  1. Big day for Brightonpublished at 08:25 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

What a day for Brighton supporters.

Not only are they probably going to announce the loan signing of Barcelona's Ansu Fati, they will, for the first time, be in a European draw.

Last night's play-off results mean they will be in Pot Three for the Europa League draw, which is handy for Uefa as it means they cannot get Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, who are also owned by Tony Bloom.

Also, they cannot get West Ham and Liverpool, who are in Pot One.

They could get Jose Mourinho's (and Romelu Lukaku's) Roma though, or Ajax, Villarreal, Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta or Rangers.

What a time to be a Brighton fan.

  2. Leicester could be set for 'frantic day'published at 08:21 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Leicester City

BBC Radio Leicester's Foxes commentator Owynn Palmer-Atkin:

This could well be a bit of a frantic day for Leicester City - but fans expecting loads of signings to walk through the door are probably going to be disappointed.

Leicester have had one of the most successful transfer windows of the past few years, with seven players already through the door in Mads Hermansen, Conor Coady, Harry Winks, Callum Doyle, Cesare Casadei, Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu.

Our understanding is that the Foxes are in the market for an attacking midfielder, but today will perhaps be more focused on outgoings.

Patson Daka, Bouba Soumare, Harry Souttar and goalkeepers Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward have not featured so far this season, and could all be heading towards the exit doors as the club look to trim their squad - and the wage bill - before the deadline at 23:00 BST.

  3. Gallagher to Spurs?published at 08:18 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    BBC Radio 5 Live

The Athletic's David Ornstein, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Conor Gallagher’s future: "There have been heavy suggestions Tottenham are going to make a late move for him but Mauricio Pochettino seems to like him.

"He has got a bit of an Argentine profile about him with his intensity - the dogged running and harrying.

"He has been playing a lot for Chelsea and captained them in the EFL Cup, it is one we should be keeping our eye on."

  5. Chalobah an option for Bayern?published at 08:10 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Alex Howell
    Football reporter

Bayern Munich are interested in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. It would mean the centre back would reunite with his old Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel if a deal was to be done. Talks have been held between the two clubs but nothing is agreed yet.

  6. When does the transfer window close?published at 08:07 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

The transfer window will close at 23:00 BST on Friday, 1 September for the Premier League and EFL, while in Scotland, the window will shut at midnight.

Across Europe, the Bundesliga window will close at 17:00, Serie A at 19:00, Ligue 1 at 22:00 and La Liga at 23:00 but the Women's Super League transfer window remains open until 14 September.

The transfer window for the Saudi Pro League, to where a number of high-profile Premier League players have moved this summer, is set to close on 7 September.

  7. 'One of the most exciting prospects'published at 08:03 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    BBC Radio 5 Live

The Athletic's David Ornstein, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Ansu Fati’s move to Brighton from Barcelona on a season-long loan: “He was hailed as the next Lionel Messi or Neymar but he has fallen out of favour with Xavi at Barcelona.

"He has been seen as someone who can leave in order to register other players, as such their financial predicament. Tottenham considered him too but decided to go for a different profile and Chelsea are looking at Cole Palmer.

"Out of nowhere Brighton have stepped forward and they have got this deal done with a straight loan and no option to buy. Barcelona will cover the vast majority of his salary and Brighton will get one of the most exciting prospects and players in world football."

  8. Birmingham sign defender Aiwu from Cremonesepublished at 07:59 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

Birmingham City have signed defender Emanuel Aiwu on loan from Italian club Cremonese for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old Austrian is the 11th summer signing by City, who have taken 10 points from their first four Championship games of the new season.

Aiwu made 23 appearances for Cremonese in Serie A in 2022-23, but they were relegated after finishing 19th. He began his career with St Polten and Admira Wacker and also had a spell with Rapid Vienna before moving to Italy.

  11. Mbappe Real rumourspublished at 07:45 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

There are rumours out of Spain about a potential Real Madrid bid for Kylian Mbappe.

After all the rancour of earlier in the summer, when PSG effectively kicked Mbappe out of their squad, it has all gone quiet, with the France striker back in the fold - but still to sign the contract extension demanded.

Sources at PSG don't seem to be too concerned about Mbappe's future at the moment and I am not getting the sense anything will happen today.

But this has been such a fluid story that until 11pm tonight - when the Spanish window closes - nothing can be taken for granted.

  13. Will Liverpool’s stance change on Salah?published at 07:36 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    BBC Radio 5 Live

The Athletic's David Ornstein, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on Mo Salah's situation: "Liverpool’s stance is clear that Mo Salah is not for sale and he is going nowhere. But you just never know in this industry and Al-Ittihad are going to keep trying, whether it is beyond this deadline and before their own deadline.

"The big question will be will Liverpool’s stance change? If this offer comes in, which it hasn’t yet and is enticing enough. Will Mo Salah push to go as well?

"Until this point Liverpool have been clear - no offer and nothing to consider with Jurgen Klopp saying he is going nowhere."

  14. Salah to Saudi?published at 07:32 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    i Newspaper

Staying with Saudi Arabia, the Sport section of the I newspaper says Al-Ittihad are prepared to make a £150m offer to grab Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

The transfer window in Saudi Arabia doesn't close until next Thursday so it's going to be an anxious week for Reds fans.

  19. What transfer deals could still happen?published at 07:05 British Summer Time 1 September 2023

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

The caveat here is that not all transfer windows - including Saudi Arabia and Turkey - close on Friday, which means deals can still be done into next month.

Clearly, if it happened, Mohamed Salah moving to Saudi Arabia would be the biggest deal of all, both financially and because of what it would mean for his current club Liverpool.

In stardust terms, if Brighton can get Ansu Fati over the line, it would represent a stunning coup for the progressive south coast club - even if some argue that if the Spain star is as good as it is being made out, why are Barcelona letting him go?

Barcelona should be able to bring in Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, while the two big Premier League clubs to really look out for are Manchester United and Tottenham.

United need a left-back and boss Erik ten Hag also wants a midfielder. For the latter position, Sofyan Amrabat has been a main target but so far, they have not been able to get Fiorentina to agree a loan. For the former, Marc Cucurella had been spoken about but Sergio Reguilon now looks likely to move from Spurs.

Harry Maguire looked certain to leave Old Trafford for so much of the summer but given they would need a replacement centre-back, and Raphael Varane is injured, it is unlikely he will go now.

As for Tottenham, Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Hugo Lloris, Japhet Tanganga and Tanguy Ndombele are all surplus to requirements. The big move for Spurs would be for Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson.
