The first half wasn't that bad, the defensive side of things were OK. I was asking the question as soon as the substitute was made. When I saw McTominay beside Eriksen in midfield, I thought that was brave and maybe reckless.

We've just had it confirmed that Amrabat wasn't injured. That performance in the second half was appalling.

  2. 'We did well in the first half'published at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

FT: Man Utd 0-2 Man City

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the loss against Man City: "It hurts a lot. I think especially because first half the game plan went perfectly. It is only the penalty that changes the game."

Did you think it was a penalty? "No comment."

Were you surprised it was given? "No comment."

Was your approach to try and hit City on the break? "Yeah but we wanted to play from the back but you know they are going to press and then you have to go more direct. That's what we also tried to do and I think we defended very well. We closed the press and we almost didn't allow them to create good chances. Then on the break I think we had some good opportunities.

"We had the chances and we didn't take them and it is unlucky that you concede a goal the way we did. When you get totally outplayed you can accept it. In the second goal, we made a mistake and went out of the shape and then you get killed by them. But first half we did so perfectly and defended so well and had opportunities on the break. And then the penalty, it's disappointing."

What is your opinion on the gap between United and City? "Last year [at the] the same point, [it was the] same situation."

Ten Hag has spent £400m. On what? None of his signings are ripping up trees and there isn't a single player who's improved under his management.

  4. 'I am so proud of the club I represent'published at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

FT: Man Utd 0-3 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Playing here in this fantastic stadium. We have great games here and we like to play here. The first 5-10 minutes we lost simple easy balls and against a team it is dangerous.

"Then in the second half they make two aggressive actions and we make incredible build-up and we draw them and create the half-chance. Then after the second goal we moved the ball well and could have scored more goals. I am really pleased to be close to the top of the league.

"The second goal helped us a lot to be more calm and be more perfect. Really good."

On Erling Haaland's assist for Phil Foden: "That means how generous he is. He is a guy that he wants to score goals but if he has the chance to pass it he does it and he makes that action. Erling had an incredible chance at the end of the first half and Onana makes an incredible save. They had one chance with McTominay and Ederson makes a great save but in the second half, after the second goal, we were at our highest."

On his respect for United and their history: "United enjoy when they beat us so it is normal [for us to enjoy beating them]. Look how it was today. The [tribute] to Sir Bobby Charlton and Old Trafford was ,marvellous. I think in this country when they have to organise, Mike Summerbee, all United players there and that's football. Of course you want to win and people are going to laugh and when they beat us they laugh. But when that happened [the chanting about Sir Bobby last week] that doesn't represent us. What represents us is [being] united in this kind of thing. We respect the history and tradition and we have won a lot in the last decade and after the win we are always in the right position. We don't do an extra thing to humiliate the opponents. It was always the opposite and that is why I am so proud of the club I represent."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was asked in his press conference why it was so easy for his team at Old Trafford this afternoon.

"I understand the question because you are a good journalist (it was the man from the Mirror) - it looks easy but it is not."

It certainly looked like it Pep.

  6. 'The mentality of the players is there'published at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

FT: Man Utd 0-3 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day, about his side's performance: "Against a rival, at Old Trafford, of course it is one of the best of the season.

"I had a feeling that at this part of the season we are playing better than at this point last season.

"When we come here to Old Trafford we perform well, last season we lost, this season we won, so good."

On his side's mentality: "What we want is to play better, we are always focused on the way we play.

"The results are so important and there are moments you have to defend, and moments in the last minute where have to be smart and intelligent, but overall you have to play good.

"The [Champions League] game in Switzerland helped us a lot, to help us understand what we have to do.

"But the mentality of the players is always there - 80% of these guys have won five Premier Leagues and the treble. Of course you can lose games but the level is there."

On what he was saying to Erling Haaland as they left the pitch at full-time: "It was the chance in the last minute of the first half when Onana made the save.

"I had the feeling he doesn't need to go strong and attack, he just needs to touch it. You have to put the ball in the right spot.

"But Erling is a machine. He scored two goals and could have scored four. He is incredible. We are confident when we have him there. I'm really pleased."

I was gutted to see Gundogan go, but Bernardo is just a different level. He works so hard for the team. On and off the ball, he's a perfect player for this team.

I would say sack the manager if it wasn't like ground hog day. You can't solve a problem with the same incorrect answer. Ten Hag hasn't got much right this season. But who do you replace him with? It would just be the same again. I have no idea what the answer is. United are run like the water companies of this country. Football just isn't important at United anymore just revenue.

The Bernardo Silva love-in has continued in Pep Guardiola's press conference.

"He is one of the best players I have ever seen in my life. Everybody loves him."

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

In that first 10 minutes where it was difficult for City, Bernardo Silva got hold of the game. I thought he was sensational. They could have scored four or five.

United tried to man-mark him and he took them all over the pitch.

  11. 'We are in love with him'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

FT: Man City 0-3 Man Utd

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "We always have a good feeling here. The platers played their best and I am really pleased for our fans, I know what it means to them. For many years, when Sir Alex was here they see United up there and in the last few years we changed the tendency. After the first 5-10 minutes when we lose balls against a team that is so dangerous like that we take control and after the second goal make a fantastic game."

On Bernardo Silva: "I could stay here and talk for 10 minutes on what Bernardo Silva means for me and our team. He is a player that is beyond good in all departments - solidarity, intelligence, he understands everything. We are in love with him.

"The problem is he has no big cars, he dress maybe not for high style. He is humble and everybody loves him in the locker room. We were lucky not to lose him. he is irreplaceable. I know he is happy here."

City are still the team to beat. I think they'll win the league and win it comfortably. I don't think Liverpool are quite ready to mount a serious challenge and everything isn't quite there for Arsenal.

  13. 'Our best 90 minutes of the season'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

FT: Man Utd 0-3 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Erling Haaland, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a fantastic performance, a controlled 90-minute game and every single Manchester City player had a fantastic performance."

On whether it was City's best 90 minutes this season: "I think so - in terms of controlling the game and playing the football we wanted to play. It is not easy but the way we managed to keep going and the game was incredible."

On the penalty: "I saw it, it was clear. I saw on the screen and it was clear. Then it was about focusing and scoring."

On his celebration: "There was so many people singing 'Keano' - I don't why, I used it as motivation. I gave them a good celebration."

On his assist for Foden: "I had a lot of chances could have scored more goals but when a teammate is in a better position you play to them, easy as that."

On whether beating United is extra special: "Of course it is. In the big picture it is three points. You need consistency throughout the whole season in the competition. There are still 84 points so it's just about getting three points week in, week out."

They've got brilliant players and what you saw at the end of today, with players running back, you saw everything you want to see in a team. Pep must be delighted. You can have all the skill and talent, but they've got hunger.

City were amazing. In the past, people have said they can be boring to watch. You're watching one of the best performances in the Premier League. You normally get those when you're at home.

I just thought it was an outstanding performance from start to finish.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is not how we want. We played a very good opponent and unfortunately we didn't read the game.

"As Manchester United we try to be ready every game but there were some key moments - like the penalty.

"I'm not the one to decide and we have to accept the decision of the referee.

"The first goal was a key moment and from there on we looked down."

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The first half we played very good, we defended very well. We had good breaks, good opportunities but we could have taken more benefit. Then the penalty changes the game.

"We had to go offensive in the second half, we wanted to be more compact. We know they would press us, go high and go direct."

On when did the game started getting away from United: "The second goal. It came too early and then we're making the wrong decisions. We spoke about not pressing the keepers when it was not possible.

"The first half I think things went the way we wanted. The second half, at 2-0, you have to go against them out of shape and when you don't they will find the spare man. We have to be better organised."

On regrouping before Wednesday's League Cup match against Newcastle: "We are down, but we played a good game first half. We will be disappointed and annoyed, but tomorrow we will be there."

On his substitutions: "You try to get more offensive and you see we worked very hard and brought in new energy, but it was impossible at that point, 3-0 down with five minutes left to play."

You have got to look at the recruitment for Manchester United. Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Reguilon are three of your back four finishing the game for Manchester United against your rivals at Old Trafford.

    At times it was embarrassing.

You look at the top teams in the Premier League and they have got a way of play. Tottenham, you know how they are going to play, Liverpool, Brighton. Manchester United still, after all this time, I have no idea how they are going to play.

    It is a huge worry.

But City - wow. Unbelievable. Manchester United did not lay a glove on Manchester City.
