Liverpool v Nottm Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Saturday's opponents Nottingham Forest: "It's about Nottingham Forest. It's about showing all the respect we have for them. Forest and Steve Cooper are in a difficult situation, they are fighting for their lives and each point they can grab will be massive. If they can get three it will be super massive and that is the team I expect.

"It is the opposite of a friendly game and that's what we have to be prepared for, but it is at Anfield and we have to use that as well."

Jurgen Klopp on the importance of the Nottingham Forest game: "When you are in a super moment all that is important is the next game and in not a good situation the only game you have to think about is the next game - there is alternative to that and that is exactly what we do. I couldn't care less where we play after tomorrow."

Liverpool v Nottm Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Saturday's Premier League match at home to Nottingham Forest: "It has been a very average season we have had so far and yet we have had some of our highest results in the in club's history, which is strange.

"I said after the Leeds game I thought that was the best game we have played this season.

"It was a very stable performance which is very important and that is what we have to build on.

"I can't guarantee any kind of result but we have to guarantee a performance level and that is what we have to do now.

"We have to be ready for not scoring early and all the difficulties you face in a football game and overcome it.

"I saw our plan the whole game against Leeds and that is what we have to do again."

    • This is the first Premier League meeting between Arsenal and Southampton on a Friday. The Gunners have beaten Saints on the other six days of the week in the competition - but they've never won a Premier League match against a side on all seven days.
    • Southampton are one of the three sides leaders Arsenal have failed to beat in the league this season (alsoNewcastle UnitedandManchester City), with the first meeting at St Mary's in October finishing 1-1.
    • Having won two of their first three league games under Ruben Selles, Saints are now without a victory in their past six, including four defeats. They kept a clean sheet in three of their first four under the Spaniard, but have kept none in their past five while conceding 12 goals.

Southampton are running out of time to fight for their Premier League survival but they will not give up, says Ruben Selles.

Saints sit bottom of the table and four points from safety with seven games to go.

"It has been a desperate situation from the very first second. We are running out of time and the games are less and less from our account," said Selles.

"I'm going to be still here until the very last and I'm going to take everyone with me, with the energy and the know-how. It's a challenge, but I can do it.

"We are not giving any signal that we can be broken. We know we need to be more robust and consistent."

Southampton's next opponents are league leaders Arsenal, who are in a fight of their own to stay top ahead of champions Manchester City.

"We will try to be ourselves, press them, and score goals and try and win the game," Selles said.

Ruben Selles has been speaking to the media before Southampton's Premier League game against Arsenal on Friday.

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • Mislav Orsic has returned to training, but Che Adams and Mohamed Salisu are still sidelined.
    • Tino Livramento played 45 minutes for the B team last week as he steps up his recovery, but is still unavailable for the first team.
    • On Ainsley Maitland-Niles being ineligible to face his parent club, Selles said: "It is what it is, we have players to cover."
    • On whether top versus bottom is a game both sides must win, Selles said: "I see the game as we always see. I see an opponent that we need to beat."
    • Selles said "it has been desperate from the very first second" and added: "We are running out of time."
    • He said it is mathematically possible Saints can avoid the drop and added: "We put some good performances but didn't transform those to points. Hopefully we can change that."
    • Selles wants his side to play on the front foot against the Premier League leaders and said: "We are going to try and press them and win the balls as high as possible to win the game."
    • The "draining" job at Southampton hasn't put Selles off wanting to become a full-time manager and he said: "It's giving me more support to my idea to be a manager."

Feb 2011. Newcastle v Arsenal. Toon were 4-0 down at half-time then clawed and fought their way back to 4-3. Then who can forget Chieck Tiote's thunderous, jaw-dropping volley to level the scores. I recall running round the lounge like a madman, whooping with delight. If Kevin Nolan's shot a few minutes later had squeezed inside the post rather than outside I probably wouldn't be here to tell the tale. Magnificent!

A popular strategy this week will be to use the Free Hit chip, if you still have it remaining, to cover the blank gameweek for Manchester City, Manchester United, Brighton and Chelsea.

Taking a punt on Darwin Nunez, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, Andreas Pereira or Dango Ouattara are good examples in gameweek 32.

I like the idea of having three attacking Arsenal players, picking your trio from Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus, while adding a third Liverpool choice to the obvious selections of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins in the Brentford v Aston Villa game, similarly Alexander Isak and Harry Kane for Newcastle v Tottenham and Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke at home to West Ham, who could be jaded after a Europa League game on Thursday night.

I'm going for Palace's Sam Johnstone as a budget keeper choice on my Free Hit but make sure you have a playing back-up just in case he loses his place to Vicente Guaita.

  14. 'One penalty doesn't define Saka's season'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

Arsenal v Southampton (Fri, 20:00 BST)

    Bukayo SakaImage source, Getty Images

Former Premier League forward Clinton Morrison doesn't want Bukayo Saka's penalty miss against West Ham to define the forward's season "because he's been outstanding for Arsenal".

Mikel Arteta confirmed on Thursday Saka will remain on penalties and said the miss has to be turned into a positive for the 21-year-old "because everyone reacted in an unbelievable way towards him".

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily, Morrison said: "They call him starboy and he's been a starboy this season.

"One penalty doesn't define his season. He's been outstanding, one of their best players, and a top player on that right-hand side with lots of goals and assists.

"Loads of top players have missed penalties - it's how you react after that. I'm sure he will step up and take it if they get a penalty, and put it in the back of the net.

"He's a fantastic player. I don't want that one miss to define his season because he's been outstanding for Arsenal."

Morrison expects the Gunners to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they hostSouthamptonon Friday after successive draws.

"They should get the win at home. It’s vital," he said.

"They are playing a team that is struggling and it should make them favourites. It’s disappointing being 2-0 up twice, but I thought it was a good point at Liverpool because they could have lost that game. The West Ham point was disappointing.

"They’ve got to keep going. They are still in a fantastic position; it’s still in their hands. If you were to ask me now who I think is going to win the Premier League, I’d say Manchester City - because the form they are in at the minute is fantastic."

Probably more trepidation, although being 3-0 down against Barcelona is a pretty desperate situation! I took my son to the Liverpool home leg semi-final of the Champions League - he predicted 4-0 to Liverpool before the match, I wasn't so confident, but the level of delight in that stadium when the 4th went in was amazing!!

Mikel Arteta says the Premier League title race is still in Arsenal's hands and he has backed his side to bounce back from successive draws.

The Gunners boss isn't concerned about recent form, despite throwing away two-goal leads in back-to-back games against Liverpool and West Ham.

Speaking before Friday's game against Southampton, Arteta was asked how confident he is that Arsenal can return to winning ways.

He said: "Very confident. Twists and turns are part of anything you do, especially in football.

"It's not always going to be a linear progression and you have to know that. The way the team reacted was incredibly positive and we want to see that tomorrow night."

On those who doubt Arsenal, Arteta said: "What we can say is that our players have full belief in what we do. We know what is at stake is incredibly beautiful and we want to fight for it.

"It is in our hands and we want to do it.

"We have to focus on what we have and the reasons why we dropped those points. The margins are so small and they have to go your way to get the result you want and also the result you deserve.

"Every game is an opportunity to improve as a team. Every game gives you a gift and that is what you do to learn and improve as a team. We have another gift tomorrow and we have to take it."
