A Hearts win at Ibrox is a long time coming.

Last time it happened, neither of these sides were even in the top flight. Robbie Neilson was the victorious visiting boss, but who was in the home dugout?

A certain legendary striker around these parts, Alistair Murdoch McCoist. That was back in August 2014.

Hearts' last win of any description over Rangers in the league? 26 January 2020, with a certain Steven Naismith on the scoresheet.

  2. As they standpublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

There's a big carrot dangling for Rangers today.

Celtic's goalless draw at Easter Road yesterday means Philippe Clement's side can narrow the gap to five points with a win.

It would bring to an end a fairly impressive first week for the new Ibrox boss.

Steven Naismith makes three changes to his Hearts starting line-up following last Sunday's heavy defeat to Celtic.

Defender Odeluga Offiah and midfielders Beni Baningime and Jorge Grant are added to the XI.

Cammy Devlin and Alan Forrest drop to the bench, as well as on-loan attacker Alex Lowry who is ineligible against his parent club.

  4. Yilmaz back in Rangers reshufflepublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    Rangers v Hearts (15:00)

Rangers make one personnel change following Thursday's 0-0 draw with Europa League opponents Sparta Prague.

Ridvan Yilmaz, ineligible for European games currently, replaces John Souttar, who drops to the bench.

Manager Philippe Clement appears to have reverted to a 4-3-3 with Yilmaz in at left-back and Connor Goldson and Ben Davies the centre-half pairing.

Midfield substitutes Jose Cifuentes and Kieran Dowell return to the squad following recent injuries.

  7. 'I should've freshened team up more' - Robsonpublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson tells BBC Sportsound: "We looked flat. It's as poor a first half as I've seen from us. We lost a sucker-punch goal. I should've freshened the team up more.

"We were caught between passing it short or passing it behind them. We didn't get going at any point.

"The season is a long season, we've got another game coming up, we've got a semi-final, we're in the group stage of a European competition.

"We need to stay in the fight. A lot of learning has gone on. We need to try and pick up more points in the league."

  8. 'Great to see Vassell & Watkins on scoresheet'published at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-0 Aberdeen

Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes tells BBC Sportsound: "I thought the opening part of the game it was two teams sussing each other out, I just thought we were a wee bit rushed at times.

"I thought our set plays were really good today, so I'm disappointed we did not manage to score off the back of that.

"We scored a very good goal on the stroke of half time and it's great to see both strikers getting on the scoresheet.

"I thought we were the better team in the first half, but you want something to show for that and thankfully we got something on the stroke of half time."

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

I think Barry Robson has got to admit that everything was not alright.

He has got to work harder to find the form to get Aberdeen back on track.

I think fans will be totally demoralised by that performance.

  10. 'Worrying times for Aberdeen'published at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

    FT: Kilmarnock 2-0 Aberdeen

    Martin Dowden
    BBC Scotland at Rugby Park

Back-to-back wins for Kilmarnock is a huge boost in what is a tight Premiership table. They were excellent and dominated the game, creating numerous opportunities while restricting Aberdeen to few.

There was a lot of quality in what Kilmarnock did. The tactics were spot on and the players executed them repeatedly. Extremely encouraging for Derek McInnes overall. They lacked a bit of threat up top last season, but they have it now on this evidence.

Aberdeen are something of a conundrum right now. Nine points from nine league games simply isn’t enough. You’d be hard pressed to make an argument that they deserved anything at Rugby Park.

Worryingly, it wasn’t clear what the strategy was. Whether the players weren’t carrying out instructions, or Kilmarnock just played better, or something else is up for debate.

Aberdeen were quite simply poor. This could easily have been a bigger defeat.

  11. MacLean's last interview as Saints bosspublished at 14:13 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

It's fair to say that he didn't hold back after Saturday's dismal 4-0 defeat at St Mirren.

That loss leaves the Perth side five points adrift at the foot of the Scottish Premiership with no wins.

  12. St Johnstone 'part company' with MacLean & Craigpublished at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

On St Johnstone, let's get back to that breaking news from McDiarmid Park.

A statement says: "St Johnstone can announce that it has parted company with Steven MacLean and Liam Craig.

"In the interim, Alex Cleland will assume responsibilities for first team matters."

  13. Postpublished at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

More grim reading for Dons fans.

Aberdeen have failed to score in five of their nine games, only St Johnstone (seven) have failed to score more often in the Scottish Premiership this season.

  14. What do the stats say?published at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2023

It was a really good performance from Kilmarnock.

They played some nice football, had some good opportunities and could have won by more.
