Oooh, Arsenal and David Raya are VERY lucky.

The hosts are closed down as they try to play out from the back and the ball is played back to Raya, who takes too long to clear and his kick is blocked by Julian Alvarez. The ball deflects into the sidenetting but it could very easily have gone into the open goal.

  12. 'Some progression and a lot of work to do'published at 16:30 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    FT: Wolves 1-1 Aston Villa

    Wolves

Wolves boss Gary O'Neil, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "A little bit disappointed with the result. When you go 1-0 up and you are controlling the game. I didn't feel there was much danger. There was a bit early and we needed to get to grip with things. Sa had to make a couple of saves but in the second half I don't remember him having to do anything really. We had two big chances. We had decent control until the sending off. After that we were hanging on."

On Mario Lemina's red card: "I don't remember the first booking. The second one, you expect a yellow. I feel for Mario a bit. We had pressed unnecessarily and left him in a spot he shouldn't be in. He has a decision to make on whether he lets the guy run through or tries to stop the attack. Disappointed that we lose him. Up to that point, I thought the lads were very good. Still loads of room for improvement. Villa are a good side and we were a match at least."

On Pedro Neto: "He has been fantastic for us, a big threat. The reason we put him that side today was because we thought he could cause a big threat. He was excellent but there were other good performances. The back three were good again. Good performance. A game I'd have liked to take more control of but a decent point."

Is he happy with where Wolves are at? "I think the points return has been good for the games we have had. The fixtures were tough. In general, we are in a good spot points return wise. The last two games have looked a lot more like how we prepped for. Some progression and a lot of work to do."

  13. Arsenal face biggest testpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

Arsenal v Man City (16.30 BST)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal celebrated their Community Shield win over Manchester City at Wembley in the manner of a statement victory - but this the real thing and a far more accurate measure of how the sides compare.

Manchester City lost at Wolves in their last league game so will Arsenal feel the backlash?

You just get the feeling we will know a lot more about the shape of the season when this one ends.

  14. 'Frustrating & probably a hangover from midweek'published at 16:27 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    FT: West Ham 2-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Sport: "A frustrating game for us. Probably a hangover from midweek. A really good response in the second half but we're frustrated not to get over the line.

"I think we did really well in the second half, showed great character to come back. We took control of the game, caused problems, created chances.

"[Alexander] Isak's hat-trick opportunity was probably the defining moment. He's an outstanding player, the first in particular is an outstanding finish. He is unlucky not to score the third but they are the small margins."

On whether Nick Pope should have done better for the opening goal: "I prefer to focus on the save at the end. It has got us a point really. Nick has been magnificent in recent weeks and he has certainly played his part in our run of clean sheets.

"I think there's disappointment late in the game but maybe, when the dust settles, we'll look at it differently. It depends on the next results for us."

  15. 'How will City deal without Rodri?'published at 16:25 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

Arsenal v Man City (16:30 BST)

    John Murray
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

It really feels like here is the place to be today.

I do think, on a serious point, it is a reminder about what we have got. For the Premier League, it is all about being played in the conditions in this country. This is what we have got and we should cherish it.

It is a quite hard one to call. How City deal without Rodri is one of the big questions of the day.

  16. 'So many dimensions to City'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

Arsenal v Man City (16:30 BST)

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on Football Focus

I think we will see come the end of the season if the gap is closing between Man City and the chasing pack. What they can do better than any other team is adapt in negative situations, whether that be suspensions, injuries, with the depth in quality that they have in their squad and the variety of formations and ways of playing, they can cope with almost anything. A couple of years ago they adapted to not having a striker, played without one entirely, and won the league playing that way. Now they go and have a big number nine up front in Erling Haaland, but they can also keep him on the bench if needs be and still win games. There are just so many ways that this City team can win games regardless of their situation.

  17. 'We had chances to win'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    FT: Brighton 2-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk speaking to Sky Sports: "We came here to win. I think we had opportunities to do so and in the end a draw, after a difficult game. Quite open at times. Quite even but looking at our team, we had opportunities to win."

On Brighton's first goal: "Obviously, it is not only him [Mac Allister]. It is me as well. It is a risky ball and we try to play out from the back. These things happen and you get punished. The way we bounced back as a great reaction."

How important does Salah continue to be? "He is. Obviously. He is a very important member of the team on the pitch and off the pitch. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to get the win."

Were you thinking about the potential Brighton red card? "Not really. On the pitch you are thinking about this and you have to be careful for asking if was going to get sent off. I was curious for the reason why he didn't get a booking. I didn't see any replays on the pitch. We win the penalty, we score the penalty and the ref didn't give a yellow or a red. We have to accept it."

Brighton's leveller: "Miscommunication. He heard a shout and it wasn't. It was a miscommunication and e don't want to make mistakes. Overall I am proud of my team and we have to get through the international break and then back for a very interesting couple of games."

  18. 'Arsenal aren't far off'published at 16:21 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

Arsenal v Man City (16:30 BST)

    Sebastien Bassong
Former Spurs defender on BBC 5 Live

They will be thinking that a game like today can fill their glass up. A game like today, you can lose it because of the injuries.

But I think the thing with Arsenal is that there is a real question mark, even though they don't want to say it.

I think there are a lot of positives, definitely, but there are a lot of things they can do better. With the injuries, Martinelli and Saka, they don't have [these] last season.

I think it is really positive, there are still things to do better and still, they are only one point behind City.

  19. 'Our team vibe is very positive'published at 16:17 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    FT: Wolves 1-1 Aston Villa

    Wolves

Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan, speaking to Premier League Productions: "Unfortunately, we didn't win at home. In the second half we had a few good chances. We both played well. We wanted the win but couldn't get it. This game was very tough but we get a very important point. We just look forward to the next game. We have the international break and we get a good rest.

"He [Pedro Neto] is amazing. We understand each other very well. Not just with Neto, but with Cunha and every team player. Our team vibe is very positive. We keep going and try to manage our game. We are going a good way.

"I scored five at the moment. Most important thing is for the team to win. Last week was a big win. We are hungry and can do better. So far we have done very well. We need to keep going like that and get more points."

Today is a great opportunity for Nelson, Smith-Rowe to push their claims for regular game time. Nobody thinks Arsenal will get anything against Man City, so Arteta should give them most of the second half to show what they can do
