  1. Man City's Under-21 connectionpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

I mentioned Sam Tickle and the England Under-21 squad.

An incredible 10 members of Lee Carsley's squad are either at Manchester City, on loan from them or, in the cases of James Trafford, Cole Palmer, Sam Edozie and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, started their careers there.

Palmer, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Tommy Doyle have moved clubs today.

City's youth set-up is now paying rich dividends.

We asked who would make your deadline day wish list.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Mike: A top-class right-sided midfielder. Almiron always gives his all, and had a great spell last season - but if we're honest with ourselves, we'll acknowledge he generally lacks the consistency and that extra quality that is needed at the highest level.

Richard: I think we need one more central defender and striker. Harry Maguire would be a good addition.

Andrew: It all depends on Botman’s injury. He’s proving himself to be one of the best defenders in the league. If he’s going to be injured for numerous weeks, then I’d want us to sign a world-class defender. Lascelles cannot cover well enough!

John: A quality right-sided attacker and a quality right-footed centre-half. If we had the budget I'd also get a replacement for Bruno, unless he agrees to sign his contract.

As a Liverpool fan I'm very pleased with our midfield transfer business this window and our attacking business last year but teams comprise defenders as well so I'd like us to get a right-back and a centre-back.

    Alan

Yes Liverpool are a great team going forward, they have so many attacking options. Their midfield is looking strong, especially with the addition of Gravenberch. But title challengers? - I'm not sure unless they sign a decent centre-back and resolve the problems they're continually facing with Trent at right-back.

  5. Amrabat keen on move to Manchester Unitedpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Manchester United are in still discussions with Fiorentina over Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

United have been trying to construct a deal the Serie A side accept and Amrabat is keen to make the move.

However, so far, the two sides have not been able to reach agreement.

Meanwhile, United are moving towards the completion of their loan of Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham.

Despite a huge amount of speculation, it is expected both Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay will remain at Old Trafford beyond this evening’s deadline.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Mark: Sign a striker who can get us 20 goals a season and a midfielder.

Julian: A marauding left-back seems to be the missing link, as well as maybe an experienced central midfielder.

Joe: Maatsen is a must. We looked clueless on how to defend our left side against Aston Villa.

  7. West Brom standing firmpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

My colleague Alex Howell reported earlier about interest in West Brom striker Brandon Thomas-Asante.

The Baggies finances have been the subject of intense debate amongst supporters, leading to fears of a fire sale.

But that is not the word coming out of The Hawthorns, with sources adamant that whilst sales could happen, the club will not accept below market value for any player.

They are also looking to sign a right-sided wing-back.

  8. 'It wasn’t necessary the stance Matheus took'published at 11:08 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Wolves

Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs says he was "disappointed with how it ended" after Matheus Nunes' move to Manchester City.

Nunes was fined after missing training in an effort to force a deal through before his £53m move to the reigning Premier League and Champions League champions was confirmed earlier today.

"It wasn’t necessary the stance Matheus took, but we ended with a good resolution for everyone," said Hobbs.

"Matheus is a hugely talented player but would admit that last season he didn’t hit the heights he expected, but it was a tough season for the team, so maybe he wasn’t allowed to do that.

“We’ve lost a player with a lot of potential, a lot of ability, but the situation has led to us bringing a greater number of players in to improve the squad and provide competition in the group.

"The players here want competition in training, so while we’ve lost a good player, it’s made us a more competitive and better squad overall.”

Liverpool fans, do you want to see more business done?

As a Liverpool supporter, we got midfield, attack and goalkeeper sorted for this season, now we need a right-back and a centre-back. We must have £50m left to spend.

  10. 'Outcome is clear' - Bayern boss Tuchel expects Gravenberch to join Liverpoolpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Liverpool

Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan GravenberchImage source, Getty Images

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel expects Ryan Gravenberch to join Liverpool and said: "Gravenberch is a box-to-box midfielder for me, an attacking player.

"The main problem for him is we don't really play with a number eight in our 4-2-3-1 system. And we're spoilt for choice up front, with really experienced players.

"Ryan is a very nice, hard-working, committed player. He wasn't happy with his situation. He sees the chance in Liverpool to fight for a place at number eight in a 4-3-3.

"He's wanted to go for a while. An offer came in and we discussed it. It's not done yet, but the outcome is clear."

We asked who would make your deadline day wish list.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Daire: Any right-winger who can cross the ball. Ever since Anthony Gordon left the club we haven't filled that gap at all and I could see us really struggling in that position.

Zach: Getting rid of the dead weight - Keane, Gbamin and Gomes to name a few. Bring in a solid quick centre-back to challenge Tarkowski and Branthwaite. Possibly a left-back - Young and Mykolenko seem a bit of a liability so far. Not saying our attack is where I'd like it to be, but I think there's enough to allow us time to stabilise this season.

Stephen: A playmaker in midfield like Gallagher of Chelsea - that would be fantastic. If he was the only signing he would be worth it.

Benji: Is Lucas Digne happy at Aston Villa? Do you think he'd fancy coming back? We could really do with his crossing ability now that we have what looks like a somewhat reliable big man through the middle.

  12. Gbamin looking for way out of Evertonpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Shamoon Hafez
    BBC Sport

Jean-Philippe Gbamin has had a miserable time since joining Everton from Mainz for £25m in 2019, with his spell at the club wrecked by lengthy injuries and being described as a "nightmare".

The 27-year-old has played only eight games, including six in the Premier League, and spent last season on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor.

Gbamin has not returned to Everton since and his agent has told me this morning there has been "no contact from any club" about signing him.

Everton have put a £5m pricetag on him, but the midfielder is "hoping to find a solution to end his contract" on Merseyside.

    BBC Sport

On deadline day six months ago, Australia international Harry Soutter was negotiating a move from Stoke to Leicester.

Following the Foxes relegation and change of manager, Soutter now appears surplus to requirements at the King Power.

It will be interesting to see if anyone comes in for Soutter.

Rangers had been mentioned but their failure to reach the Champions League group stages appears to rule that out.

More from Eddie Howe on Newcastle's Champions League draw, which sees them up against Paris St-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

Howe said his side's tough Champions League draw is a "great thing".

"When the dust settles, you look at it with pure excitement.

"There's no negativity from any of us. It's hard, it's challenging but some great European games for us to experience."

Nathan: Get Gonzales, Bueno and Doyle over the line and then maybe a loan deal for Araujo from Benfica and Iheancho in from Leicester. Then we’ll be cooking!

Natalie: We need money to bring in a striker or a goal poacher. I think that Gary O’Neil is perfect for us. Fabio Silva seems to want it more than he did. I would try a sign Kelechi Iheanacho.

George: Ideally a strong midfielder - like a Fofana.

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Interesting morning at Everton where they have agreed a deal with Fulham for Alex Iwobi and promising young striker Tom Cannon looks to be on his way to Leicester City.

Manager Sean Dyche may try to use the cash to bring in a wide man, with Southampton's Kamaldeen Sulemana, a previous transfer target for Everton, linked with a deadline day move to Goodison Park.

Will they make another move for long-term target Willy Gnonto at Leeds United? Every chance they will make one last call but why would Leeds change their long-term stance of "not for sale" after weeks of blocking a succession of Everton offers?

Liverpool signing Gravenberch puts them in the equation for the title in my opinion. If you look at their team on paper, they have the best attack in the league, a robust midfield with Gravenberch, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister, and some of the best defenders in the world in Virgil van Dijk, Konate, etc.

  20. Wigan youngster Tickle in amazing England risepublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

That England Under-21 squad published early on here included the name of Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle.

What it didn't say was Tickle only made his senior debut in May and has made just six league appearances for the Latics, who he joined in 2012, when he was only 10.

Wigan boss Shaun Maloney decided to make Tickle his number one keeper this season despite his rookie status and the move has already paid handsome dividends.
