Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has been speaking on Sky Sports about Mohamed Salah. Liverpool earlier rejected a £150m bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad for the forward.

"He's one of the best players in the world. It's a hard one. He's 31, £150 million. If you sell him for £150 million then what can you buy for that? They're not going to be better than Salah. At the same time, are they going to win the league this season? I don't think so.

"Do you take the money and try and rebuild and win the Premier League in the next four years. I'm a massive fan of Salah, he scores goals for fun."

Get Involved - Fati the perfect fit for Brighton?published at 14:15 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

RE Anon 13:43. The reason Barca have loaned Fati is because they need his wages off the bill for the year to be able to get Cancelo in on loan. Barca have no money at all, but do have a decent amount of other young attackers (new wonderkid Lamine Yamal). This way they get his wages off and Fati gets experience elsewhere for another year.

    Will

I think Ansu Fati is the perfect player for Brighton and once the loan deal finishes they need to sign him permanently. He fits their system perfectly because he is young and determined to succeed.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, speaking in his pre-match news conference before Saturday’s match against Brentford on the future of defender Lloyd Kelly: "He is very valuable as a centre-back or a left-back and we want him to be part of the team. Sometimes they are situations you cannot control and every party has to be happy for something to happen."

    Crystal Palace

    Your viewsImage source, .

We asked who would make your deadline day wish list.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Gavin: Despite Mateta's hat-trick against Plymouth, we need a reliable and consistent goalscorer, a right-back and cover for left-back. That said, if we lose anyone with such little time left, we could be in big trouble with still such a small Premier League squad. Henderson as keeper is definitely a good acquisition and Lerma has looked good.

Yosser: A striker who can score at this level and a full-back.

Evan: Hugo Ekitike. A great finisher and would be amazing. He would finish those chances every game and would score at least get 10 goals a season. He would work great with Olise and Eze.

Rich: Eze on a new long-term contract, Iheanacho - and maybe a loan punt on a little chap called Messi while on his off-season.

Clive: Mateta sold, and Iheanacho in. Edouard contract extension, and give Eze a new contract with higher wages. Finally, bring in a winger on loan to ease pressure on Franca. Obviously I would love a statement signing, but it doesn't seem as though we have the funds for that. If we did I would try to get Wan-Bissaka, as I believe we need a right-back.

Get Involved - time to give Nunez a chance?published at 14:02 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

#bbcfootball, text 81111 (UK only - standard rates apply) or WhatsApp 03301231826

Liverpool should announce Ryan Gravenberch asap, then get Piero Hincapie, Perr Shuurs, Jarrod Bowen & Johan Bakayoko locked down today with the majority of the Salah sale money. They can send the surplus to me for the advice.

    Richie, in the North West

Stevie: Madness for Liverpool not to take the £150m for Salah. He's 32 next summer, they've got a young goal machine in Nunez who would come into his own if they sold him!

Thomas: Surely £150 million is too good to turn down for Salah. That is a huge number that could lead to a total transformation of this Liverpool team. However, it wouldn’t be good for football, the first current world class player to leave for Saudi. Big statement.

Great resolve from Liverpool, not cowering to the supposed 'might' of Saudi money. You can't buy loyalty my friend, but appreciate next summer will be a different conversation. By then it will simply have been fantatsic business for Liverpool all round.

    Joe

We should sell Salah, he isn't the same and the money is better invested on our midfield, and possibly right back.Sign a right back and play trent defensive midfield. Sell Salah.

I really do not understand the Ansu Fati deal. For Brighton it is wonderful but after Barcelona just lost Dembele to PSG, why are they letting someone who played 36 league games for them last season leave on loan? It's not like player is forcing a move to get more game time as he played most games last year and it's not even like they're selling for a big fee as it's just loan - what positive is this transfer from a Barcelona (or Ansu Fati) perspective?

More from Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag:

On Arsenal: "This is one of the biggest games in the Premier League and we are really looking forward, these are always interesting games, intense games, two teams who really play offensive football. The audience is always the big winner so always looking forward to it."

On the Champions League draw: "We need the depth to go in four competitions. Our players, most of them are international players so they are all over the world, so we have to cover and be prepared for that situation where we can put a team on the pitch."

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Arsenal on Sunday:

On Rasmus Hojlund: "We had a good training week and tomorrow we have the final training. He [Hojlund] is doing well so he will be available. I think for every player there is a big spotlight. At United you have to perform, every position, every player."

On Sofyan Amrabat: "I can’t tell because I don’t know if he has signed. I think we have done good business, we constructed a strong squad and we are ready for the fight."

On Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay: "Yes you see the schedule really condensed, last season the World Cup, the season takes longer, we played the FA Cup final one week then we take a short break, so we need numbers but also quality and I think with this squad we have depth and quality players. We have a variety of systems."

It is not often clubs are beaten to announcing signings by their manager - but that happened today.

Sergio Reguilon's loan deal from Tottenham is still to be confirmed by United.

Just a reminder that Manchester United agreed a loan deal for Tottenham full-back Sergio Reguilon on Thursday.

United were searching for a left-back, with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out for an extended period of time because of injury leaving 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez only recognised left-back at the club, although Diogo Dalot has previously covered that position.

Talks with Chelsea over Marc Cucurella failed to reach a positive conclusion but conversations over Spain's Reguilon have been more fruitful.

  19. Reguilon & Bayındır available for the weekend says Ten Hagpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed new signings Sergio Reguilon and Altay Bayındır will both be available for Sunday’s trip to Arsenal.

Reguilon’s loan from Spurs is yet to be confirmed publicly but Ten Hag said the defender trained with United this morning and is available.

In addition, £72m striker Rasmus Hojlund could make his debut at the Emirates Stadium after coming through a full week’s training.

Ten Hag refused to speak about United’s attempt to sign Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat but he did confirm Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay would remain at United.

The Dutchman say he is happy with his squad.

“I think we have done good business,” he said. “We constructed a strong squad and we are ready for the fight.”
