Tottenham get caught trying to play out from the back.

Hayley Ladd takes advantage and weaves into the area, is challenged, but before she can ask for a penalty for her side, Melvine Malard strikes to add the third goal of the game.

That should be game over and three points for Man Utd.

That goal is Melvine Malard's fifth in the Women's Super League this season, the highest tally of any Manchester United player.

There's no doubt that's her goal!

It's a brilliant finish from Melvine Malard.

Hayley Ladd tries to drive into the penalty box but lays the ball off to Malard instead, who strikes first time and curls past Rebecca Spencer.

United are in full control now.

  4. 'England change a sensible move for the long term'published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

    Tottenham 0-2 Man Utd

    Helen Ward
Former Chelsea and Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

The Bethany England substitution would have been in the works. 60 minute mark for a player coming back from injury is a standard amount of minutes really.

As we said earlier a WSL game is much more intense than a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Of course given the way the game is going they will be disappointed to have to take her off, but it is the sensible decision for the long term.

    Tottenham 0-2 Man Utd

Now it's Manchester United's turn to have a crack at goal.

The ball finds its way to Hayley Ladd on the edge of the area, but she drags her shot wide of the far post.

  6. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Tottenham 0-2 Man Utd

Ooooh! Rosella Ayane nearly makes an immediate impression.

Martha Thomas runs down the left and beats her defender with a nice piece of footwork.

She drills a low ball into Ayane's path but Mary Earps gets to it first.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 56 mins

    Tottenham 0-2 Man Utd

Bethany England doesn't look happy to be going off. She hands the armband to Molly Bartrip.

Jessica Naz is replaced by Rosella Ayane, while Kit Graham takes England's place.

  8. 'United goal unravels Spurs' plan'published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

    Tottenham 0-2 Man Utd

    Helen Ward
Former Chelsea and Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I think the message would have been from the manager to not go all out or all guns blazing too soon, as they would not have wanted to run the risk of conceding too early in this second half.

But that goal has come now, and unravels that plan and it looks like we are going to see some Spurs changes.

  9. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Tottenham 0-2 Man Utd

Jessica Naz is lucky to get away without picking up a booking after dragging Leah Galton to the ground.

Naz is already on a yellow card, so she'll need to be careful.

  10. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Tottenham 0-2 Man Utd

Tottenham have struggled after the break this season.

They've conceded 5 goals in the first 15 minutes of second halves, only Leicester City (6) and Bristol City (7) have conceded more.

  11. 'Could Spencer have come off her line earlier?'published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

I wonder if Rebecca Spencer might have been able to come off her line quicker to be able to narrow the angle more for tooone

Take no credit away from Ella Toone, she took it really well. In those areas and in those moments she is one of those players that can take a chance without much trouble.

That should consolidate Man Utd's position in this game.

    Ella Toone (51 mins)

    United have another!

That came from very little. The ball is launched forwards from defence, Melvine Malard picks it up and dinks it towards Ella Toone, who takes a slight touch to direct it over the head of Rebecca Spencer.

  13. 'Spurs will want England on for as long as possible'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

    Tottenham 0-1 Man Utd

    Helen Ward
Former Chelsea and Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Tottenham will want to keep Bethany England on the pitch for as long as possible while they are chasing the game.

Given this is her first start back it will be interesting to see how long she lasts against this top quality Man Utd side.

  14. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Man Utd

It's a very organised performance by Manchester United so far, if not the most exhilarating.

They're holding their shape, knocking the ball around and keeping possession.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 49 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Man Utd

Jessica Naz receives a booking after tugging Hannah Blundell's shirt.

  16. Postpublished at 48 mins

Was Shelina Zadorsky lucky to get away with that?

She swipes at Jayde Riviere just outside the box but the referee doesn't deem it to be a foul.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Man Utd

No changes made at the start of the second half.

    Tottenham get things started.

This is the penultimate round of fixtures before the Women’s Super League pauses for the winter break.

League action resumes on 21 January for these sides, while there are FA Cup games the weekend before.

Manchester United play rivals Liverpool next Sunday in their final game before the break, while Tottenham face Arsenal in the north London derby.

  19. Postpublished at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

    HT: Tottenham 0-1 Man Utd

Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 15 Women's Super League matches when leading at half-time (W14, D1) dating back to 8th May 2022 against Chelsea (L2-4).

United have also stopped the opposition from scoring a first-half goal in 6 of their 9 games, no team has done this more in league this season.

  20. 'Thomas and England have been a little bit isolated'published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

    HT: Tottenham 0-1 Man Utd

    Helen Ward
Former Chelsea and Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

There were certainly moments for them. I think they just need to be cleaner and offer a bit more support in the higher attacking third of the pitch.

Whoever has got the ball up there at times, whether it is Martha Thomas or Beth England, they have been a little bit isolated and Manchester United have been able to recover.

There still needs to be a little bit more on the ball from them, for me. Defensively they have looked quite sound, so they will be disappointed with that goal.
