment through the Premier League Stadium Fund."

  15. Wrexham's Hollywood finale sparks USA tourism boompublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Wrexham v Boreham Wood (Sat, 18:30 BST)

Wrexham executive director Humphrey Ker with US-based supporter Sarah Jane Gardner

Wrexham is gearing up for one of the biggest weekends in its history as the city's football team - sprinkled with Hollywood glamour - will win the National League title with a win against Boreham Wood.

Wrexham AFC's takeover by star actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has given the non-league side a huge boost.

Businesses are also hoping for a tourist bonanza fuelled by American visitors, such as Sarah Jane-Gardner, an emergency room technician from Portland, Oregon, who flew to the UK last week in the hope of securing tickets for Wrexham's last three matches.

"I just wanted to be a part of the community and experience the tingle in the air when the end of the season wrapped up," Sarah Jane said.

  16. London Stadium 'not a big deal' for West Ham womenpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

In women's football news, West Ham manager Paul Konchesky has said playing at London Stadium is "not a big deal" to his Women's Super League side.

Last month Hammers defender Lucy Parker criticised the club for failing to hold a match for their women's team at the stadium.

West Ham are the only team in the WSL this season not to have played at the same ground used by their men's side.

"It's a big deal to everyone at the moment but not to us," said Konchesky.

"There's ongoing talks and we'll wait for the right time to play there.

"We know that everyone wants to play at the stadiums. Hopefully sooner rather than later this football club and team will play at the London Stadium, then nobody will say anything else about it."

Earlier in April West Ham said they will make hosting a women's game at London Stadium a priority.

The women's team have not played at the home of the 2012 Olympic Games since 2019.

Manchester United flew back from Seville this morning and are due to train later this evening.

Before that, manager Erik ten Hag faces the media.

We are in the unusual location of south-west London because Ten Hag wanted to cut down on travelling time.

After last night's defeat, I reckon he will be delighted to see us.
