I think Nick's being a little over-sensitive over "little Luton". I don't think it's that pundits are being patronising or condescending in any way. They're just expressing the thoughts of many people: Brighton are a very good, established PL side who have reached Europe, Luton are the new boys. That Luton are (or were, at least) holding Brighton off is impressive, unexpected and commendable.

Maupay can't hold the ball up, can't run and most importantly can't score. How Everton are starting a season with him up top again is baffling, he costs them far too many games

Steve Sidwell
Former Villa and Brighton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live
Luton were outstanding in the first half, very dilligent and disciplined. Waited to get on the ball and attack on transition.
Brighton had to be patient, take their time to break down this Luton side. But eventually they got the chance through March and punished them to go into the break ahead.
Arsenal 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to BT Sport: "It's always difficult to win the first game of the season. We deserved to be in front but we didn't kill the game. And 2-0 in the Premier League is a dangerous scoreline and we had a lack of concentration, conceded a goal, and so it is game on.
"You cannot give teams anything and we gave them hope. Then the feeling is we want the game to end and take the three points.
"Eddie Nketiah was very disappointed he did not start [the Community Shield] against Manchester City but came on and had a huge impact, trained like a beast this week, telling me 'I have to play'. So I had to play him. A great example."
Arsenal 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Forest manager Steve Cooper to BT Sport: "I was disappointed with elements of our game in the first half. Structurally we were good but I didn't like us on the goals - we should have defended those much better.
"I didn't love that we didn't back ourselves in the duels. I showed some clips to the lads at half time - we needed to believe, back ourselves and compete.
"The real chance in the first half was Brennan Johnson's from open play. The plan was going to plan with our counterattacks but we needed to compete more. So it is a game of 'what might have been'.
"I'm surprised the Declan Rice handball in the challenge with Willy Boly wasn't checked by VAR. For me they let the referee down there."
HT: Sheff Utd 0-0 Crystal Palace
Harry De Cosemo
BBC Sport at Bramall Lane
Not a great game, this.
Eze has been good to watch but Crystal Palace haven’t made their dominance count.
Feels like the game has bypassed Sheffield United in midfield. Their little joy has come through getting the ball in behind early. But Johnstone has been untested.
Arsenal 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Arsenal goalscorer Eddie Nketiah to BT Sport: "We had a really good start but they crept back in it - they made some changes which helped. It was a nervy finish but we deserved the three points.
"It was a great bit of skill by Martinelli to set me up and I was happy with the strike and we know Saka has that kind of quality - we are really happy to have him in our team.
"Everyone wants to play and everyone needs to be ready to play - so it's a good start for me and the team. You never know when you will get an opportunity but I'm pleased with my contribution.
"I grew up a supporter of the club - this is my home - so it's amazing to hear the fans singing my name at the end."

Luton have given it a go. Morris had their best chance when he really should have scored.
Sheff Utd 0-0 Crystal Palace
Another game goalless at half time.
Premier League football is back...
Everton 0-0 Fulham
No goals, but Everton have had plenty of chances.
Brighton 1-0 Luton
Luton are in this, but they trail thanks to Solly March's header.
Brighton have been the better side but they're far from home and dry.
Bournemouth 0-0 West Ham
Not much to shout about.
West Ham hit the post, Bournemouth tested Alphonse Areola a couple of times.
A game in need of someone taking it by the scruff of the neck.
Sheff Utd 0-0 Crystal Palace
Oliver Norwood has a go from distance for Sheffield United. He gets plenty behind the shot but it is straight at Sam Johnstone.
That's Sheffield United's first attempt on target.
Brighton 1-0 Luton
Luton keep creating chances.
Most of them have fallen to Carlton Morris.
He rises highest in the middle but can only tamely nod wide.
Brighton 1-0 Luton
Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on Final Score
This is what is going to be like a lot of the time for Luton. They are gong to be under pressure for large spells. They have to expect this week in, week out.
If you are a centre-back, you should enjoy this.
Everton 0-0 Fulham
Just a couple of minutes to go until the break and Fulham are yet to manage a shot on target.
Everton should really have put away one of their many chances.

Nick is spot on in his comment. Luton are in the Prem on merit and will be cheered on by neutrals as a second team.
Graham
Christopher: Bowen booked for absolutely nothing. Webb's new no-nonsense instruction to refs is going to result in lots of ridiculous red cards this season
This is the same Welbeck we had at Man Utd. He will take one chance today but he will have had dozens of clear cut ones.

Brighton 1-0 Luton
Kaoru Mitoma is shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away after failing to get in behind a defender. It's tame but those are the new rules.
Everton 0-0 Fulham
Big chance!
Neal Maupay is in after breaking between the two central defenders but his stabbed effort is pushed away by Bernd Leno.
Alex Iwobi tries to turn in the loose ball but can only poke wide but goes down under a challenge. The Everton fans want a penalty but once again the decision does not go in their favour.
