Manchester United have lost half of their games in the Premier League this season (5/10 – W5 L5); their most defeats from their opening 10 games of a league campaign since 1986-87 (6).

It was that start that led to United sacking Ron Atkinson and appointing some bloke called Alex Ferguson.

They will do well to finish in the top four. If they finish in the top four they'll have had an unbelievable season. I don't know what the financial situation is for January but he needs three or four quality players. We are talking the quality of what Man City have got. It's not going to be cheap. He has got to get players out who have not performed for the football club. For me, he has got to spend money in January if he is going to get anywhere near top four.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has scored 20 goals in 23 away appearances in the Premier League, the fewest games needed to reach this tally in the competition, overtaking Kevin Phillips’ record of 20 goals in his first 28 away games.

Haaland has scored five goals in three Premier League appearances against Manchester United – only Sergio Agüero has netted more against them for Manchester City in the competition (eight goals in 13 games).

Guardiola demands that off every player. He wants to win the leagues and cups and wants every player to improve.

The consistency is what makes them win these trophies. If they are at that level this season, they will probably win the league. And they'll probably win the Treble or the Double again.

Erling Haaland is one of the best post-match interviewees in the Premier League. He always has that wry smile, ready to drop something in that is either unusable on air or highly dry.

After handing Bernardo Silva Sky's man of the match award, he hugs the little man and then offers: "I love you, just like Pep does".

As he walks off, Bernardo responds with "are you sure this is mine?!"

    Manchester City

Man City striker Erling Haaland, speaking to Sky Sports: "Amazing. A fantastic win and the game was incredible and the team, everything, especially this guy [Bernardo Silva - next to him].

On the third goal: "I saw Phil was alone so it was simple as that. People were singing to me 'Keano' [after the penalty], I don't know why but it is what it is. It was a nice celebration and a nice game."

On what he was talking to Guardiola about as he left the field: "It was an incredible save right before half time. It was also a great save in the second half when he saved with his head. It is what it is, we won so I don't care."

Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva: "It was good game for us. Apart from a few simple balls we lost we didn't give them much to counter. The first 30 mins of the second half we were really good. The way we pressed, what we lacked against Arsenal, we were fabulous. Congratulations to the big man too!

"When we come to these places, like Anfield and Old Trafford, we know what teams are waiting for - for us to lose the ball and counter. It is about the build up, not losing simple balls and controlling the game and being slow in the first metres of our half and goal kicks. After then it is about breaking through to attack. It is never easy to come here to beat this team.

"It is definitely one of the best wins. To win 3-0 away with this crowd, I think it is definitely one of the best performances."

Manchester United have been beaten by 3+ goals in a Premier League home game against Manchester City for the third time (6-1 in 2011, 3-0 in 2014 and 3-0 in 2023), their joint-most defeats by such a margin against a single opponent, along with three versus Liverpool.

This was Manchester City’s seventh win at Old Trafford under Pep Guardiola, while it’s the first time they’ve won there by 3+ goals under him. Only against Arsenal (8) has Guardiola won more away games against a single opponent in his managerial career.

I have got to say the best team have won for miles. It was no contest for me. Man United had a couple of chances but let's be honest, 88 minutes of this game was Manchester City's.

The difference between the two sides is absolutely massive. Man United need too have a clear out and get some new players in. This just shows you the quality of Manchester City.

There is a fascinating little chat going on between Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola as they leave the field together.

It looks like they are discussing a header - possibly the one from the striker that Andre Onana saved early in the first half. Pep is making a move to suggest Haaland should have directed the effort instead of opting for power. Not sure the big man agrees.

Antony will not let it go with Jeremy Doku. With play stopped for a City free-kick, the United winger steps over again to have his say.

VAR has a little check to make sure he's not done anything really naughty, but they're content he's stopped short.

    Late aggro!

Antony has a massive hack at Jeremy Doku and then an even bigger one. The City man is understandably not happy but it is the United winger who gets really furious.

He didn't look happy when he came on and he's carried that on since.

A yellow card comes his way.
