More from Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta:

On Eddie Nketiah's England call up: "I am so pleased for him. He has had some moments when his pathway was not clear and had to fight through. I love his mentality and his work-rate and how hard he has fought to be recognised at that level. It is a really nice moment for him."

On Ben White missing out: "He has been incredible once again since the start of the season. He certainly has the level and has proven that over the past few years."

    Arsenal

Mikel Arteta on deadline day signings: "I do not expect anyone to come in. For me, today is serene. I don't have to do much work. Trying to finalise a few things, that’s it today.”

On the club's outgoing players: "We're working together to find the best solutions, we've found them and I think the players are happy and the club in general, I think we did some good business as well."

On Folarin Balogun's departure: “We didn’t have space for him in the squad to give him the minutes he needs.

"He did really well last year, he's evolving in the right way. He wanted the chance to continue developing in his career, he's going to a really good club. They have huge experience on developing talent. Really happy for him as well”

Mike: Brighton could be the victims of their own success with the Fati loan. If he is successful in the EPL, one of the 'big 6' will be taking him permanently.

Fati got a new contract based on the hype around him at the beginning. Like all young Barcelona players since Messi. They never reach the heights and to reduce the wage bill he has been moved on. Ya está! [That's it]

  5. Maupay heading back to Brentfordpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Brentford are hoping to secure a loan deal for former striker Neal Maupay - now at Everton - before the transfer window closes.

The 27-year-old has struggled since making a £15m move to Everton from Brighton a year ago, only scoring one goal in his spell at Goodison Park.

Bees' manager Thomas Frank remains a big admirer of Maupay, who scored 41 goals in 95 games in his first spell at Brentford before moving to Brighton in a £16m deal in August 2019.

If there are no late hitches, Maupay will return to Brentford on loan until the end of the season.

Keegan, Dalglish, Torres and Suarez were all irreplaceable, but we did. IF Salah goes he will be replaced but not straight away so this season is then about building. But my number 1 concern is Klopp’s thoughts as he IS irreplaceable.

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder speaking to BBC Sport

Former Manchester City and Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown has been speaking to BBC Sport about a busy deadline day so far.

"They're happening aren't they? There's a lot movement because of the amount of transfers.

"Once the big clubs start moving, that's what triggers everything else. The loans are waiting, all your leagues are waiting for the bigger clubs – the Championship, lower end of the Premier League - are all waiting to see what loans they can do and get in their side.

"That's the waiting game, but we've seen quite a lot of movement so far. There's been some big moves - Chelsea involved again which is no surprise, Villa starting to get going, what Manchester United are going to bring on the loan deals as well, so it's exciting."

If the offer had been made a week ago for Salah at 150M I think Liverpool might have considered !?! But it's just too late in the window for them to spend it I think?

    J

Liverpool really can’t afford to accept £150m for Salah even if the bid was made earlier in the window - they would need a world-class replacement for him, and it’s not as though these people are looking for Europa League action…

We asked who would make your deadline day wish list.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Pete: They need McAtee for a start. Last season he gave us a fresh start through the middle, scoring goals also. He is young and hungry for first team-football. He is all over the pitch with his energy, which is something we need to sharpen us up.

Matt: McAtee please. We need someone to help link up the midfield with the attack and he knows the manager and the club's tactics already, so could slot in immediately.

Rob: Has to be McAtee and another midfielder. Would Smith Rowe come on loan?

David: Hugo Loris and Divock Origi would complete the team.

Regarding the Salah offer, there’s just no time today to get a replacement in today. I can see the Saudis coming back in January with something similar but then we’d hopefully have some options lined up. Madness to sell today though.

  13. 'Salah won't be happy'published at 14:36 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sun, 3rd September 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports about Mohamed Salah.

"Salah won't be happy. I did it many years ago. I went to Middlesbrough, the money was phenomenal. Looking back now, I wouldn't have done it again and that's no disrespect to Middlesbrough.

"This is mind blowing money. This is money that means his grandchildren won't have to do anything. He'll be finished in four or five years. He's got another 50 years of his life left to live, it's a long time.

"I feel for Jurgen Klopp. With the way they're throwing money around, their window should close at the same time as ours. If he does go then they have to wait until January. I feel for Liverpool, for Klopp and I feel for Salah as well."

Very much a case of nothing more to see at Arsenal in terms of players arriving, with manager Mikel Arteta saying that he doesn't "expect anymore to come in."

The Spaniard did go on to say the club were looking at the best solutions

We were working together to find the best solutions around several players leaving the club but categorically denied that Emile Smith Rowe, could be heading for the exit door.

Don't believe anything players say about 'loyalty' during the next few hours. Mitrovic pointedly said he wasn't about the money, couldn't put a price on having family settled and going to training with a smile on his face etc. Palhinha repeatedly slaps the Fulham badge with venom. All counts for diddly-squat when the big boys / big bucks come calling.

    One from the Championship...

Blackburn Rovers have signed Semir Telalovic from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old German forward has agreed a three-year deal at Ewood Park, with the option of an additional 12 months.

While relatively unproven in the German top flight, he scored close to a goal every other game for Monchengladbach's second string.

Charlie: A new way of doing the transfer window: Teams do their business entirely in private and one day before the first game of the season, a magnificent squad unveiling ceremony takes place, where players appear out the tunnel one by one to epic pyrotechnics.

An interesting idea, although I have some doubts about the technical details...

We asked who would make your deadline day wish list.

Here are some of your thoughts:

James: Competition up front for Solanke is vital so a striker would certainly be on my wish list. Otherwise, with the signings we’ve already made to complement the existing squad, I think we’re fairly strong.

Clive: Another left-back is required and another energetic forward.

David: We desperately need a goal-scoring centre forwar. Don’t know who he is but for goodness sake find one NOW please.

Barney: We need to buy a winger with pace like Summerville from Leeds and a striker who is capable of scoring goals. Nicolas Jackson would’ve been perfect.

Bob: We need a striker, that is obvious, and as it seems unlikely he is going to get many starts at Newcastle, let's push the boat out and get Callum Wilson back where he belongs.

Those in favour of selling Salah are blind to the fact that he is genuinely irreplaceable. Which other winger in the world is going to score 25+ goals every season?
