There is contact. One thing I would say is Paul Tierney's positioning was absolutely spot on.

It all started from a terrific ball from Chilwell and it worked to Gallagher. Why would you go down when there is a strike on with your left foot?

It's been a bright start from both sides.

VAR is not getting involved so it's definitely not being given. Play has restarted.

Big frown on Big Ange's Big face. Brentford with some real wind-up stuff and a precious half-time lead.

Conor Gallagher goes down in the box and Chelsea scream for a penalty. Referee says no though but Virgil van Dijk does seem to make contact.

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez races onto a long ball down the right from Conor Bradley. It's bouncing and the ball is high and Nunez tries to lob the ball over the Chelsea keeper, but it's saved.

Diogo Jota finds Luis Diaz on the left. I'm not sure what the Liverpool man is trying to do but he just toe pokes the ball out of play.

Chris: As a Spurs fan, Maddison kicking the ball at a player and Kulusevski pushing a player over is really poor. I get you're frustrated but fact is Brentford are playing well.

Anon: RE: Alan at 20:10 The entire Brentford team are doing a fine job winding up the Spurs players. Then again. Norgaard could have had 4 or 5 yellows by now...

Adam@ Spurs losing the psychological battle. They'll end up with red cards for petulance.

  11. Postpublished at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

Liverpool are immediately on the attack. Chelsea hold firm through and Djordje Petrovic has the ball.

  12. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

Two minutes added on at the end of a one-way first half.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 45 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

And it really should be 2-0 now! Who leaves Ivan Toney unmarked at a free-kick? Tottenham, that's who but Toney can only head straight at the Spurs keeper. A big let-off.

  15. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

    Burnley's best chance.

Lyle Foster gets the ball in the box on the left, faints to get a pocket of space, and curls an effort narrowly wide. Better from the visitors.

Football is becoming a farce. Maupay being mocked for a stupid goal celebration by Madison, who has an even more stupid celebration. Whatever happened to the simple handshake?

Neal Maupay of Brentford is challenged by Micky van de VenImage source, Getty Images

Neal Maupay is really pushing everyone. When the ball is dead he is having a little nibble and winding them up.

There is a little bit of that going on.

  18. YELLOW CARDSpublished at 44 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

The 17th little scuffle of the half leads to more bookings, with Neal Maupay and Dejan Kulusevski both going into David Coote's notebook.

You wouldn't rule out reds, you really wouldn't.

  19. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

But for some brilliant defending from Dara O'Shea, City's Julian Alvarez would be celebrating his hat-trick.

Jeremy Doku, as he so often has tonight, gets in behind on the left. He plays a pacey pass across goal which is begging for an Alvarez tap-in, but defender O'Shea slides back to intercept. Burnley are hanging on a bit.

That Brentford back five has been excellent so far and Spurs haven't been able to cause them any real problems.
