Let's focus on the early game now. Ten minutes to go until kick-off.

After five away trips in their past seven games, West Ham are hoping for some home comfort over the next few weeks.

The Hammers have four home games in the next five matches which David Moyes hopes will give an "advantage" to his side.

"If you look at our start to the season, I was moaning a little bit because I thought we had a really unfair start to the season," Moyes said.

"We had three away from home in the first four games of the season, and even in the next batch of games, it kept us in a negative side regarding being away from home.

"Hopefully it will help us now having four of the next five at home. We've been good enough at home - we've had some tough games and we expect some more to come."

Liverpool are unbeaten in their previous 26 home games against Nottingham Forest in all competitions, a run dating back to a 2-0 defeat in February 1969.

Indeed, Forest's only point in their six Premier League visits to Anfield came in a goalless draw in February 1993, in Brian Clough's final season in charge.

Liverpool were ruthless in midweek, beating Toulouse 5-1.

As for Forest, they've drawn their past three and last won at the start of September.

    Away victory anyone?

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has reported no new fitness concerns after Thursday's 4-1 win against AZ.

Jacob Ramsey and Alex Moreno remain on the sidelines, as do long-term injury absentees Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendia.

Luton defender Reece Burke will be absent because of the hamstring injury that forced him off against Nottingham Forest.

Mads Andersen, Amari'i Bell, Jordan Clark, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Dan Potts are again set to miss out.

Andros Townsend feels he has an important role as a senior player in the Luton squad and wants to do all he can to help the Hatters stay in the Premier League.

Speaking to BBC Three Counties Radio, the former Tottenham and Everton winger said: "The problem was when I was younger I didn’t listen, there was always people trying to tell me and help me, but I didn’t listen. The good thing about this group is that everyone has got their head screwed on, there’s no bad eggs in that dressing room.

"Whether that be a 31-year-old or a 20-year-old or a youngster coming through that 17, 18, 19 - everyone wants to listen and learn so hopefully if I can impart some wisdom with my words or the way I conduct myself on a day-to-day basis then I have done my job as a senior professional."

The 32-year-old joined Luton on a short-term contract until January and has already seen the importance of having the right attitude at the club.

Aston Villa host Luton Town later today with the Hatters looking to be the first team in 12 matches to take points off Unai Emery's team at Villa Park.

Emery believes the Villans' 11-game home winning streak only serves to add extra motivation for visiting teams.

"I think it's increasing the challenge for the opponent because they are coming here thinking it's difficult to win," he said in his press conference on Friday.

"It is a great challenge coming here trying to break it."

Despite the record the hosts have going into today's match, Luton manager Rob Edwards is positive in his ambitions for the trip to Birmingham.

"We always believe we can get something from any game," he said.

"We believe we have a good plan.

"They are a team on on the up, with a brilliant manager. It's not scary. If I was scared I'm in the wrong business.

"Its a tough game, we will have to be better than we were against Forest. We are in the mix, we are comfortable where we are at, we are competing well.

"We have taken five points from the last five games, as long as we are in the mix we will be ok."

  9. Sutton's predictionpublished at 12:33 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    Brighton v Fulham (14:00 GMT)

    Sutton's predictionImage source, BBC Sport

A Brighton fan screamed a rude word at me at Manchester Piccadilly station while I was on my way home from the Etihad Stadium last weekend, because I had predicted that City would beat the Seagulls 6-2 and the final score was 2-1.

He wasn't the only one to remind me about that prediction during the course of the afternoon when I was co-commentating for 5 Live, but I did make the point to him that his side had still lost, so was he celebrating defeat?

James Milner will probably still be dizzy after being asked to try to deal with Jeremy Doku, who was sensational in the first half of that game, but I am expecting a much easier afternoon for the rest of his Brighton team-mates.

City pressed them so well, especially early on, that they could not get up the pitch. Fulham will not be able to match that, and I don't think they offer too much of a threat.

I'm still not sure what to make of Marco Silva's side this season. They don't look quite the same going forward as they did last year, although I do think they have enough to stay up.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

A little later, Brighton host Fulham off the back of their memorable win over Ajax in midweek.

The Seagulls have never beaten Fulham in the Premier League, drawing three and losing three of the six meetings.

Form might be against them, Roberto de Zerbi's side are winless in three league games, drawing one and losing two.

That said, Fulham aren't great on the road.

They are without a win in their past four top-flight away matches, drawing two and losing two.

    Something's got to give today.

    Everton

Everton manager Sean Dyche speaking to Sky Sports ahead of this afternoon's clash: "Well I think it was a shock to everyone [the passing of Bill Kenwright]. A big figure at the club for many years. A shock to everyone concerned."

Why Nathan Patterson starts: "He is growing in his maturity in the Premier League and how he is figuring it out as a player. He has been steady for us and he has another chance to come in and be effective."

On last week's performance: "It makes it difficult [when you go down to 10]. We were trying to bring the energy and it was a good performance.

"We will see. When the whistle blows you have to play the group that is ahead of you. They are an experienced side with an experienced manager so we have to be ready."

David Moyes spent much of his Everton tenure working under Bill Kenwright, who died earlier this week aged 78.

The West Ham boss said Kenwright was "probably one of the most supportive men" and revealed how the Everton chairman messaged him after Moyes led the Hammers to the Europa Conference League last season.

"Winning a trophy was something where he was thrilled for me personally. He was a great man, incredibly supportive and someone I'll always be thankful for," Moyes said.

"I think when you get someone you can talk to, someone you can tell anything.

"I used to speak to Bill probably every day on the phone after training or later in the day driving home.

"I used to always say to him that I'll tell you all the good things, Bill, but if you want that I'll have to tell you the bad things as well.

"He was great, he could help me with any news or difficulties."

It has been an emotional week for Everton following the death of their chairman Bill Kenwright at the age of 78.

Kenwright had surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his liver eight weeks ago.

He had been on the board at Everton since 1989, taking over as chairman at Goodison Park in 2004.

Everton said it was "in mourning" following the death of the club's longest-serving chairman for more than a century.

"The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration," Everton added.

Today is bound to be a poignant occasion as Everton play for the first time since Kenwright's death.

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking about the late Bill Kenwright: "I had great years with him. We had a lot of success. It is a pity Bill isn't here to watch his team."

Why have you brought Mohammed Kudus into the team? "Maybe just a bit more quality and that final pass, the final delivery in the box. We have been trying to get him in the team and the team has been playing very well so it was difficult for him to come in but we felt today was the time to do so."

On West Ham's aims for today: "We want to be resolute in any game but we always expect our players to do better, with very little preparation time. We hope we can do it today."

What do you expect from Everton? "Hard to beat. They seem to have done a bit better away from home and not had as much pressure on them away from home. It will be a tough game. It always is against Everton and Dyche's teams."

While United continue to struggle to return to former glory, City have won the Premier League in five of the past six seasons and emulated their rivals' famous 1998-99 treble achievement last season.

The closest United have come to rivalling City domestically since then was as runners-up under Jose Mourinho in 2017-18 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020-21.

However, on those two occasions, United finished 19 and 12 points behind City respectively.

As such, Guardiola believes Liverpool are City's current biggest rivals, having had several close battles with Jurgen Klopp's side during his tenure.

"Manchester United, when something happens, is in the highlights all day. The reputation and the prestige they have is always there. It just needs to click," Guardiola said.

"But Liverpool have been our biggest rivals - they made us challenge higher and higher and helped make us a better team in all departments."

Ten Hag led United to their first silverware in six years in his first season as United manager, clinching the Carabao Cup in February, and also guided the club back to the Champions League with a third-place league finish.

But the Dutchman's second season has got off to an underwhelming start and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher wrote this week, external that United "resemble a team reaching the end of a cycle, not one still rebuilding", adding: "The football is stale and the symptoms of regression are visible."

Ten Hag disagrees and pointed to certain statistics which he feels demonstrate evidence of improvement in his team.

"We are top in the Premier League in high ball regains, we are top in the Premier League in middle ball regains," he said.

"Our pressing is always very good, so that is not the truth what he is telling."

Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United are going "in the right direction" - but Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola considers Liverpool his side's current biggest rivals.

United kick-off Sunday's derby six points behind City after losing four of their opening nine matches.

"I see positives, I see also negatives," said Ten Hag, adding his side still "have a way to go".

Guardiola suggested it "will take time" for United to challenge for the title.
