Simon: Everyone moaning about consistency needs to be realistic. Unless you want every single contact of ball to hand to be a penalty, then every decision is subjective and therefore people will disagree. VAR hasn't changed this. It's just different people being subjective

Whatever referees do they will always be wrong. We've got to the point where us as fans and also pundits scrutinise every single decision. Maybe we should just stick to talking about football?

Mike: I think VAR is a reason for poor referees. They are afraid. It’s almost certainly better to make no decision and be corrected. Especially line person who is reduced only to judging throw ins.

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It just comes to that stage in the game where if Everton do manage to get up the pitch and get a set piece, it could get a little bit twitchy for Liverpool.

It has been domination from them for the majority of the half, but it could get nervy if they don't find that second goal.

Is there a top league in Europe that has officials this poor and inconsistent season upon season? No. Laughable to call them "professionals"

    AL

I'm sure the reaction to the refereeing decisions today will be as proportionate to those when a "big" club had decisions go against them!

    Olly

Ian: Premier League football, billion dollar players, two-bob officials.

Andy: A massive deal was made of the Spurs game, a monumental mistake, but it was a mistake! What will be made of a referee deciding not to be consistent??

Neil: The fantastic game that we had called football in England is being made a laughing stock by all of the officials at the PGMOL , the majority of them are absolutely useless. Pawson being one of the worst

Pep Guardiola has been asked by TV about dropping Ederson to the bench. The Manchester City boss says he is giving the keeper a "little rest" after he appeared for Brazil in Uruguay on Wednesday.

His replacement Stefan Ortega is making his first Premier League start since a 1-1 draw at Brighton on 24 May.

Time running out for Everton to get something out of this game.

Liverpool have had the ball for the entire half, understandably, and the 10-man visitors haven't got much left in the tank now.

I’m not sure what I’m more angry about. The ref having no guts to give Konte a 2nd yellow or Dyche taking off all attacking options before we eventually went 1 down.

    Alex

Another gift for Liverpool. Worst refereeing decisions cost us over and over.

Paul: They just won’t get away with having their arms out like that these days. They may not mean to handle blah blah but surely they know how it works by now surely? That was always going be a penalty and is absolute stupidity from Michael Keane.

It's one of those handballs where the attacking team will always complain if it's not given and the defending team will always complain if it is. That's where consistency in refereeing decisions becomes critical.

Mohamed Salah has either scored or assisted in each of his last 13 Premier League appearances at Anfield.

Only Alan Shearer (runs of 18 and 17) and Thierry Henry (17) have done so in more consecutive home appearances in the competition.

It is also Salah's 200th league goal of his career.

VAR was needed for that?! That was a hand of god!

    Ryan

W: I know the refs always ask for respect but when you see these decisions at Anfield it's never going to happen. You want respect, start damn well earning it by being consistent instead of occasional empty apologies.

This game is shocking. I'm tired to see this kind of refereeing again and again. They are killing this league.
