It's a close one but I'd say Kane is a better footballer than Haaland. You can guarantee Kane would post the same numbers in that City team plus his all round game is more advanced.

Tottenham go looking for a quick reply.

Harry Kane knocks a corner short and the ball in causes a bit of uncertainty in the Brentford box, but the Bees do eventually clear their lines.

All those missed chances from Tottenham in the first half...

You always felt Brentford had a goal in them after the break and they haven't messed around.

It was scored right in front of their fans too.

Brentford hit back early in the second half!

It's a great finish by Bryan Mbeumo, firing in after a slick move featuring half-time substitute Mikkel Damsgaard.

Spure are quickly made to rue their missed first-half chances.

It really is quite incredible that Harry Kane has 28 league goals this season, and yet has no hope of beating Erling Haaland to the Golden Boot.

All despite the season Spurs have had too. An achievement that really cannot be overstated.

Re: Jamie at 13:22. It is Spurs who have underachieved not Kane. Multiple Golden Boots including at World Cups. Club and country leading goalscorer and surely leading Premier League scorer soon. Haaland won't be in the Premier League in two seasons I'd wager.

Long term or even medium term there doesn't seem to be a plan at Tottenham.

I don't think the next two games are going to define whether the season hasn't been good enough - use whatever description you want, it has not been good enough.

There does not seem to be a clear plan going forward.

You liken them to Chelsea, bottom half of the Premier League, but at least they have someone in place [for next season]. With Spurs we're almost two months down the line and they still haven't recruited anyone.

Of course you want to get the right manager in, but every time they seem to be in talks with someone the individual seems to distance themself, which isn't a great sign.

  11. Reds four set for send-offpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

Liverpool v Aston Villa (15:00 BST)

    Shamoon Hafez
    BBC Sport at Anfield

A glorious day on Merseyside sees the sun set on four Liverpool players who have seen a glittering period of success under Jurgen Klopp.

Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be bidding farewell to Anfield today and will be given a deserved send-off by the home supporters at full-time in the last home game of the campaign.

"For those four, I have nothing but the very best wishes," Klopp writes in his programme notes. "If we had the space, I could take page after page listing the moments that they gave us, the qualities that they brought and the collective that they have been part of.

"But the best way of measuring the contribution is much more straightforward because it can be found in the respect that they have earned from their team-mates staff and our supporters."

For those who like their stats, that Harry Kane goal had an expected goals (xG) value of just 0.039.

Certainly one to catch later on Match of the Day.

As it stands, Spurs will move up one place to sixth, two points above Brighton in the race for a Europa League spot. They will have played two games more than the Seagulls however.

That was some strike from Harry Kane.

Dejan Kulusevski's knock moved the ball just enough to the right for Kane to curl in, leaving David Raya helpless.

Tottenham have been the better team and they should be further ahead. There was an encouraging applause by the fans at the whistle. They have enjoyed it so far but a 1-0 lead is not a strong one against a good Brentford team who usually perform well in the second half.

Son Heung-min has been excellent by the way. Every time he gets the ball he's making something happen. He will be frustrated not to have scored.

All this talk of Kane wanting Shearer's record and that he'll be happy with that alone and no trophy. Nonsense. Waste of a career when compared to the actual greats. Plus Haaland is going to destroy Shearer's record in a few years anyway and have several trophies to show for it, including a Treble. Time to see Kane as a massive underachiever.

Dejan Kulusevski is in again but David Raya produces the save.

The final action of the first half will be a corner to Spurs, but Raya comfortably catches.

The hosts go in at the break a goal up, thanks to Harry Kane's spectacular strike.

On second viewing, that really is top defending by Ben Mee to get himself in front of Son Heung-min's shot.

It's Mee who once again gets in the way as Dejan Kulusevski runs at goal.

Spurs are sensing a second before the break.

Tottenham are so much better playing 4-2-3-1 than the awful 3-4-3 under Conte. Much more attacking and entertaining.

    Kevin W

Good to see Spurs not playing a back five and having players in their best positions for a change. Bissouma could have a big year next season.
