They have just played Vincent Kompany's farewell chat to Manchester City on the big screen.

It is impossible to underplay what a huge contribution Kompany made to the club.

He arrived before Sheikh Mansour and became a leader in every sense.

No-one who was there will ever forget his thunderbolt against Leicester in 2019 that propelled City towards the Premier League title.

No matter what he goes to do in his management career, he will always be welcome here.

Pep Guardiola says Kyle Walker will 'absolutely' remain as Man City captain

Kyle Walker is on the bench tonight. Earlier this week Pep Guardiola confirmed he will remain Manchester City captain following reports about his private life.

The England defender apologised to his family on Monday after having an extra-marital affair.

The 33-year-old was voted captain by his team-mates after Ilkay Gundogan joined Barcelona in the summer.

Asked if Walker would stay in the role, Guardiola said: "Absolutely, because it's a decision for the team, not mine."

Walker is on the bench tonight.

    • Burnley's only win in the 31 most recent meetings in all competitions came in the Premier League at Turf Moor in March 2015 when George Boyd scored the winner.
    • Manchester City are on a run of nine consecutive home victories against Burnley and are unbeaten in 17 since a 1-0 loss at Maine Road in the 1973 Charity Shield.
    • Burnley haven't scored a goal in eight games versus City since Robbie Brady's 89th-minute strike in a 4-1 Premier League defeat at Turf Moor in December 2019.

I still fancy and hope Liverpool win the league, but I think Manchester City are favourites with the strength in depth they have.

If Liverpool have injuries you do worry about them, but it is going to be an interesting run in.

Interesting how people still go on about Man City and money when they are only 6th in Net spend. Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea, Spurs & Newcastle are all above in that table. Liverpool are 9th by the way.

Chelsea's form is picking up. They are chasing a fourth consecutive league win for the first time since October 2022.

Good omen - they have won 18 Premier League games against teams starting the day top of the table, more than any other side in the competition's history.

This is a prequel to the Carabao Cup final, with these sides due to meet at Wembley on 25 February.

That game has been moved to 15:00 GMT (from 16:30) on police advice because it has been deemed a "high-risk" fixture.

It is the earliest kick-off time for a League Cup final since 2014.

The midfielder was left out of the 5-2 FA Cup win against Norwich because of injury, but is back as one of four changes.

Who are the players we should say goodbye to next?

Bryan Gil is a good candidate. He is nimble but I do not think he is up to the physical demand that is needed of him right now. He has also not had enough of an impact coming off the bench.

Ryan Sessegnon could be another player to consider given Destiny Udogie has made that left-hand side his own and we have Ben Davies and Emerson Royal as cover.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg certainly divides the fanbase, but he does not have a huge amount of time left on his contract so we could look to sell him - if not in this window, then the next one.

  14. Sutton's predictionpublished at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Liverpool v Chelsea (20:15 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
    BBC football expert

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

I am at Anfield for BBC Radio 5 Live for this one and it is a massive game for Liverpool.

This is a dress rehearsal for the Carabao Cup final and it is a dangerous game for the Reds after Jurgen Klopp's announcement that he is leaving at the end of the season.

Chelsea have won their past three Premier League games, so they are slowly getting there and finding some consistency.

There have been some great games between these two teams down the years and I am not totally sure who will come out on top in this one.

Given Chelsea's position in the table, they don't have as much riding on this and, if you ask their fans, they would probably rather win the cup final than this game.

You still don't know what you are going to get from Mauricio Pochettino's team, good or bad. If it clicks, they can cause Liverpool a few problems - but I am still going to go with a home win, although it will be very close.

    Liverpool v Chelsea (20:15 GMT)

    Conor Coady
Former England and current Leicester City defender on The Monday Night Club

Jurgen Klopp brought a philosophy of gegen-pressing and changed Liverpool's way of being. I think Liverpool have become that philosophy. It's not just the manager's philosophy anymore, it has become the club's philosophy.

It is going to be interesting to see how they move forward. Do they bring in a manager who fits that philosophy, who fits the strategy of getting after teams? Do they keep that way of playing?

It's whether they go rebuilding. That to me takes time and it's going to be interesting to see if they have the time to do it.

Following the news that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, manager Jurgen Klopp told the media "there is nothing to worry about" regarding the future of the club and players.

He said: "Write what you want, this club is stable.

"The boys love this place. I know that for a fact. It's not that they have one foot out."

  17. Chelsea will be a 'test' for Liverpoolpublished at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January

    Liverpool v Chelsea (20:15 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is going to be an interesting game as Jurgen Klopp has announced he is leaving and there was a lot of emotion at the weekend against Norwich City.

This evening is a test against an improving Chelsea team under Mauricio Pochettino, but they need to have the correct mindset the Liverpool players. They have a tough test this evening then they go to Arsenal on Sunday.

I think in truth Chelsea have been underwhelming we all expected the progress to come a lot quicker than it has done, but they are a slow burner and they are improving.

It is just about progressing now for Chelsea and upsetting Liverpool this evening.
