I think that probably benefits Brighton [the stop-start nature of the game] you don't want to let Arsenal get in their stride at home, like we said they've scored three goals in their last six appearances here so I imagine that Mikel Arteta will be quite frustrated with his squad because it seems to be their players that are going down.

Arsenal like giving it out but don't like taking it.

Shame to see this game already shaping up to be a war of attrition. Ref so far apparently saving all his cards for later.

This has been a very stop-start game so far with Jorginho the latest player to be down after taking a whack to his shin after challenging for the ball with Evan Ferguson.

    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

Brighton fans clapped on Leandro Trossard but the goodwill to their former player is short lived as they cheer when he knocks the ball out of play.

Big concern here for Arsenal because Gabriel Martinelli is having to go off. He's still hurting after getting caught by Moisés Caicedo and is replaced by former Seagull Leandro Trossard.

I think that's one battle we're gonna have to watch in this fixture, Enciso and Ben White. Ben White very aggressive, Enciso likes to entice his opponents with tricks and twists.

Julio Enciso plays a delightful ball with the outside of his boot down the flank for Evan Ferguson but he puts the ball out of play under pressure.

Well talk about getting your rewards for taking a risk at the back, Jason Steele, it was so close to being cut out at the back, but eventually Brighton get out right down the other end and Enciso bursts into the 18-yard-box, cuts on to his left foot, goes for Ramsdale's near top corner and the goalkeeper is equal to it.

  11. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

A really nice passing move by Arsenal ends with Martin Odegaard hitting a low shot from outside the box just wide of the post.

No goals yet but both sides have gone close.

Be interesting to see if Brighton do what no other team has done this season and make any sort of effort to close down/mark Odegaard.

Jason Steele is very, very, very lucky.

The Brighton goalkeeper plays a risky pass out of his box and it runs just under the foot of Granit Xhaka.

Brighton then break and only a good save by Aaron Ramsdale denies Julio Enciso.

Both sides could have scored within a couple of seconds.

Billy Gilmour attempts to send Kaoru Mitoma away down the right with a ball through the defence but it is too close to Aaron Ramsdale.

There's been a couple of really heavy challenges already in this game, the latest by Moises Caicedo as he sends Gabriel Martinelli sprawling across the floor.

    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

Arsenal clearly want the early goal to settle a few nerves and their hopes of getting it are being helped by some poor play by Brighton.

Lewis Dunk hits a clearance straight at Bukayo Saka, who quickly finds Martin Odegaard but his backheel inside the area runs through to no-one.

Really interesting the way Arsenal have set up here they're sitting in, in a unit but there's not much space in between the lines, they're not pressing Brighton, they're giving them the respect I think they probably think they deserve.

  18. 'The players are goosed'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 14 May 2023

    FT: Brentford 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes talking to BBC Match of the Day: "We weren't at our best. The first goal took the wind out of us, we didn't start badly. The goal took the edge off us. We've only got ourselves to blame.

"We prepared as best as we can but sometimes when you make so many changes you get inconsistencies and you struggle for rhythm but still you wouldn't expect to give those goals away.

"The players are goosed at the moment. I wanted to give some other players an opportunity to show and the players a chance to rest. It was always going to be needed at some stage along the line."

On the disallowed goal: "It is certainly not deliberate handball. I thought it hit his shoulder and I don't think it is conclusive that it was handball. I was incredibly surprised it wasn't allowed to stand.

"We've had some ridiculously bad decisions in recent games."

    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

The normally reliable Pascal Gross needlessly concedes a corner as he whacks an attempted first-time pass out of play.

Gabriel Martinelli's delivery is headed away by Moises Caicedo, who is playing at right back today.

    FT: Everton 0-3 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a good victory. From the first minute we did really well. Every time we win a game we're a bit closer but Chelsea and Brighton will be tough games.

"We were patient. We expected maybe high pressing [from Everton] but they didn't do it. They can be good in transition, as we saw against Brighton, and every corner looks like it'll be a goal for them. But in general we controlled it really well and scored at the right moments."

On Erling Haaland's goal coming from just his third touch: "It's not easy, playing against Yerry Mina and James Tarkowkski. We need him for these types of games, when we put the ball there, but he doesn't get crazy, he doesn't get desperate."

On the title race: "We've done our duty by beating them at the Etihad. Both teams have had an exceptional season. It was good to win between the Real Madrid games. Now we know two wins from the last three games will be enough."
