    Scotland 1-2 England

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Harry Maguire has been put under a lot of pressure by the Scotland fans, getting the ironic cheers every time he touched the ball.

The ball was put in, he stuck out a leg hoping for the best, he didn't try to affect it, he just put out a lazy leg.

England are keeping the ball, without really going anywhere.

The crowd are bored, cheering on something off camera.

  10. 'Sort of test Scotland need to progress'published at 20:56 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Scotland 0-2 England

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden Park

It might not feel like it right now for Scotland fans but this is exactly the type of test Steve Clarke wants for his squad.

If they are to progress further in what has been an impressive evolution under Clarke, this is the quality they need to strive to match.

The same was true of travelling to face Turkey last year in what was dubbed a meaningless friendly.

In that hostile atmosphere they looked like wilting, responded and kicked off on the run they have been on. This is a level up.

  11. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Scotland 0-2 England

The ball breaks to Billy Gilmour at the edge of the box but the little Scotland midfielder is stretching a bit to wrap his foot round it and the shot flies high over the target.

  12. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Scotland 0-2 England

Scotland need the next goal to make a night of this.

John McGinn turns near the penalty box but there's only Che Adams to aim for. He has a pot shot, which cannons off his team-mate and goes out for a goal-kick.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

  14. Eyes on the piespublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    HT: Scotland 0-2 England

    Scott Mullen
    BBC Scotland at Hampden Park

Right. A bounty of pies have been demolished in the press room. A stodgy bit of comfort food for the Scottish press pack. Hopefully the home team will be getting something a bit more nutritional to fuel a second-half comeback.

  15. Could Dykes make a difference?published at 20:46 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    HT: Scotland 0-2 England

    Leanne Crichton
Former Scotland international on BBC Sportsound

This is a Lyndon Dykes type night.

Scotland need a physical presence to get up the pitch. Nothing is sticking.

  16. 'Clarke has to change things'published at 20:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    HT: Scotland 0-2 England

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Scotland are playing a back five and they up against one guy. England have a bunch of players running from midfield and running past them so Steve Clarke has to change that.

  17. 'Scoreline does not flatter England'published at 20:43 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    HT: Scotland 0-2 England

    Graeme Souness
Former Scotland captain on Channel 4

Scotland have not got started, and that's because of how England have played

The scoreline does not flatter England. Scotland aren't threatening - it's one-way traffic, and that takes some doing coming to Hampden.

  19. Kane 'toying' with Scotland defencepublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    HT: Scotland 0-2 England

    Craig Levein
Former Scotland manager on BBC Sportsound

    It's been a lesson.

Scotland haven't been in it at all. McGinn and McTominay have barely touched the ball, so we've had nothing to shout about.

We're playing a very dangerous game. It's a high line against no pressure on the ball and top class strikers. The front three are incredible.

Kane is causing the back three all sorts of bother. He's toying with them.

  20. 'Scotland need more heart'published at 20:39 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    HT: Scotland 0-2 England

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

It's maybe the type of game that Scotland need, but we've been so passive.

Maybe we need to get it stirred up a bit, play with the heart a little more.

Keep it simple, get it forward and hopefully pick up some crumbs.

We've been outplayed as far as football is concerned.
