    Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

Could be 2-0 to Brentford now! So open this game as Keane Lewis-Potter arrives at the far post, unmarked, but shanks his volley into the turf and away.

It's not ending 1-0, put it that way.

This game is nearly won for Man City now.

Pep will be looking to get his subs on soon, which will be a relief for Burnley, especially if City swap strikers.

  3. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

Manchester City are two points off leaders Liverpool as things stand.

They're starting to flex and play some super stuff, breaking through Matheus Nunes but he can't make that final pass click.

That must have been so close. He sets it beautifully and we think it is going to nestle in that top corner.

It just goes two or three inches wide of the post.

  5. CLOSE!published at 25 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

How close is that?! Richarlison hits a lovely curling shot from about 25 yards that skims the post and hits the stanchion behind the goal. Half the crowd think it's in, in fact.

    Spurs inches away.

Ross: Timo Werner missing an open goal. Never change Timo.

Nicholas: Werner can't score from good chances? When was somebody going to tell us Spurs fans?

    Julian Alvarez (23 mins)

    Haaland who?

Julian Alvarez has his second but this is far too easy from Burnley.

Hjalmar Ekdal concedes a free-kick, gets a yellow, and then City take things quickly as Kevin De Brunye finds the unmarked Alvarez in the area who slots the ball home.

  10. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Man City 1-0 Burnley

    City can smell a second.

Jeremy Doku is looking very sharp at the moment, James Trafford looks jittery.

The wing-back skips past his man down the left and fires in a low cross which goes through the hands of the diving Trafford, which, fortunately for Burnley, lands safe.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 21 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

This is really fun to watch! Spurs come down the left now with Rodrigo Bentancur gliding past tackles and finding Timo Werner, his shot is scuffed but in the corner and Mark Flekken gets down well to save.

Werner then duffs a header at the far post from the corner. The chanceskeep coming!

  12. Simple but superbpublished at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Man City 1-0 Burnley

    Simon Stone

Matheus Nunes seemed covered by Dara O'Shea, who had blocked his initial cross.

But the Portuguese international only needed the smallest amount of space to drop the ball right into the centre of the six-yard area.

Julian Alvarez read the intention, moved into the space and finished.

That goal seems so easy. But it needed skill and anticipation.

  14. Postpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Man City 1-0 Burnley

Julian Alvarez, 24, is the first player to score a Premier League goal for Man City on his birthday since Gabriel Jesus in a 2-0 away victory at Leicester City on 3 April 2021. It was also Jesus' 24th birthday that day.

  15. 'Fantastic run from Nunes'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Man City 1-0 Burnley

A fantastic run from Matheus Nunes and the little ball to Julian Alvarez is brilliant.

Alvarez does what he is expected to do!

  16. 'Brentford suck it up and hit them on the counter'published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

Neal Maupay scores the openerImage source, Getty Images

It's exactly what Brentford have been working on in the training ground all week. Toney was way onside when the ball came to him. You think he is going to score actually.

It's tight but I think he his just onside. It is a good save and Maupay follows up and it's real good fortune. But they are the tactics that Thomas Frank wanted to do. You suck it up and then you hit them on the counter.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17 mins

    Tottenham 0-1 Brentford

Straight from kick-off Brentford are in on goal again after winning the ball but Spurs recover. It's breathless stuff as Christian Norgaard is then booked for bringing down Oliver Skipp.

    Julian Alvarez (17 mins)

    On his birthday!

It's excellent play from Matheus Nunes who sprints down the right, holds the ball up, and dinks in a superb cross for Julian Alvarez who nods City in front.

  19. goal

    Neal Maupay (15 mins)

Spurs didn't learn! Moments after that offside goal Spurs lose the ball on halfway and Ivan Toney is played in on goal.

The England man waits, waits, fires in a shot which Guglielmo Vicario does well to save but Neal Maupay follows up to bundle the loose ball over the line.

High risk, high reward but that was too easy for the visitors...

  20. Kompany's encouragementpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is encouraging his team from the edge of his technical area.

His hands remain in his pockets apart from when he wants to point something out or applaud someone for a job well done.

He has just offered James Trafford a nod of approval for the way he moved the ball to set up a Burnley counter, which, evidently, how the visitors are going to play this.
