Prediction: Levy will offer Kane the manager’s job and Kane will fall for the con. Bizarre loyalty he shows to Spurs.

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

It's whipped in towards Ethan Pinnock at the back post but there's just a bit too much height on the cross. Brentford get the throw-in though and can maintain some pressure.

  3. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Yves Bissouma is penalised for a foul on Yoane Wissa and it hands Brentford a chance to whip a cross into the box.

What can they do with this?

Is that Harry Kane's first ever free kick goal ? Finally, well done fella!

    Damien

A beautiful goal from Harry Kane and I’m a Brentford fan.

    Dan, Leatherhead

Maybe that's his parting gift. A free kick at last.

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

It's all Spurs again in possession, with Brentford absorbing pressure and looking to spring a counter.

A cross towards Harry Kane almost falls perfectly for the striker but Ben Mee is able to do enough. The hosts have started really brightly.

  6. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Kevin Schade does brilliantly to drive in from the left, causing Spurs all kinds of trouble.

He gets the better of Davinson Sanchez and drills in a low cross but Spurs have enough bodies back to cut it out.

  7. 'Toney ban will have a huge impact'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It will have a huge impact on his career.

The timing of the ban is strange - it will have an impact of the clubs trying to achieve targets in these next two or three games. To me it would have made sense to have the ban after the end of the season.

It is a ban that I probably expected, I don't think that it is too heavy. We know that you can't do it - the rules are there for every Premier League footballer at the beginning of every season, you are told.

There's also the fact that gambling is promoted so heavily in the sport and plays such a huge part financially in the sport. So then that sticks with me a bit, for someone to be banned for such a length of time [when gambling is so visible].

  8. CLOSE!published at 11 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Brentford have woken up a bit since Tottenham's opener, but they almost find themselves two down!

Harry Kane picks out the run of Son Heung-min, but David Raya comes out and does well to close down the angles. Good save.

That is a Premier League record for Harry Kane, who scores in a 25th different game this season.

It's also his 28th league goal this season.

All the talk before the match was about his future, but it's business as usual as far as Kane is concerned.

  10. 'One of our own'published at 12:39 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

"Harry Kane, he's one of our own" was the chant as Tottenham lined up the free-kick and as soon as he hit it, you knew it was in.

This day very much feels like Kane's.

It's his 300th start for the club in the Premier League and with speculation surrounding his future, the home fans are keen to remind him how much they love him.

He enjoyed that just as much as they did, running over to celebrate with the fans to his right.

    Oh that is just delightful!!

Harry Kane could not hit this any better.

Dejan Kulusevski rolls the ball for Kane who sends his first-time strike perfectly into the top corner.

His name rings around the stadium. Pure class.

  12. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

Now then, Spurs have a free-kick in a useful position here.

Frank Onyeka commits a foul around 25 yards from goal, almost dead central.

    Harry Kane stands over it.

  13. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

A first half-chance for Harry Kane, but there's not enough behind his attempt.

    It's nice and open!

  14. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

It's been mostly Spurs in possession, but Brentford can break so quickly and they show a glimpse of what they'll try to do today with a slick counter that results in Bryan Mbeumo shooting well off target.

  15. 'Kane's goals and records are his trophies'published at 12:33 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

    Tottenham v Brentford (12:30 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I know how much Harry Kane wants the Premier League goalscoring record, he's told me! He's desperate for that.

I get the accusation that he hasn't won a trophy but those goals and those records he has set are his trophies. That's why I see him staying at Tottenham [next season].

It's slightly different to when I returned to Newcastle, as I already had a Premier League medal from my time at Blackburn. But he'll have a statue, he's got the club goalscoring record, he'll have the Premier League goalscoring record, he's had an unbelievable career!

I don't lose sleep because I only ever won one trophy in my career, and I bet Kane will feel the same come the end of his career, [he'll be satisfied].

    Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

It's a sunny day down in London and Brentford have got a good crowd with them. They are singing away in the corner. They have plenty to celebrate this season and with nothing in jeopardy, this is very much a day out on the other side of the city for them.

  17. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

Spurs get on the ball and knock it around calmly at the back despite plenty of chasing from the Brentford front line.

Dejan Kulusevski then does well to make space on the right, but his low cross is too close to David Raya.

  18. KICK-OFFpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

It's a lovely day for football in north London. Let's hope for a thrilling game to match.

    Tottenham v Brentford (12:30 BST)

    Chris Sutton
    Former Chelsea striker

    Tottenham v Brentford graphic

I've got my past three predictions right about Tottenham but I still really don't know what to expect from them.

Do Spurs really want to be in the Europa Conference League next season? That's what they will get if they finish seventh, and it can't be much of an incentive.

Tottenham's interim head coach Ryan Mason has indicated he wants the job permanently but he hasn't done anything since taking charge which makes you think 'blimey, he can take them to the next level'.

That might sound harsh, but that's the way it seems to me.

Brentford will be without England striker Ivan Toney following his ban. He scored when they drew 2-2 with Spurs earlier in the season but I can still see the Bees getting something from this game without him.

    Prediction: 1-1

  20. How the teams line uppublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

Here come the players. Harry Kane has a steely, business-like expression as he walks out from the tunnel.

Here's a quick reminder of the team-news before we get under way.
