    Alex Howell
    Football reporter

The signing of Cole Palmer is likely to be Chelsea's last incoming of this window.

Focus will now move to whether Trevoh Chalobah moves to Bayern Munich or some of the interest in Conor Gallagher turns into a formal bid for the England midfielder. But as we know on deadline day, never say never.

  3. Saudi Pro League 'more of a threat than not' - Klopppublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sunday, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp finished his pre-Villa news conference by summing up the threat he feels is posed by the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool lost midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi clubs during this transfer window, while Al-Ittihad have been linked with a possible big money move for Mohamed Salah.

The Reds boss said he felt the Saudi Pro League "feels rather like a threat or a concern than not".

He added: "I can't really see how we can deny it in these specific moments. What can we do? Say no? We can do that, but there is a difference between the contracts here and the contracts there. They are that big, it causes problems, definitely, 100%."

We asked who would make your deadline day wish list.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Luke: The obvious statement would be to get Hudson-Odoi over the line, as well as the keeper we're linked with and a top central midfielder like Sangare. We need to also be prudent and do the right business with outgoings too. If we can get some money back for players like Shelvey and Dennis that would be just as important for the club for FFP reasons.

Chris: Keep Johnson. He's young and class. Defenders hate pace. Will cost more to replace him so we could end up with two average players.

Jamie: We seem to have a good precision about transfer dealings this year. I’m all for more of that. Incoming: it would be great to have Sangare, but with PSV still in the Champions League, that might be a big ask. Outgoing: Shelvey to move on for everyone’s sake. It’d be nice to get fringe players away so they can play and we can move on.

Greg: I’d hate to see Johnson leave. He's he’s a top-class player and we really struggle without him.

  5. 'A club I've admired for a long time'published at 10:33 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Manchester City

Let's get some quick quotes from Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes, who has just joined Manchester City in a £53m deal from Wolves.

The Portugal international made 41 appearances for Wolves and began his professional career with Estoril before signing for Sporting Lisbon in January 2019, playing 101 times for them.

Nunes will wear the number 27 shirt, has 11 national team caps to his name and featured in their 2022 World Cup campaign.

He said: “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the champions of Europe and a club I’ve admired for a long time.

“The opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest managers ever, and alongside some of the best players in the world was something I simply couldn’t turn down.

“I learned so much during my season at Wolves and I’m excited to continue improving in the Premier League, a division which brings the best out of me. I’m really excited to get going, meet the fans and hopefully be a part of plenty more success at City.”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has been speaking in his pre-match news conference before they face Brighton on Saturday.

  9. Collina defends injury-time expansionpublished at 10:27 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

It might be deadline day across Europe but there is still time for a Fifa-Uefa political spat.

Earlier this week, Uefa said they were going to ignore the directive to play additional injury-time.

Fifa's head of refereeing Pierluigi Collina, whose idea the new approach to injury time was, is not taking that without a response.

"I would like to commend the referees, as they have correctly enforced what was recommended, including in Uefa competitions," he said.

"In fact, it is interesting to notice that in the play-off matches recently played, the average additional time given was 10 minutes in the Champions League, 9’12” in the Europa League and 10’08” in the Conference League. This is completely in line with what we have seen around the world.

" I understand that any reforms to the Laws of the Game, or simply their interpretation as is the case, may be viewed with scepticism by some but, as was the case with the introduction of VAR, when the measures are in defence of football, they end up being accepted."

We asked who would make your deadline day wish list.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Ernest: I would like to be confident that Arsenal have a trusted and reliable goalscorer. This being the case, I would love to see either Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen.

Daniel: We need defenders! Can't afford to loose both Tierney and Timber before the season properly starts. I'd even take Maguire as a back-up at the moment.

James: My dream Arsenal deadline day... would be sell Rob Holding and Cedric Soares, buy Ollie Watkins and Kyle Walker-Peters.

Andrew: Lautaro Martinez from Inter would be nice, At say £90m? If only.

Dennis: We need a striker, an inverted right-back and someone to help deputise for Saka as he cannot play every game.

Cole Palmer is a great addition to the Chelsea squad, these young exciting talents are joining because there is clearly a very exciting project going on at Chelsea. I do find it amusing why people are "baffled" and "confused".

    Max

Utterly bamboozled by Palmer to Chelsea. Firstly, not sure why Man City let him go, given his start to the season. Secondly, why he would go to Chelsea, who seem to buy anything that moves at the moment with no clear strategy or plan! How do they fit all these players in, and will Palmer get anymore game time there?

Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan GravenberchImage source, Getty Images

European football expert Rafa Honigstein, speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Euro Leagues podcast, about Liverpool's potential move for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch: "I think it's a great move for Liverpool because they were in for Gravenberch the season before, but he went to Bayern. I think he will be a better fit for the Liverpool system with three midfielders.

"He comes into his own in the opposition half, he likes to dribble a bit. He needed to make that move because Thomas Tuchel made it clear that he did not see much of a future for Gravenberch."

  16. 'I love this team'published at 10:12 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sunday, 14:00 BST)

    Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp on the business Liverpool have done in the transfer window.

"We pretty much had to reinvent the team," he said. "The midfield is now already or will be completely new. Over the last few years we have had to do the same with our front line.

"We had to do this in a year we didn't qualify for the Champions League, which has a massive impact. I really think we did good business.

"The players we brought in are really good and will help the team. So I really like the team.

"When I look at it before we start a game and you look at the line-up - yes the options on the bench are a little bit young but that's great. So yes, we got younger, but we had to. We are less experienced, but that is normal, but we are full of desire. I love this team."

Wolves sign midfielder Tommy Doyle on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

The 21-year-old, whose move contains an option to become permanent next summer, joins Wolves on the back of a successful season with Sheffield United, who he helped to promotion to the Premier League in May.

Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “I’ve talked about players coming here with the hunger to kick on again, and Tommy is another one of those. He’ll give us something different – he’s a good age profile, a good character profile, but most importantly a good footballer. He ticks a lot of boxes for us.

“He went to Championship and forced his way into the team, and showed he was beyond that. The next challenge is to prove he can do it every week in the Premier League and we’re here to help him, [manager] Gary [O'Neil] is here to develop him as a Premier League midfielder like he was, so I think we’re a perfect place for Tommy to show what he’s capable of."

Given he has started all three Premier League games so far, England and Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher would seem to be a solid part of Mauricio Pochettino's squad.

    Apparently not.

Gallagher has been attracting interest from elsewhere in the Premier League and I have been told he could move before tonight's deadline.
