A lovely moment before kick-off as Reading boss Kelly Chambers is celebrated for her 20 years at the club.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes was stood with a bunch of flowers at the end of a guard of honour by both sets of players.

Chambers and Hayes are the two longest serving current managers in the league and are good friends.

They will need to set that aside today because there's a lot at stake for their teams.

It's exactly what we want. We want the title to go down to the wire, we want relegation to go down to the wire. I'm sure Reading or Leicester fans won't feel the same way but that's what we want - to see it go to the wire.

Emma Hayes said in her press conference that today will be 'business as usual' for Chelsea [winning the title on the final day, and I think that just sums up how good they have been.

If they win it will be their fourth consecutive title, they are the dominant force in English women's football.

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

If I'm being completely honest, I don't think there is going to be much help for Reading today against Chelsea.

They are an absolute immovable force, object train, whichever adjective you'd like to use.

They just [always] come into this insane goalscoring form at the business end of the season.

I have a really bad feeling about what today could end up looking like for Reading.

    Reading v Chelsea (14:30 BST)

Chelsea are looking to win the WSL for the sixth time, which would be twice as many championships as any other side. The Blues have already won the competition in each of the last three seasons.

I think Man Utd have shown progress. They could potentially win the league. They missed out on the Champions League on the last day of last season, but they've already wrapped things up.

I think fans may feel because they were top for so long it's disappointing, but this is progress.

  10. 'Just a matter of time before they claim silverware'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

    Liverpool v Man Utd (14:30)

    Vicki Sparks
BBC commentator, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Manchester United will be incredibly pleased with their season [whatever the result today].

They pushed Chelsea all the way in the FA Cup final, they've qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history - and let's not forget that the side only reformed really in 2018.

But United are not content to sit at the bottom of that so-called 'Big Four', they want to push on to win trophies.

If they win [the league] today then it will be remarkable, but it is only a matter of time before they win that first major trophy.

  11. Man City set for fourthpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

Man City v Everton (14:30 BST)

Manchester City could sneak into the top three and qualify for the Champions League today...but it would require an unlikely 11-goal swing.

The Citizens, in fourth, host midtable Everton, while third-placed Arsenal are at home to Aston Villa.

City are three points behind the Gunners and need to win and hope Villa can do them a huge favour.

It seems very improbably, City look set to finish outside of the top three for the first time since 2015.

  12. 'Emma Hayes should be proud'published at 14:24 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

Reading v Man Utd (14:30 BST)

    Anita Asante
Former Chelsea defender on BBC Two

[Chelsea have been] extremely impressive. Especially off the back of this season. They've come together as a team. You've seen people like Guro Reiten really stepping up.

Emma has to be proud of what they have done with such a close run for the title. This team is a successful machine. There's players that want to play on the biggest stage and I think the way they've done it is with mental resilience. They will continue to work hard to make sure they are the team that comes out on top.

There will be nerves [for Reading] for sure. I've been through this when I was at Villa, with a relegation battle, but they have nothing to lose. They can't worry about what's going on around them and they have to focus on getting a result.

  13. 'This title will have been the hardest for Chelsea'published at 14:23 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

    Reading v Chelsea (14:30 BT)

    Siobhan Chamberlain
Ex-England and Man Utd goalkeeper on BBC One

When you are champions everyone wants to beat you, everyone wants to win their game. If they win it [the WSL title], this will have been the hardest one for Chelsea because of how competitive the league has been. To still go and win this, when they haven't been at their best is credit to Chelsea and credit to Emma Hayes.

  14. 'Mammoth task ahead of Reading'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

    Reading v Chelsea (14:30 BST)

    Jenna Schillaci
Former Spurs captain on Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Reading have got a mammoth task ahead of them.

If you just look at Chelsea's starting lineup and bench the bench alone, they are on the cusp of achieving something special again.

It is a massive task for Reading against a Chelsea team who can't stop scoring at the minute - Reading have to keep a clean sheet if they are going to get anything out of this.

More importantly, Reading are going to have to get goals, which they have also struggled with.

The sprinklers are out at the Broadfield Stadium, where Leicester's players have headed in second after completing their warm-ups, exchanging a few first-bumps and looking like a group who are relaxed but determined to complete the job of securing WSL safety.

On the other side of the pitch, Brighton mascot Gully - boasting a striking orange mop on top of his head - is posing for photos as the crowd fills out the main stand and three sides of the ground.

The giant bird received one or two bemused looks when he attempted to tap at a laptop belonging to a Leicester representative, hampered by his furry costume as he tested the keypad.

Seagulls fans are entitled to relax at the end of a turbulent season and their cheeky cheerleader is clearly enjoying himself.

Liverpool manager Matt Beard speaking to BBC Sport: "We want to finish strong. we have been good at Prenton Park, especially in the second half of the season. We have had a good year and hopefully we finish with a strong performance."

On a send-off for players who are departing: "Everyone that's leaving they are a big part of the group. It's part of the game and we wish them all the best for the future."

  17. 'Fine margins have undone Man Utd in the end'published at 14:20 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

Liverpool v Man Utd (14:30 BST)

    Vicki Sparks
BBC commentator, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester United's only two defeats this season in the Women's Super League have been against Chelsea - they are the fine margins.

In isolation over the season Marc Skinner may be able to point at moments and say 'those were the fine margins', but if they win today [v Liverpool], they have done everything they can all the way to the end.

As long as they do what they can do today, then I think the mood will be positive.

If they don't win the title it will be that Chelsea have just been that bit more outstanding [in the end].

  18. Unstoppable away form meets home win record-chaserspublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

Liverpool v Man Utd (14:30 BST)

Manchester United have won eight of their 10 away WSL matches this season (D1 L1) and have won their three away games against newly promoted teams in their WSL history, beating Spurs in 2019/20, Aston Villa in 2020/21 and Leicester in 2021/22.

Liverpool have won six home Women’s Super League games this season, the most by a newly promoted side in a season ever, overtaking the five by Spurs in 2019/20. With three wins in a row currently, they are looking to become the third promoted side to win four consecutive home games, along with Sunderland in 2015 and Man Utd in 2019/20.

  19. 'Hard to see Chelsea slipping up'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

    Reading v Chelsea (14:30 BST)

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I can't see Chelsea slipping up to be honest.

Reading have done very well with the resources that they have been given.

You have seen in the last few seasons that the manager Kelly Chambers has drained every ounce of talent out of this squad with what she has been given.

We've see Reading take teams like Manchester United to the wire - they had to pull out a late winner in the dying moments to continue their title challenge.

I imagine we will see a counter-attacking approach from them today, trying anything to try and get a result. But ultimately they need a win and I don't see Chelsea giving them one.

    Reading v Chelsea (14:30 BST)

This is where everything could take place today and it's been busy around the ground all morning.

Reading need to win or they are relegated - no matter what happens elsewhere.

If Chelsea win, they wrap up a fourth successive WSL title - no matter what happens elsewhere.

It means most of the country's media have flocked to Reading in anticipation.

BBC Sport and Sky Sports had several pitchside camera crews set up when I arrived before midday.

Captain captain Magdalena Eriksson - playing her last match for the club today - and team-mate Melanie Leupolz did some interviews.

Scotland internationals Emma Mukandi and Erin Cuthbert, who are rivals today, had a quick catch-up near the tunnel.

And I went for a lovely walk along the canal to get here!
