Former Premier League referee Mike Dean, speaking to Sky Sports: "Amrabat just overreacted for no reason. It was two silly cautions really and they have to be careful for the rest of the game."

City's eighth corner is met by Marcus Rashford, with the clearance completed by Harry Maguire.

United simply aren't offering enough in the City half. They've been penned back pretty much since that Rasmus Hojlund break.

    It's getting heated now!

Phil Foden fouls Sofyan Amrabat and there's a response. Foden gestures to throw the ball and says something at Amrabat, who gets up and goes forehead to forehead, with team-mates piling in.

It's Amrabat that gets the booking, much to the disgust of the home fans.

    This is a derby now!

Jack Grealish is getting a battering, on the pitch and in the stands. Bruno Fernandes jumps in late on him after the City man has headed the ball away.

It's a foul that sends the England forward down - something that tends to draw a volley of abuse wherever he plays, whether he deserves it or not.

How many other fouls and pushes and holds were being carried out in the box. Yet they just look at one! VAR is ruining football.

That's the challenge of a 35-year-old defender from Jonny Evans. I've been there.

City are dominating possession. Every single player in a blue shirt wants the ball.

I can't say that for Manchester United.

    City well on top.

It goes against the grain when we demand players stay on their feet but is Ramus Hojlund had gone down on his run at the United goal, there would have been a decision to make.

There definitely seemed to be a hand in the Dane's back as he raced at Ederson, which can't have helped him.

Oof. Almost a right royal mix up for United.

A ball is crossed in from the right and neither Jonny Evans or Harry Maguire take control. The ball hits the former and is almost converted by Jack Grealish before Maguire smashes the ball away.

Undoubtedly, there is contact. But it's disappointing that Rodri is rewarded when his main motivation is to hit the floor and orchestrate a foul. That degree of contact clearly isn't enough to make him fall to the ground.

This is not a specific dig aimed at Manchester United, but at football in general.... it's just mad that you have to spend £72m to get a player who isn't the finished product.

You are not going to get many today and unfortunately his touch let him down. He has got to get better at that but the experience will bring that.

He is not going to get many in this match and it was a case of touch, and gone.

Manchester United's supporters are furious but it was clear Rasmus Hojlund dragged Rodri back. Erling Haaland loved that moment in front of the Stretford End and was met with chants of "Keano" - a reference to the past history between his father Alf-Inge and former United captain Roy Keane.

The chance is all but gone but he regathers to fire a shot... off target!

  19. Big call from Michael Oliverpublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    Man Utd 0-1 Man City

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

I did point out earlier Michael Oliver had been put on VAR duties and that is a massive call.

We are used to a lot of pulling and shoving in situations like that. I assume Oliver thinks Rodri had a chance of getting the ball.

What Manchester United will demand now is similar action if something happens at the other end - and they will be claiming for it, even if it is not quite the same.

It's a great penalty. Sends the keeper the wrong way, with a little bit of pressure on him.

Excellent penalty, but a very harsh decision. I am very surprised he gave it.
