Blimey! My heart skipped a beat and I'm a neutral.

David Raya... he dillies and he dallies on a backpass, passing straight out to Cole Palmer before diving at the Chelsea forward's feet to rescue the situation.

He could easily have given away a penalty there, too.

    Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea were waiting for a game to prove themselves and they are doing just that. This has been their test this season- I know they had Liverpool but they weren't strong enough then. This was their test and they haven't looked spooked by it at all.

    Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

Arsenal cranking up the pressure again.

Another corner, this time from Gabriel Martinelli on the left, seems to be headed out by one of his team-mates before Takehiro Tomiyasu shoots wide.

He claims it should be a corner because of a deflection - he's got a point.

Much like Onana at United, Raya at Arsenal has also made no sense. Both aren't cut out to play at the highest level but were bought because they're 'ball playing abilities'.

    Adam

Would like to see Havertz given a chance up front. Firstly cos we need someone to actually hold the ball up and secondly cos I back him to get a goal against his old club.

Far from certain goalkeeping by Robert Sanchez, but he gets the job done... just.

Under pressure from the loitering Ben White, the Chelsea keeper flaps at the corner and just about does enough.

The following corner is cleared and Chelsea can breathe a little easier. For now.

    Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

Let's see what response Arsenal have got. They're finally playing with a higher tempo and more urgency.

Still they are struggling to find gaps in the Chelsea defence.

Gabriel Martinelli darts in from the left and forces a corner with a shot which is deflected for a corner.

Incredible goal. Mykhailo Mudryk takes his opportunity and strikes it in. I don't think he meant to score that, but he's got a bit lucky there.

    Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

    Well, well, well.

We wondered whether Chelsea had turned the corner under Mauricio Pochettino and this would be a heck of a statement if they end Arsenal's unbeaten run.

GOAL - Chelsea 2-0 Arsenalpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Mykhailo Mudryk

What a strike! Did Mykhailo Mudryk mean it? No idea. But he doesn't care! Nor does the vast majority of Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal lose possession through Ben White high on the right, allowing Chelsea to make the most of the space left behind.

Mudryk pops up on the overlap, dinking the ball over the head of David Raya from the left wing.

Raya was in no man's land, really poor positioning whether Mudryk got lucky or not.

    Chelsea 1-0 Arsenal

The two players are back out on the pitch - and there is a different face out there for Arsenal.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has been asked to replace Zinchenko, who was on a booking and getting a pasting from Raheem Sterling.

  13. 'We were nowhere near good enough'published at 18:29 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Newcastle 4-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to MOTD: "There is nothing I want to say to take away from the Newcastle performance. We didn't come anywhere near the football we are capable of playing, offensively or defensively. To come here and lose I can accept that but to come here and lose so comprehensively is hard to accept. We were just not anywhere near good enough.

"I can't say they didn't deserve to be 3-0 up at half time because they created a lot of chances and deserved to be ahead.

"We made uncharacteristic mistakes, defenders and midfielders making mistakes they hadn't been making. At half time, one of our coaches said this was our first under par performance in eight games. Maybe on Monday I will have a philosophical view about it but at the moment it is hard to take.

"We have to be very honest with ourselves and work out why this happened and make sure we are not in another similar position."

On Sir Bobby Charlton: "I was privileged to meet him on quite a few occasions. He is a true legend of the game, a true legend of English football. That 1966 team is the iconic team we will always look to and it is very sad we lose another from it."

  14. 'Delighted with our attitude'published at 18:28 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Newcastle 4-0 Crystal Palace

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to MOTD: "We had some really nice passages of play, had some really good goal scoring opportunities. I am delighted with the attitude of the players.

"Jacob Murphy was excellent today, he was a constant threat. That first goal was huge in the match because Crystal Palace defend very well.

"He [Anthony Gordon] has to score being an attacking player but he wants to score, he is very driven by scoring and creating. He could have had another today and I am delighted with his contribution."

On Sandro Tonali: "Absolute class from our supporters today. They supported and backed him and Sandro will leave here heartened by the reaction."

On Sir Bobby Charlton: "A huge loss for Sir Bobby's family and for football. He was an absolute icon of the game. I was fortunate enough to meet him a couple of times and he was an absolute gentleman as well."

  15. 'I am in a great place'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Newcastle 4-0 Crystal Palace

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's Anthony Gordon, speaking to MOTD: "It was a good performance. We thought it would be a difficult game because they have been a strong team this year and we had to be on top form."

On scoring: "It is what will take me to the next step of where I want to be. I work on it on the training pitch. I am in a great place, I am enjoying my football and just had a baby, so a great two weeks."

On Sandro Tonali reaction from fans: "The fans today when Sandro came on and even before that were incredible. They always support their players. We can only support him, we understand it is a very difficult time for him and his family."

  16. Postpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

Newcastle United propelled themselves into the race for Champions League qualification with a thumping victory over Crystal Palace at St James' Park.

First-half goals from Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Sean Longstaff were added to by Callum Wilson just past the hour as the Magpies climbed to fifth in the Premier League.

Here's some reaction from both camps...

  17. 'We're losing too many players'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Man City 2-1 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi: "I'm frustrated because of the injuries to Danny Welbeck and Solly March first of all. We lost two important players. We are losing too many players this season.

"The first half we didn't play well but we were playing against best team in world. We suffered a lot. In the second half we showed our quality. There was more energy and attitude. We played better and we pressed better.

"We need more players. We are not used to playing in European competition. We have to find a solution to play and compete in every competition."

  18. 'We showed fighting spirit'published at 18:25 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Man City 2-1 Brighton

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender John Stones, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a difficult game and I thought how we played the first half was excellent. It was a different second half. We had to dig in and show our fighting spirit.

"We had lost three of our previous four games so knew we had to come out fighting. That fight and desire of not losing was massive for us. Everyone played their part.

"How Brighton play - everyone can see how much they dominate with the ball. I felt great, really good. The manager always says give everything and that's all you can do. I gave everything today."

  19. 'We defended with our heart'published at 18:25 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Man City 2-1 Brighton

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Brighton have incredible quality and we had to suffer. Jeremy Doku played an exceptional game and helped us. He is clever with situations.

"We played 55-60 minutes really, really good and had more and more chances to score. At the end we defended with our heart.

"We accept it [red card]. We know what happened. We accept it."
