I think the West Ham lineup today shows the remarkable integrity of the Premier League everyone would have understood if the rested Rice, Bowen, Paqueta today but they are playing their best team. Great Stuff.

It's not nice to hear that Patrick Bamford has been receiving abuse on social media.

He obviously didn't mean to miss that penalty and to get that kind of backlash is not nice.

I feel sorry for the people that send those types of messages. I've received them and it's so difficult to read them.

    Karen Bardsley

It depends on how well Leeds can stick to the game plan. We've seen them press aggresively in the oppositions final third in the past but I think it could be a low block approach today.

If West Ham have one eye on the Conference League final then it could go Leeds' way today.

  4. 'Back to basics'published at 13:21 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

West Ham v Leeds (13:30 BST)

    Ben Mee
Brentford defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sam Allardyce has gone back to basics and worked on the structure. He wants them to play on the counter, we saw that against Man City.

They need to pick up points and quickly. They need a win today and I think they've got a good chance against a team that exerted a lot of energy on Thursday.

The stadium announcer has just started his pre-match routine by reminding everyone that West Ham are bound for Prague on 7 June in the Europa Conference League final.

David Moyes' side are aiming to win their first trophy since the FA Cup in 1980.

It is fair to say there is more interest from fans hoping to go to the Czech Republic than the Hammers ticket allocation for the game, which is just under 5,000..

West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: "Leeds' position means it is a bit do-or-die for them and we are aware of that.

"I want to see a better performance than last week. It will be a difficult game."

Pete Stones: Would the West Ham fans forgive Moyes if Bowen or Rice get injured and miss the final?

Dean Plumley: Hopefully Bamford gets his confidence back and proves a point. But it's win or bust time for my Leeds.

Sam Allardyce spent four seasons as West Ham manager, from 2011 to 2015, guiding the club back to the Premier League and the first attempt, then securing three mid-table top flight finishes.

Allardyce was axed a year before West Ham left Upton Park for the London Stadium.

His win percentage of 37.57% was decent but the Hammers faithful never really took to him.

I think it's worth pointing out that of the bottom 6 clubs, the 2 teams that are now safe are the clubs (West ham and forest) who kept faith in their managers when the going got tough.

    Tom, Ireland

This is West Ham that Leeds are playing, not Brentford, Brighton or Villa. The Hammers have lost more matches than won or drawn this season, plus for the last three years they've not even had a recognised striker.

I was at Brentford on the final day of last season, when Leeds started in the relegation zone but won their match as Burnley lost to escape from trouble.

The jubilation amongst the visitors that day is replaced by trepidation again.

Winning this game is not essential for Leeds but if they don't, they will be in the same situation this season as they were last when they play Tottenham next Sunday.

It is the equivalent of playing with fire. It can be quite exciting when it goes well but eventually, you get burnt.

Levi Colwill (fatigue) and Joel Veltman (thigh) have recovered to return to the defence, while midfielder Alexis Mac Allister and forward Julio Enciso are also back in the starting XV.

Evan Ferguson will lead the line, instead of Danny Welbeck, who drops to the bench.

Subs: McGill, Welbeck, Undav, Ayari, Gilmour, Van Hecke, Buonanotte, Moran, Peupion

Leeds boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports on keeping an eye on other results in relegation battle: "You can't get away from it, no matter what. At the end of the day it has always been the same. If we want to stay in the league we want to win these two games. We want to play as well as we did last week but just cut out the errors.

"Substitutes play a big part today when you have five. Hopefully if and when we make a change they improve us to a level where we want to get the win today."

Pete Stones: A strong West Ham team might just focus the Leeds players' minds.

Dommy Yen: It's game day! No Downes or Aguerd in the squad. No starts for Cornet or Lanzini either. Would have liked to see Mubama start over Ings but that's never gonna happen. Bowen needs a rest imo but otherwise a stronger line-up than expected. COYI!

I have been at quite a few Football Writers' lunches when David Moyes and Sam Allardyce, who were then at Everton and Bolton, spent ages talking football over a glass of wine.

That will be happening at the London Stadium this afternoon once their respective media commitments are done judging by Moyes' programme notes.

"'Big Sam' has been a close colleague of mine for many years," he said.

"I am thrilled to see him back in football and look forward to enjoying a glass of wine with him after today's game."

Leeds need to hope that West Ham players are focusing on their cup final more than today to get any result that’s will help their relegation hopes.
