  1. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 62 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

Cardiff boss Erol Bulut makes a couple of changes as we pass the hour mark.

Kion Etete and Rubin Colwill are on for Ike Ugbo and Yakou Meite, who didn't have many chances to show what they can do today.

Bulut will be delighted if Cardiff get a point here, or more, the way the game has panned out.

It's not an easy one. Ollie Tanner created it with his pace and it was a good early ball into the box.

Ike Ugbo received the ball with his back to goal and had to turn and hit it quickly, and because of that he couldn't control it.

Best chance for Cardiff so far!

Sub Ollie Tanner is involved, sending the ball into the box where Ike Ugbo's first touch takes it away from his man but he can only fire over the bar.

A reminder that Cardiff are still in this.

  4. YELLOW CARD Mason Burstow (Sunderland)published at 16:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

    Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

And a yellow for Mason Burstow, the young forward on loan from Chelsea.

    He brought down Ryan Wintle.

That comes just before Niall Huggins shoots wide for the hosts as they continue to press.

  5. YELLOW CARD Manolis Siopis (Cardiff)published at 16:19 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

    Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

A first yellow card for Cardiff comes the way of Manolis Siopis.

As Sunderland get into the final third they quicken the passing very intelligently and they forced another good save from Jak Alnwick in the Cardiff goal.

Sunderland are knocking on the door.

  7. CLOSE!published at 53 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

Another save from Jak Alnwick keeps Cardiff in the game!

It's Alex Pritchard who goes close again for Sunderland but Alnwick gets down low to make a good save.

Dimitrios Goutas then blocks Jack Clarke's follow-up as the hosts come again.

It's all hands to the pump for Cardiff but how much longer can they hold out?

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 47 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

We mentioned Karlan Grant was struggling with an injury before the break and he has had to depart the action.

Ollie Tanner is on in his place.

Tanner made the difference in the south Wales derby last Saturday - he came off the bench to score the opener as Cardiff beat Swansea 2-0.

Can he make a similarly positive impact today?

  9. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

    Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

Sunderland were turning up the heat as the first half wore on but just couldn't find a way past Jak Alnwick.

If they keep at it you wonder if Cardiff will be able to hold out for 90 minutes.

They are without main man and source of inspiration Aaron Ramsey today.

  10. Moore to come after Warnock's departurepublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

It all started in the dim and distant past of Friday evening with Birmingham City's goalless draw with QPR but this round of Championship action is spread across four days so there is still more to come.

Monday's fixture sees Coventry City host Huddersfield Town (20:00 BST) with the Terriers having new manager Darren Moore in charge for the first time after he replaced the one and only Neil Warnock, who stepped down in midweek.

Warnock saved the club from relegation last season and won two and drew one of his final three games in charge.

How will they get on in the post-Warnock world?

  11. Cardiff 'will be relieved' to be 0-0published at 15:58 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

    HT: Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

Cardiff haven't had a shot on target. Being without Aaron Ramsey is a massive hole to fill.

The distances between the three forward players is too far.

I think they will be relieved to get into half-time at 0-0 because Sunderland have been the better side. It's been a good game - I've enjoyed it.

  12. Sunderland need to 'up the tempo'published at 15:55 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

    Gary Bennett
Ex-Sunderland defender on BBC Radio Newcastle

    It's a slow burner.

I'm sure Tony Mowbray will tell the Sunderland players to keep doing what they're doing, up the tempo just a little bit and they will win the game.

The hosts had the better of it but it's goalless at the break.

Jobe Bellingham, Alex Pritchard and Jack Clarke all had good openings for Sunderland but were either off-target or denied well by the Bluebirds backline.

Cardiff are yet to have a shot on target but have hung on in there and will be hoping they can build on that in the second period.

Which way do you see this going?

Only two added minutes for either side to find the opener before half-time.

Have the visitors seen off the Sunderland storm?

An injury concern for Cardiff as Karlan Grant receieves treatment - but he's back on and appears to be fine.

One to keep an eye on over the break.

Close again for Sunderland, they really want that opener!

Jack Clarke drives towards goal and forces Jak Alnwick into a fine stop to keep it level.

  17. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Sunderland 0-0 Cardiff

Alex Pritchard has been involved in a lot of Sunderland's better work this afternoon.

He's fouled by Manolis Siopis and has the chance to test Jak Alnwick with the free-kick.

But it's straight into the wall.

    Five minutes until the break.

Can either side grab the opener before half-time?

  18. Postpublished at 34 mins

Past the half-hour mark at the Stadium of Light and we're still awaiting the opener.

The hosts have had the better of it but Cardiff are hanging in there and providing a threat on the break.

It's been a slow start by the home side but they are stating to go through the gears now. They are pressing Cardiff all over the pitch.

Cardiff find a response on the counter to remind Sunderland that they are not going to have it all their own way.

Karlan Grant and Yakou Meite are doing their best to stretch the home defence and keep them on their toes.
