  1. 'An important match'published at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 3-1 Luton

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to MOTD: "We tried to keep our gameplan. In the first half we didn't concede one corner.

"In the second half we controlled the game more like we had been preparing.

"We always want to score more goals, we want to win with clean sheets, the most important for us it to try and get good performance and try and be consistent and not be under this level of performance for 90 minutes.

"Today was a very important match, we tried to be consistent in our gameplan. We respected them because they won at Everton and drew at Nottingham Forest.

"We are connected with our supporters. I am feeling it and their energy."

  2. 'This won't define our season'published at 16:32 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 3-1 Luton

    Luton Town

Luton boss Rob Edwards, speaking to MOTD: "Villa are an outstanding team who are in a great moment, very confident and very clear in what they want to do. They made it very tough for us but good learning I would say for us.

"We will come up against teams like this who are in good form and there were times when we did things well. There are bits of us to learn and improve on. This game was never going to define our season but we have to make sure it makes us better.

"The goals were all avoidable, they were all disappointing.

"We are missing some players which made us go down to the bare bones in the back unit but I love this group of players. There is a really strong bond with the fans and that is really important this season, we have to stick together. Our strength will be sticking together."

  3. 'We kept knocking at the door but we couldn't score'published at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: West Ham 0-1 Everton

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Very close game but I expected it. Everton on the road are much better than they are at home this season and they proved it. Tough to break down, a goal whoever got it might have been the difference and they got the goal.

"We missed two or three chances but ultimately we conceded a goal and we done enough, we missed a few opportunities and we kept knocking at the door trying to get there but we couldn't score.

"Huge credit to Everton for the way they defended the box brilliantly well, they didn't give us much room when we did get room, their goalkeeper [Jordan Pickford] might have made a save and also we have to come up with a bit more creativity and a bit more sort of guile. We had two or three chances to score and we didn't take them.

On the goals drying up: "I agree to an extent, I think this is the first game that we haven't scored in so maybe we haven't been flowing as many but we have been scoring. We need to score more, we need to create more and we've talked about that with the players, just not making those opportunities that we were making in the early part of the season."

On Mohammed Kudus: "I thought he played very well for us, he gave us more of a chance to be creative but we didn't really make a great deal from it but his individual performance was excellent."

On fixture congestion: "I'm not going to make any excuses, that's for sure because we've done it for the last two years but I've said many times and it's difficult to explain, when you play Thursday-Sunday, it's not an easy schedule. We've got it, we're really pleased we've got it, we've won some games after coming back on Thursday and we've lost some games on a Sunday. Today was really tight and in the main we've been pretty good at the London Stadium so disappointing result to take."

On Bill Kenwright: "We were devastated to hear of Bill [Kenwright's] passing, he was such a big supporter of Everton and everything he did there was for the best of the club. He'll be someone I miss, he was very good for me in my career."

  5. 'Some good learning for us'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: Aston Villa 3-1 Luton

    Luton Town

Luton boss Rob Edwards, speaking Sky Sports: "Setting up the way we did we had to make sure we defended the box really well and we didn't do that well enough. There is some good learning for us there.

"We tried to restrict them as much as possible. The timing for the second goal was disappointing but even at 2-0 we were still in the game, but the third was a killer blow.

"Villa are in a good moment and it was always going to be difficult for us, which proved to be the case. We have to make sure we learn from it.

"The fans were standing up and applauding at the end because they could see the commitment from the players."

  6. 'Befiting to get a result for the chairman'published at 16:29 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: West Ham 0-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton boss Sean Dyche, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We came down with the intention of taking the game on, we always do. It's not always easy, this is a tough place to come, they're an experienced outfit with a very experienced manager of course but overall with the way we performed, the chances we created and a fine goal, we just about edged it and got a nice three points.

"They can control the game here with sometimes playing slowly and methodical so I thought we had to change the tempo and ask more questions. I thought we worked well on the break, bit more quality here and there and we might have got a chance to score. Their keeper made a great save, we hit the bar, big moments go against us but overall we see it though and I think it's been a sad week as well and it's befitting to get a result for the chairman [Bill Kenwright] who we have lost sadly and his family.

On Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goal: "We know that Dom is sharp, he's getting sharper and fitter, I think he has worked all day with Ducs [Abdoulaye Doucoure], doing a lot of legwork for the team. I think it's a really great finish, Ducs sort of controls it, just comes away from him but great turn and finish. Those snapshots are very difficult to defend, turn and hit as I call it, very difficult for defenders so very good finish."

"West Ham had a couple of chances as the game wore on but Jordan [Pickford] makes a great save and a couple of saves in the second half that you'd like to think he would make. We kept them controlled the best we could, I thought the two centre-halves were immense. Jarrad [Branthwaite] continues to mature into a player, Tarky [James Tarkowski] is obviously a bit more rounded but I thought them two were immense today and the keeper behind them in the second half particularly.

"Very tough week for different reasons, very sad week in many ways for many people. Like I say it was befitting to get a result for the chairman who sadly passed away and his family. The underlying thing is that a lot of players that have spent a bit of time here and know the chairman and they're sad as well as I am."

    FT: Liverpool 3-0 Nottingham Forest

    Liverpool

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has been speaking to Match of the Day about him holding up Luis Diaz's shirt after scoring. Diaz missed the match following reports his parents had been kidnapped in Colombia.

Jota said: "Luis was with us in the hotel then he went home. It's a very hard situation and I don't know how anyone would react if it happened to you.

"He was going to play. I played instead of him and I showed him his shirt to show we're with him and we hope everything works out.

"It's unimaginable to think a situation like this could happen. We can just support him and show him we're with him."

  8. 'A huge point for us'published at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: Brighton 1-1 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham defender Tim Ream speaking to Premier League Productions: "We were more on the front foot and in their faces. We pressed a little higher and we got the reward for it.

"We weren't aggressive enough in the first half and that was the biggest thing. If we weren't going to be aggressive, we were going to come away with nothing.

"We got our reward, got our goal, and came away with a point.

"The game is won in both boxes. For us it's just about being calm in the attacking box.

"It's a huge point. It's a tough month for us, three away fixtures. We needed to come here, put in a good performance, and come away with points."

  9. 'That one was for Bill'published at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: West Ham 0-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton forward Dominic Calvert Lewin speaking to Sky Sports: "Nobody was prepared for what happened this week [the passing of Bill Kenwright] and it saddened everyone at the club and that one was for Bill, I know he would have been watching today very proud of us and more so proud of the way we won. We got the lead and then dug in to a man, we worked so hard for each other and then to go over at the end, just the atmosphere, it was a very good day.

On his goal: "There wasn't much thinking to be honest, it was just instinct, I felt the ball come in and then touch and finish but I knew I had to be patient today. Chances in the first half were few and far between so just got to stay in there and keep believing and when my chance does come, make sure that I take it and I did today.

On being fit: "It feels good, it's the best feeling in the world to come away form home and win in the manner that we did, 1-0 and then see the game out, stick together and defend well and move well as a unit. You could say a tricky season, maybe it was a tricky start to the season in the first few games but I think in the last few games, bar the derby where things went against us we've been good so long may it continue.

"You've got to be in there to score, Ducs [Abdoulaye Doucoure] had one, maybe if I could have held my run a bit longer, I could have got another one. As long as I'm in there getting shots and taking my chances, I'm happy.

"As players we have a job to do and we have to do the business on the pitch and play football. We stick together and we continue to march on.

On reaching 50 Premier League goals for Everton: "One of the lads said to me on the coach on the way to the game that I was one off 50 so great milestone. I'm in good company at the football club and I'm aiming to take the other three out!"

We have just saw two great saves in the last five minutes.

What a save that is. As soon as it goes to Haaland you think it is going in the back of the net.

He heads it into the centre of the goal. If he heads it down, that's a goal.

Andre Onana's save is the last act.

What a crucial moment that could be.

As it stands, they are trailing, but still in this.

    Aaaaand breathe.

    Wow! What a magnificent save!

    Anything Ederson can do...

Bernardo Silva is found in behind the United defence to chip a ball into the middle. Erling Haaland gets a running start on his marker and rises to smash a header that looks certain to be 2-0...

But there is Andre Onana, flinging himself over to palm the ball away.

    Just brilliant.

The key for goalkeepers at the really top clubs is to maintain concentration when you have little to do, then make the vital save.

That is exactly what Ederson did then. Scott McTominay thought he had scored.

    What a superb save!

Scott McTominay is found in behind the City defence and holds off his marker before smashing a shot goalwards. It looks like he's going to net another big goal for United until Ederson flings himself to his left to push the ball aside.

    We're into four added minutes.

Sofyan Amrabat was furious at getting a yellow card then.

But after getting quickly to his feet and getting right into Phil Foden's face, I am not entirely sure what referee Paul Tierney is supposed to do.

    Aggressive intent from both players.
