MJ: If Van Dijk was a red last week how was that challenge by the Sheffield United player [Ahmedhodzic] not worthy of similar punishment?

So why was that only a yellow and not a red? Same place as VVD last week v Newcastle...

Both sides fancy the win here. Yaseer Larouci has a chance for Sheffield United from a tight angle on the left side of the penalty area but he can only send it into the stand behind the goal.

Sheffield United have a couple of players limping and Everton have taken advantage of that.

A quality delivery into the box. Terrific ball in from Nathan Patterson and well finished from Arnaut Danjuma.

A great game no-one could've expected. There comes goal number four.

Beto, again instrumental, plays it wide right to Nathan Patterson and his low cross is turned in at the back post by Arnaut Danjuma to send the away fans wild.

Beto skips away down the right wing, is adjusted to have just kept the ball in before delivering a cross that is sent behind for a corner.

Beto then meets the set-piece with a header, but can only steer it wide. Sheffield United are playing a dangerous game at the back with Jack Robinson nearly ripping the shirt off Jarrad Branthwaite's back before the corner came in, but nothing given.

Is Graham Potter up to anything atm? Asking for an Everton fan..

    Andy

Pickford being picked (no pun intended) by Southgate for England every time even though he just flaps at shots is crazy. He plays for a club in crisis as well! Sam Johnstone is much more robust.

Arnaut Danjuma goes low with the direct free-kick but it's a poor choice as the ball bounces off the wall for a throw-in.

It is a blatant pull back, it has given the referee something to think about, they are putting themselves under pressure Sheffield United.

    Sheffield United 2-1 Everton

Everton get a free-kick right on the edge of the area as Anel Ahmedhodzic grabs the shoulder of Arnaut Danjuma.

Very, very close to conceding a penalty. Ahmedhodzic knew what he was doing and deservedly gets a yellow card for his deliberate foul.

And we're back. No changes from either boss. Beto looks to snatch an equaliser within seconds as he races through but shoots wastefully wide.

Excellent that Archer looks comfortable and settled in. Can't go - recovering with pneumonia at home but the Blades are cheering me up

Great game so far, end to end lacks some quality but all in all a good watch. Everton are their own worst enemies again, Sheffield UTD good on the counter attack.

Sean Dyche has a big half-time team talk to give now. His side took the lead but failed to build on it.

United scored on the stroke of the interval and now have something to on to.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 2 September 2023

The hosts lead at the break. Everton scored their first league goal of the season with Abdoulaye Doucoure netting from close range, before Cameron Archer, on his first Premier League start, scored to make it 1-1.

Archer then saw his shot rebound off the post off Jordan Pickford and into the net for the Blades' second. Everton heading for a fourth successive Premier League loss as it stands.
